Thanks Vishnu. Your question is quite natural. Please appreciate that the first edition of US HCM was published in 1950 and India published its first manual in 2018. US manual has undergone several revisions after 1950 and methods have been updated based on the research done in last 70 years. We have published the first edition and will be updating it in subsequent revisions. I hope you understand now.
Webster's original equation of 1966 is S = 160w, where w is the approach width in feet, It is S = 525w, when w is taken in meter. Further research in UK over the last two decades has refined the methodlogy and this equation is no more in UK manual. Refer: Transport Planning and Traffic Engg by C. A. O'Flaherty.
