High court (headed by Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Khizir Hayat of the High Court bench) on 14th July quashed government's 2018 order and upheld another High Court verdict of 2012 (later upheld by the Appellate Division in 2013) that had observed that the reservation of 30% quota for the children of Freedom Fighters shall be followed strictly, but expunged the words 'if the quota cannot be filled up the concerned post be kept vacan. It further said it would be contemptuous to violate the Appellate Division’s decision. Government challenged this verdict (of cancellation of its 2018 order scrapping reservation) in Supreme Court on 16 July and court scheduled a hearing on 7 Aug. Due to violence hearing was preponed and Supreme Court watered down reservation to 7% or so. Now please tell us where do you get the impression that Govt wanted the quota to be reinstated? It is all politics after that on both sides that led to such unfortunate violent escalation wherein PM's remark on Razakars was taken up by opposition and fanned into agitation which turned violent when Chattra League jumped on to matters.
For decades Bangladeshis have claimed that 1947 was not freedom but a change of masters for them, they have lately realized that 1971 was also a change of masters except their new masters spoke Hindi.
