The 'calm' is her soulfulness. When we listen to her the love in her soul reaches out and touches our heart and once that occurs the warmth of her love will never leave us. That's why when we listen to her start to sing, after only one note we are drawn into her world and we get the feeling she is singing 'for us' and not to us. The moment is beautiful.
This is one of my favourite performances by Angelina. Top 5 all day. This song has never been sung more beautifully.

@@navrozelalkaka8457 No question, when you take into consideration the whole outdoor setting, the live musicians, the backup singers, that was truly iconic. But I am talking strictly about her voice, she has more control here, a year older. She sings it again in the UK a year later and the voice is better yet, but this one is just the sweet spot for me.

She sang this at 8 years old at Al Sang Pa Grensen, a huge outdoor concert with her own adult backing singers and huge crowd.
This was a consummate professional performance by nine year old Angelina. If a person who has never listened to Angelina before heard this without the visual would think it’s a much older person singing.
This is the same age Angelina was when she covered “I Put a Spell On You”.

Her blues timing is one of an old black blues singer ... It is having that "swing" that Louis Armstrong was responding to ajournalist asking him "what is what you call the swing ?" Louis's answare was "if you don't have it you'll nerver know !"

You listen to this, after listening to her rendition of Gloomy Sunday on NGT,
and you realize this 'vocal chameleon' ability she has to emulate closely the
specific sound of not just Billie Holiday, but Dinah Washington as well, since
this is her famous song, is startling.
My all time favorite is not the best of her songs, but shows us what a fighter she is, her love for music and her audience. Even though she was sick the day she performed she insisted at the age of 8 to be on stage. She performed the song «Ill be there» before the audience in a swedish show.
Yes, Angelina not only has the ability to connect with listeners immediately, but I feel she connects with us individually. I’ve heard so many reactors say: “I felt she was singing to me.” Also, I like the fact that the songs are short. Angelina is giving us that 50’s vibe, and this arrangement is exactly the same structure as Dinah Washington’s original. Angelina’s version sounds just like it’s coming off an old juke box-and that’s wonderful for old people, like me.
This is my favorite version of all of the times Angelina performed this song. Her eight year old performance Al Sang Pa Grensen performance is #2.
My second-favorite version of this song by Angelina; my favorite is the lyric video, for some reason. She's so professional in this one. Also, the song itself makes me smile. Great reaction, Alex!

Amy defiantly does sound kinda like Angelina but without the depth and versatility….
Angelina Jordan kept coming up on my You Tube feed so I thought I would give her a listen. Is it me or does anyone else hear Amy Winehouse in her voice. Amazing young lady but what clips I have heard she sounds like she is doing an impersonation of Amy all the time so I don't know the real Angelina !!! Is it me or does anyone else hear what I am hearing ???
Yes, she definitely has some quality (inspiration) from Amy. If you jump into this rabbit hole (there is a lot to explore and be amazed by), I think you will agree she masters several styles and genres.
She and Amy both are using jazz vocal techniques and have similar jazz influences such as Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington to name a few. Amy always had this very noticeable hard twang and knurdle when she sang ANY song. Angelina has more of a natural rasp and vocal fry she tends to use when she sings, however, because of Angelina's wider range, she can sound smooth in some songs while having grit and soul in other songs. This song that she is singing in this video, is a Dinah Washington song and if you listen to the original, you actually would be saying that Amy sounds like Dinah! Angelina has many influences, but it's Billie Holiday that really influenced as she has mentioned in a number of interviews. You should hear her covers of My Funny Valentine from 2022, All I Ask by Adele, and an original song called A Song For A by Nico Cartosio to hear how different she can sound....
