Kurara should have won. Just... she just deserved the crown more than Zuleyka did. If Kurara had won then, and Riyo gained the title like she did, Japan would have been the first country to have a back-to-back victory, not Venezuela. But ah well, c'est la vie. Kurara, in my opinion, was the best delegate of 2006, one that should've been a Miss Universe.

I vividly remember watching her on TV at Miss Universe. The love for Kurara was so massive, someone made a forum board for her! I used to volunteer there as a translator. Eventually the board fizzled, but it lasted for some time. We really followed her on the Internet (this was 2006 people!!!) for updates. That was an incredible undertaking, and I'm forever proud to have been part of it. If anyone remembers it, let's reminisce. And Adrian, THANK YOU FOREVER FOR THAT BOARD!

Kurara is a sexy, smart, beautiful woman. I cannot believe those judges picked Zuleyka instead of Kurara perhaps because Puerto Rico was 1st runner-up the year before and also the year after Zuleyka's win Japan won crown. Pretty interesting.
for me what made her very unique from other miss jpans is that she has a very charming and calming and warm face and it's so amazing how her tan works very well with her hair colour, i've never seen a japanese woman as beautiful as she is
I have no idea what the judges were thinking. If you go back and watch the whole competition again, there is a clear stratification between the 2 finalist. Miss Japan spoke 4 languages, very intelligent, very funny and witty, very passionate and opinionated, and very naturally beautiful. I'm not being racist, but with all the variables set out, I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY SHE DIDNT WIN!!? It clearly projects to women and people in general, all the wrong messages.

I think she has spoken quite well in English. She has a good accent, better than mine lol. But speaking other languages such as French or Spanish show that she has a wide interest on everything ;) Kurara Chibana, your French was perfect, (almost) no mistakes, keep training and it will be perfect. She really should have one. She got the personality and attitude, which Zuleyka totally lacks. Zuleyka is like a manufactured product, unlike other PR beauties like Dayanarra Torres or Denise who really deserved their crowns. Zuleyka - NO. I hope Kurara is doing great now - the true winner

I agree with foresure88, people should have the right to select the new winner and in this case Kurara was the favorite one... additionally i agree with XtianKmch i enjoyed when she started to speak spanish, french and english, it showed us that she is very smart...she is a lovely girl, but i'm also suer that she is going to have a brilliant future

Here’s the Tea. 2006 it was really Kurara who won, however Telemundo a major network provider otherwise chose a Latina. 2007, they gave it to Riyo because Mikomoto’s last year’s contract with the org. It was supposed to be Brazil. Sue me.
