I wish I saw this earlier, but my Nigerian bro there was trying to say something about how we speech here. Yes he is right, different part on Nigeria speech differently, mostly we from the south south Nigeria speech completely different from the entire Nigeria, yes na.
What my fellow Nigerian was trying to say is Nigerian pidgin is dynamic, there's no set in stone way of saying something, because we diverse and a lot, each tribe contributes to the Nigeria pidgin, you might spend 60yrs in Nigeria and some phrase of pidgin English would catch you a lil off guard sometimes but you learn everyday
One of the main differences between Ghanaian and Nigerian Pidgin is that: Ghana pidgin is mostly spoken by young people. A lot of people pick it up in college/university while Nigerian Pidgin seems like a large percentage of the population regardless of age or education can speak it
And it's also mostly centred in the capital town, harbour cities and high school/colleges/university. Basically about 20% of the population. Nigeria Pidgin is spoken by way more than 50%
Ghanaian pidgin uses direct British language and I few local dialect and the Nigeria pidgin is more about accent and pronunciation ... ... Ghana pidgin is easy for our diasporas
There are so many different types of pidgin in different parts of Ghana also and most people in Ghana usually start engaging in pidgin in high school level there is always a little influence of local language which pidgin is being spoken at but generally you can still communicate with everyone with any type of basic Ghanaian pidgin english. Nigeria pidgin definitely is widely spoken than Ghana pidgin@@chiomankechikaibe7306
There is a wide variety of pidgin English spoken in Nigeria. We can say one thing several ways in pidgin and that is besides the fact that in different places in Nigeria, they speak pidgin differently. Slangs are also infused into the pidgin and some of the slangs don't fade, they become embedded in pidgin. For example, 1. what is your name? Could be translated in pidgin as: a. Wetin be your name b. Wetin dem de call you 2. What is our age difference: a. How many years I take senior your b. How many years I use senior you c. How many years I old pass you, 3. The okra soup is slimy: a. The okra soup de slime b. This okra soup de draw c. This okra soup draw d. This okra draw die (the die is a slang to tell how well the okra is slimy) 4. I want to sleep: a. I wan sleep. b. I wan crash (crash is a slang to mean time to sleep) c. Sleep de worry me (telling you that I'm feeling sleepy) 5. I want to cut my hair: a. I wan cut my hair b. I wan barb my hair 6. Long time ago a. tay tay b. e don tay 7. Calm down, your temper won't solve the problem a. calm down, you temper no go fit solve the problem b. calm down, no be with vex you go fit solve the problem c. Calm down, you no go fit solve the problem with vex. d. Chill, no be vex e. No matter how hot your temper be e no fit boil beans (the diversity of pidgin) meaning no matter how angry you are that's as far as it gets. 8. One person suffers, another person enjoys a. money de chop, baboon de enjoy b. One person de work, another person de enjoy.
Anyways whenever you see a Ghanaian man and a Nigerian man in an argument don’t interfere cause they will come together and give it to you hot hot and after they’re done with you they will go back to their argument 😂😂

The reason ours is more dynamic is because we actually speak pidgin as a parallel language that morphs over time... On the other hand, in Ghana its just a now and then thing.
Pidgin is not natural to them. When speaking they throw a few pidgin phrases here and there and can’t hold a full conversation in pidgin. Whenever they speak it appears forced. Unlike Nigeria, Liberia, Cameron, and Sierra Leone where pidgin is smooth and natural.
pidgin is not really part of us as Ghanaians to the extent that it is usually the guys who speak it. but it is gradually changing where now ladies also speak pidgin. so in my opinion, Nigerians predominantly speak pidgin more than Ghanaians
Thats true and Ghana pidgin is mostly spoken by young people. A lot of people pick it up in college/university while Nigerian Pidgin seems like a large percentage of the population regardless of age or education can speak it
Spot on. Pidgin is popularly Nigerian. Ghanaians are coming along due to influences from university/colleges. It's gained roots across the youthful population over the years. I give it to Nigeria as the owners of pidgin. GH is coming along faster and better
Dear Demochets, this is yet another lovely video! It seems that the guys are just playing up the NG/GH beef for entertainment though 😂. We aren't always bickering at each other like this in real life. Re: Nigerian Pidgin, the area that was carved out and named Nigeria is very large. The creators roped together many diverse ethnic groups, some without cultural affinity, and imposed their own language and culture on them. This mix involves some 500 languages, each with further dialects. And so, Pidgin English evolved to bridge the ensuing communication gap. Those with the means and interest go to school to learn Western Education and Western languages, typically English and/or French. However, not all have the means (e.g. the poor) or the interest (e.g. nomadic tribes). Therefore, not all speak Standard English and those with more diversity have evolved Pidgin English. Those with less diversity, such as Northern Nigeria where Hausa is predominantly spoken, are less likely to speak Nigerian Pidgin English as there is less/no need for it. Due to their Arabic/Islamic influence, they are also less receptive of Westernisation. However, in Southern, Western and Eastern Nigeria where there are more languages and dialects, Pidgin English not only exists but is dynamic, constantly changing. The most dynamic being the South-South region. If you travel out of Nigeria for a few months and return, there will be new words and phrases to learn. It changes that fast! The older generations tend to speak 'traditional Pidgin' while the younger ones keep tabs on the new slang words and phrases. Hence, older Nigerians would say 'I wan sleep,' while it's the younger ones who would say 'I wan crash.' I don't think any grandmas or grandpas envision 'crashing' onto a bed after a hard day's work! Older Nigerians would say 'I dey komot Nigeria' (I am leaving/emigrating out of Nigeria) while younger Nigerians might say 'I dey japa,' where 'japa' is slang for emigrating. I say this to explain that some of what our Nigerian brother in the video is saying is Nigerian slang. It is therefore culturally derived and specific to a context. Hence Nigerian Pidgin English varies from region to region and also across generations. If you had older speakers in the video, they might have used 'more traditional' words and phrases. Same with those who speak 'King's English' and those who don't. The 'King's English' speakers might speak a 'posh' variety. ❤
Respect to the Queen, you nailed that No wahala. It was on point ( try cool down, no wahala). just like the Nigeria guy said, there are so many slang in Nigeria pidgin. Most time people forget they are not speaking the fluent pidgin. I am from the south side, where the pidgin is top-notch. Even other Nigerians laugh at our pidgin sentences. Like instead of saying I wan chop, south south will say I wan wa le. Calm down, we say kprooo. It's just slang.

Every colonized country has a form of *BROKEN ENGLISH because of Colonizers not *Pidgin, point of correction. Anybody can speak broken English as English itself is not our first language and is easy to get incorrect grammatically. On the other hand, Pidgin has GRAMMATICAL RULES. It is an art form. It is a combination of creative influences from different Nigerian ethnic groups due to schooling in different states over the course of colonization not to talk of NYSC, iykyk. Nigerian pidgin is constant individual comedic improv and creativity. It varies by region and is deeply rooted in our post colonial culture. The English DID NOT give us pidgin. They gave us English and Nigerians MADE pidgin with it!

Pidgin is a Nigerian thing and has 3 variance of her pidgin. Yes, the Nigerian pidgin spread from Nigeria to neighbouring countries like Cameroon, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Togo. This is the reason why Nigeria leads Africa in lifestyle, culture, food, music, movies, tech, banking, people and co.

@Damian thank you. The rivalry comes from an insecurity to always measure up to Nigeria. Nigeria is already at the top. We never thought about them except recently that we finally gave into their tantrums for us to give them attention.
We Nigerians speak the general pidgin as well as regional one(this type has much influence from the ethnic groups and lots of slangs words). But a person from kaduna, a Northern state in Nigeria can speak pidgin switching among all the varieties.
Nigerians speaks the best Pidgin English in Africa , they speaks it from Babies to old age. Ghanaians learns the Pidgin from Nigerians in the 70th when Ghanaians went there to Hustle n they brought it back to Ghana
Who is deceiving you? Every english country in Africa has some sort of pidjin cos of our colonizers. People wanted to communicate with their colonizers but couldn't speak like them and so made do with the little and that was when pidjin known as broken English came to being so please educate yourself. Sierra Leone even has thiers called Cleo so nobody learnt from you bro.
You people you talk too much we deported you first so when you were coming to hustle at first where was your pidgin you hide it from us and later we came to learn from you or don't you know you came to hustle and some of you were deported why are you like always everything started from your nigeria You only know your history not others
The difference between Nigerian pidgin and others is that Nigerian pidgin have pidgin verbs, and original words as substitutes for English words; other pidgin traditions cut and join English words to make sentences. For instance, don (has), shebi (right?), comot (get out) wahala (problem), okpata (mess up) dey (is) nah(it) e (it), etc. This is just my subjective view. I love all pidgin (croelle) spoken in Africa. Diversity is the spice of life. None is better than the other. Language is for communication. As long as we are communicating, we're good 👍🏾 Nice reaction!

Ghana speak twi just like we speak pigin
Pigin English originated from WARRI, DELTA STATE.
Which is the South Southern part of Nigeria
the nigerian knows what he's saying. there's a normal pidgin and a warri pidgin. the warri pidgin is nearly another language.
Nigerians and Ghanaians are always at it 🤣🤣🤣
pidgin is not really part of us as Ghanaians to the extent that it is usually the guys who speak it. but it is gradually changing where now ladies also speak pidgin. so in my opinion, Nigerians predominantly speak pidgin more than Ghanaians
Thats true and Ghana pidgin is mostly spoken by young people. A lot of people pick it up in college/university while Nigerian Pidgin seems like a large percentage of the population regardless of age or education can speak it
That's true fact
I will agree to this.
Spot on. Pidgin is popularly Nigerian. Ghanaians are coming along due to influences from university/colleges. It's gained roots across the youthful population over the years. I give it to Nigeria as the owners of pidgin. GH is coming along faster and better
Pidgin is everywhere in Naija. Young and old speak it.
These two are a trip! Ghana Naija two cousins always beefing but interconnect.
Tooo funny 😆
Nigeria has the language called Broken, Pidgin, and ghetto slang

I wan crash for bed😂
@Oma, If I had to explain it, I would have done it just how you did it. You explained it soooo well & FACTUALLY.

There are actually different ways people speak pidgin in Nigeria. There’s the warri pidgin as the nigerian guy in the video mentioned and the port harcourt pidgin
🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭
Nigerian pidgin is diverse. I was born and brought up in Warri and when I left home for school in PH, the pidgin was different with a lot of strange slangs. Just for your better understanding ; Slangs play a big role in pidgin over here in Nigeria.
Nigerian Pidgin is on top no other pidgin is Africa comes close😂😂😂 they basically learnt pidgin from us.

Ghanaians learn de pidgin when the came to Nigeria in the 90s
Nigeria pidgin is more like parable😂😂
You know Ghana and Nigeria are pretty much the same. They are so alike.
It's not true pidgin was spoken between the British n the local people who couldn't speak proper English. Nigeria doesn't lead in all u stated except the music n movie , even the music it was jux recent.

YEAH , ITS TRUE; HAUSA, YORUBA, IGBO, LOL
It funny how Ghana was a country before Nigeria became one but they always want to disrespect us. In fact Ghana helped Nigeria gain independence from the Brits. We taught them how to do it. Come to think of it, they are still struggling to be a country.
There’s nothing like that in Ghana masa
The honest truth is that Pigin English is found in Nigeria, the Ghanaians speaking that language bonded it from Nigeria to back history you're gonna find more about this. Ghanaians once lived in Nigeria for years
The rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria is generational. And it's on all sphere including sports
The rivalry is only in the mind of Ghanaians. We are not your rivals and we don’t consider you as rivals
@@Damian-rt3rt facts
@Damian thank you. The rivalry comes from an insecurity to always measure up to Nigeria. Nigeria is already at the top. We never thought about them except recently that we finally gave into their tantrums for us to give them attention.
@@gtail942 keep dreaming bro. U think every Ghanaian always wakes up with Nigerians in mind. So bold of u to call it insecurity.

Y’all need to pay more attention to the english part of Cameron the pidgin here is crazy… but kinda nicer❤
Like for example on #01 well ask “ya name na weti???
Our pidgin is deep because we originated it. The rest of Africa simply copied ans are teying to build theirs.
