Just came here to say what an awesome person you are, Stu for the selfless support and assistance you provided to Paul Hibbert. I’ve learned that the smart home community is an actual “community” who all seem to support and raise each other up. Amazing.
Thanks everyone - its a worst nightmare situation that all creators lie awake at night fretting about, so when it happens to one of us, it happens to all of us! Welcome to the Country Club guys, hope you'll all stick around for an episode and a whisky or two! 🥃
Coming here from Paul Hibbert (Hibbert Home Tech). He said you helped him out A LOT .. now I'm a subscriber of yours ... love your videos... glad Paul pointed me towards your channel.... Tu Amigo Javier , Houston, Texas
Unrelated..... Your support for Paul Hibbert recently is truly awsome. Livelihoods are being destroyed by scammers and unethical hacker's. I would personally like to thank you.
Great video! You covered a lot of the things that I was wondering about. I agree with you though, the only reason I haven't bought one of these yet is because of the price. For a space heater, this is incredibly expensive. For a miner, the price is understandable but, it's way less efficient than other miners. I love the concept though! Especially because where I live in northern California, it's cheaper to use electricity to heat our homes than to use natural gas. All because PG&E charges ridiculously high gas prices and some of the local electricity companies have much lower costs. Thank you for sharing!
Cheers Dave, Pauls a good friend and what happened to him and his channel is what keeps all us creators awake at night! Welcome to the Country Club though! 🥃
Heat pump gives better than 10% and costs the same price. It's not affected by market fluctuations and, as someone else pointed out, is not subject to tax on profit. There will be a lot of tears with this kind of tech. Very interesting video though but nothing I am convinced of buying.
I'd love to give a heatpump a go, but that would require costly (and destructive) installation process that isnt accessible to a large part of the population for all sorts of reasons (cost, renting etc). Products like this, could prove still the cheaper option for renters for sure.* *if the market turns in favour of course!
excellent video. You are fully correct on the bitcoin explanation. I would argue it is mainly heating your home and bitcoin is the byproduct. keep your bitcoin as bitcoin as long as possible for the most upside in price I would think. (btw the heatbit is already integrated in a miningpool when you start so no further upside on that front) all in all great video
I thought about something like this a long time ago but with a server, such as putting some Google servers in homes. A server box could be placed outside the home and the heat ducted in to the home.
I thought about this, reason I didn't, or wouldn't recommend is because its a bit like a computer... and you wouldnt turn off a computer or console through the plug without shutting it down properly. Might cause long term issues, but i'm not sure!
It's a great idea but yeah the difference between $30 and $1200 is quite large 😁 but all it takes is bitcoin to jump a bit in the next few months and it could pay for itself.
Stu, I guess I would state that both heat and bitcoin are products with initial purchase price, utility charges and projected lifespan being the costs to produce said products. IF you could put the device where it vents out the wall of your house, is there any way in which it could remove heat from your home during warmer parts of the year, allowing you to use the device year round? What is the lifespan of the device if it is used constantly?
I'm skeptic about its power consumption claims, if some of the energy is spent on the calculations needed to mine bitcoin, how is it is possible for it to produce the same amount of heat as a simple resistor? Also many cryptocurrencies are moving away from the proof of work model meaning that, should Bitcoin switch proof of stake (or similar models), the device would stop mining...
It’s certainly an interesting concept, and it’s one that’s hard to test unless in a controlled lab environment. I guess though, they’re simply converting energy twice, once from electricity into computing power which then moves into heat. Is some of that energy lost along the way? Possibly - but all I can say was that I was blown away with the efficiency, and it heated far better than the oil radiator for half the cost 👍
fan space heater in argos £29 ? heatbit payback time is very long. i think the concept is good ie we should use compute power to warm our homes as its a better use of energy, im not sure crypto isn't the wrong thing though. why not part of a render farm or a rentable compute platform? if computers run hot, they don't last as long. also it is better to passively insulate your home than just pump heat into a leaky dwelling..
Seems like you power costs are 3 x higher than peak rates here in Ontario so the return doesn't really work here. I do use my PC for Folding at Home in the winter to keep my office warm.
Yes you’re right, from an actual dictionary definition, although in the UK, we use the term ‘energy’ for the consumption of power. 👍 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_energy_consumption
My fear is that this could be obsolete before it pays itself off. Plus the tax return implications would be complex to calculate for most users. If gas is 1 third of the price of electric heat and doesn't require new equipment, it seems like you could do better by just using gas heating and spending the extra 20p per unit you saved to just buy some bitcoin on an exchange
True, if gas was available to be installed. I live in the middle of nowhere where there aren’t much options available to me other than oil, electric or installation of a wood burner (which is the cheapest form of heating… again though if you can install it)! This at least is flexible in that it requires no installation/associated costs. But yes I agree with you on the obsolescence, although my thoughts were around the lifespan of the tech… but I guess we won’t know until these have been around for a handful of years to see how long they last! Might revisit in a few years!
@@StusReviewsUK definitely revisit in a few years. If bitcoin doubles in value but hash power doubles while energy goes down in price it would make a fascinating video. Please include gas calculations too Also, good to see you're doing well. You went to Mayfield growing up in St Anne's with me I think.
Yeah, certainly for a more accessible level with a wider adoption rate it would be great. Wonder if Heatbit will focus on a more accessible one in future 🤔
Love that Thumbnail Stu! As a product this is a super interesting concept however this feels like a mighty high price for a heater, sure over time it could technically pay for itself in Crypto but at least this is also a great heater!
Seems like a good idea but you could just mine a different coin like raven coin on a gpu using a pc. Mining btc itself is not a good idea for profit necessarily
Seems like a waste to use a lot of pricy and rare minerals just to bet on an unreliable byproduct such as saving with cryptos; the base concept of pairing computing power with heating could be cool to see in a civil engineering project tho
I don't want mining of bitcoin to take off big again, GPU prices have barely started to fall in price since the last fad. I have never mined bitcoin before but from what i read it seems to be super unstable (More so then normal stocks & shares) with people becoming both millionaires OR bankrupt overnight depending on the market conditions. The cost of GPU's alone make it a pricey venture to dabble with.
Yeah, all great points- and the fluctuations in price make it harder to pinpoint value for sure. Hopefully I managed to address that thoroughly enough tho?
You are a stand up guy! Just heard about how you helped Mr Hibbert recover his channel. Well done! I am going to play every one of your videos now without skipping the ads.
I’d love to try out a heat pump, but heard mixed success stories! Ill add it to the list of things to try! And thanks 👌 trying a new style for 2023! Glad you liked it and glad you noticed 👍👍🥃
@@StusReviewsUK here in Sweden heat pump’s are very common and generally works great but make sure to pick a proper brand like Daikin. There is a lot of crap out there.

@@StusReviewsUK DANG! That sucks balls. As soon as I posted I saw where he had started posting stuff so I suppose he will fill us all in. Thanks for the Info Stu!
Since you asked, I think it's unfortunately environmental destruction that is the byproduct of both. For crypto there's much better coins that don't use proof of work to burn more power than all but 30 other countries. For heat, a small heatpump can be bought for less that would have saved you more like £20.
Cost of product is crazy for such pathetic amount of sats .. After product cost is paid back you'd be better off investing full amount in Bitcoin directly.... Stupidly over priced

Great product … don’t forget the VAT though makes it £1194 plus import duty 😱😅
I presume that thermostatic control means the cpus drop in performance to reduce heat output? So the mining potential reduces too?
Yes that would be the case!

I'm not an expert on Bitcoin, but hasn't Bitcoin's value completely crashed a few months ago? is Bitcoin still considered relevant?
Yes quite considerably (as addressed in the episode)… but it’s still at £18,000 per bitcoin, so yes I’d say it’s still relevant 😂.
Seems like a good idea but you could just mine a different coin like raven coin on a gpu using a pc. Mining btc itself is not a good idea for profit necessarily
