I worked for this company for a few months and it was sad that their legal department was larger than the general customer service dept.
PowerHome came to give us an estimate about two months ago. I had done a lot of research on solar panels, batteries, and equipment. I did ask the right questions and the salesman, once distracted from his scripted responses really had no idea what I was talking about. We decided against the $92k solar system, but they contacted me several times after that with special deals, which we also declined. This video exposes WHY it's so important to research before you buy, and don't take ANYTHING a salesman tells you as gospel.
Amen to that. I'm not crazy about solar anyway.
99% of solar customers do not do any research and sign the contract with out even reading it, good for you sir

@@sandasturner9529 I had already researched off grid systems. The requirement to be wired into the grid makes it nearly impossible to DIY a whole house system where I live. The permitting and inspections would take nearly a year to complete. Even PowerHome said that where we live would take at least 6 months for the process. DIY is likely to not even be approved. Gotta love the g'mnt controlling how you live.
I checked on solar panels. My electric bill is abt $100 -120 a month. The solar panels $35-40k with zero interest 30yrs. The payment was more than my electric bill. From what I found Panels usually last 25 to 30 yrs. I just purchased a few small solar power generators. In case power goes out. Saved a ton of money.

I use propane, a nice tank will outlast any power outtage, even a flood
and I have 100 1w panels (100$), wire/solder (10$), backflow preventer (50$), and a marine battery (200$) and a DC to AC converter. They can charge the battery fully in 2 sunny days and that bat. can run my large air conditioner all day and the the fridge a few hours

Nothing new here. This happened in NJ a few years ago. A judge ruled the solar companies either had to remove the equipment without damaging the home or abandon the equipment and all claims.
I looked into this 6 times since 2002 when I purchased my home. Using the best panels with a battery storage system, the cost is about 30-35k for a house my size installed. It would take years for the costs to be recovered. In about 15 years I wound need to begin replacing panels and the battery system as their efficiency degrades over time. It's not worth it except perhaps on a new build. The few posters here who claim otherwise are either full of it or installed the panels themselves. If you are a DIY person it may make sense. Don't underestimate the costs or time.
I looked into it as well and I would likely be dead or at least moved out of my home before the panels supposedly “pay for themselves”.
I guess it best to wait till the technology matures a bit further in terms of efficiency.
That, or research hard into a DIY system, totally cutting out the middle man and probably requires familiarity with product selection.
We’re doing ours for $6K, we’re totally off the grid.
We have friends who are also off the grid, with systems that cost $30K upwards.
But, these systems are complicated setups, complete with lithium batteries.
If you keep the system simple 5K or below set up, it will pay for itself in a year.
@@HEAVENLYSONGBIRD777 For 6K I seriously doubt if you have a battery system. Without a battery system, it's not viable 24-7-365. Yes, you can save doing a DIY system but you claiming 1 year is unrealistic unless your electric rates are ridiculously high. If I did a system for 6K it would take about 5 years to break even. That's not including the cost for switching my appliances and furnace over either. If you add it all up it's way higher + like I said before, to do my home is about 30-35K. I'm 60 so it doesn't pay.
@@acardenasjr1340 that would help but don't forget you need a permit and inspection from the town. If there's a fire, the insurance company will be looking to avoid paying the claim. If you did a DIY system and didn't obtain permits and inspection, they could deny the claim in which case you're screwed.
I NEVER do business with any contractor that is not a member of the Better Business Bureau. PERIOD.
This is the equivalent of going to a shady dealership and paying 15k over MSRP for the same truck that all the other dealers have. My solar wasn’t even close to this much. These were scummy people and trying to take advantage.

As an electrical engineer I had already done a lot of research into a system that I needed and the cost of components. I was shocked when the PHS salesman came up with price. Their profit margin was obscene.

I live in Michigan and had power home solar quote my install. Their quote was 50% higher than the quote I went with. The sales guy was a total shyster. I am pretty sure people who use them did not get many other quotes. My summer bill dropped from over $300/month to $40/month. The after tax cost was about $14k. I had seven quotes and three of them were in this $14k range. So solar is great, but beware of the shysters out there. Do your homework.

The one woman said they came door to door, that's always a red flag in my book. If a company's good enough they don't have to solicit door to door to get sales.
Never answer the door.. nothing good comes from door to door sales. Never answer the phone to unknown callers. If you have senior parents you have to always remind them.

I have never and will never buy from a door to door salesman, an unsolicited phone call, a popup ad, or in fact any unsolicited advertisement. If I want information on a product or service, I know how to google. Otherwise, don't waste your time.
And I'm curious, even if it was to cut your electric bill by 80%? You still have a monthly payment for that solar system that's like double what your electric bill would be.. so how in the hell are you helping yourself at all?
These people are scamming people interested in solar. They use a lot of flashy terms to get people to sign terrible contracts.
My system is $150 a month and covers all of the homes power needs. My monthly bill would fluctuate between $400-$750 a month. 100% worth it.

@@MissCookie8260 Worth it for me too. My system only cost me 20k. I make enough a year to pay that in cash and I went from paying from $30-$80 in the spring, summer and fall to only paying the $10 service charge. I only get an actual bill in the dead of winter which averages around $150 and that only comes from using the heat at night. I still produce enough power to run my appliances year round and heat my house during the day. Needles to say even if solar doesn't fully eliminate the winter heating bills, it still makes electric heat the cheapest way to heat.
If you pay for it all up front, then it makes perfect sense especially if you are all electric. You also have independence and peace of mind by not having to worry about rising utility costs. In my area, a battery won't save me any money due to the net metering credit being the full retail rate but it will give me total independence.
These fly by night companies need to be sued big time, put out of business and forced to pay full restitution to EACH customer!

My neighbors installed solar panels and we live in Southern California so we have sun 99 % of the time. After a year I asked them if they are saving money and the wife told her husband to tell how much her Edison bill was. He said 59 cents last month and I said ok what is your solar panel bill and she replied 300 dollars a month for 10 years. Then I asked what was your electric bill prior to solar panels and she said 200 dollars in the summer and 150 the rest of the time. But the panels are paid off in 10 years and I didn’t say anything else. But I was thinking you are paying way more for the solar panels then the Edison bill was. Crazy
Either you are slow or you failed every math class ….. if they will pay solar off in 10 years but they pay 100 a month more than their electric bill used to be that means in 10 years they will no electric bill 😒 … that’s a no brainer… they could stretch the loan out to make it cheaper than their old electric bill …duh

The average bill that the couple had factoring in 5 summer months and 7 regular months is approximately 165 a month.
They're paying 300 bucks a month for 10 years for solar.
135 extra a month x 12mo x 10 yrs = extra $16200!!!!!
Ok, So after 10 years You're in the hole 16,200.
Let's say their normal electric bill would now be $200 a month if they did not have solar (inflation)
So they have to make up $16, 200 before they're even correct? So after 81 MORE months they will be even (16200 extra /200 = 81 mo. ) 81 months = 6.75 yrs
So it will take them 6.75 years after the 10 years of paying for the solar just to break even. So that's 16.75 years from your investment to break even!!!!
And that's not even factoring in that you have to replace expensive solar parts every 10 years!
Also let's not forget you could have invested that extra $135 per month into the stock market or a mutual fund every month and earned money off of that for 10 years!!!
And that's not forget you're now locked into your house!!!!. if you move you've lost out on recouping your investment!!!! Most people move after 5 to 7 years now in a house! You might even have to move for reasons other than voluntary
And let's talk about health!! let's hope you're healthy enough to live long enough to recoup this crazy investment!!!!.

These people are scam artists. We never paid anywhere near this much to have it installed.
This is like seeing someone get scammed into paying $15,000 more for a Ford F150, when every other dealer is selling at the asking price, and then saying "ALL Ford trucks are a huge scam!".
Very clearly they're planning on people coming to them first and not shopping around/strongarming potential buyers into signing a contract.
If you live in the Detroit area and want it, I can dig up the names a handful of companies that are reputable.
There are great and legit solar companies. Power home is not one of them.
I built a new home, lots of insulation, attic, walls, inside and out, garage walls, everything. Good quality roof with the roof pad. I haven't had a bill over 250 and that is RARE in the 19 years I have lived here. You don't need the cost and headaches of solar. PLUS those panel have to be replaced, many times before you even get them paid for.
done yourself it is worth it. I bought some panels and they were easy to wire to a boat battery, that battery attached to a panel runs the air conditioner in my bedroom and has never ran out of charge, I use it for a small bedroom electric heater in the winter

Yep, not to victim blame but these people were idiots, especially the younger ones like Leah and the couple Jeremy and Soniah completely ignoring the reality of their geography. Even if you wanted grid independence your not gonna get it by paying 70k that's absolutely unsustainable because your paying more for the panels then the grid, and by time you pay em off those panels won't have enough performance to power anything, although I suspect they never did in the first place as I'm sure those panels were bought for cheap from bad manufacturer. That black guy too, like how do you just buy something because you favorite athlete appeared in an ad for it? And that elderly couple, their so old they couldn't even make that money back if they bought working quality panels in ideal weather for only 10k, because they would die from old age before then.
Yes. They indeed lie. I live in Southern Arizona. Almost no one here has solar. $22,000 up front. I could not run my home on the energy generated. My only option was to sell the electricity back to the electric utility. Tell me why I would spend that amount of money if my only option is to sell back to the utility? No $ale.
I feel so bad. I was briefly a salesperson/assistant manager at PowerHome and due to a clean house revamp of the office everyone was newly hired on in the beginning of winter which for the Midwest means no installs. Everything being said by sales people is what’s being taught to us by the company, and in the beginning people whole heartedly believe it and/or misunderstand it because training is so rushed so over my time there I did educate myself to explain things better. However once spring came around and installs started happening we saw what the company really was about and the sales force started dropping off fast. It’s sad because the majority of us got into it because we believed in solar power, no one I worked with was trying to swindle anyone but it seems that’s what ultimately happened anyways 😔

A similar nightmare played out in Arizona a few years ago. The installation was done as a lease, so if the owner tried to sell the house the lease had to be transferred with it, requiring the prospective owner to agree to assuming the lease and the company accepting the prospective owner.
Rooftop solar has attracted a lot of very shady operators.
And attracted a lot of gullible Liberal idiots who think they are going to save the planet!

I am building my own solar system now. On my channel. However, I had this same company (Powerhouse Solar) come out and quote me what was suppose to be a 10kw array system (I told them exactly what I wanted) and they quoted my 85k and tried to pressure me to sign on the spot. I told the guy to leave. I know solar and that was a rip off. Turns out after all was said and done, they actually quoted me that on a 8kw system. I would never recommend them to anyone. They are ripping off consumers, don't let it be you. Look elsewhere.

This is actually the best way to do it is yourself. Don't ever trust a company because we all see what they do. It is not that difficult to install your own solar panels and this complete system in order to power your house. You should also have a backup generator 4 on the days that are very cloudy. There are a lot of people that install their own solar panels so it's not that difficult
First, you don't "get a check" from the government. Installing solar gives you a _TAX CREDIT._ That means when you file, you can claim the cost of the solar system and that reduces your _tax burden_ by the incentive. If these people thought that they would get a check in the mail, they can send in an amended tax return and get that money back.
Unless you don't pay taxes e.g. you're jobless, its pretty much the same thing as getting a check. Look as it this way. Instead of paying your taxes and then getting a check for installing solar, its more efficient to just get the credit as a deduction from your tax liability.
It should be against the law to do this because now lots who were thinking of solar will stay away. Solar works if set up properly and if you can do it yourself you can save thousands. I set mine up and now when the power goes out I still have power for a few days
As a former solar sales man this irks me because they know damn well that they are awful for telling those lies. ALWAYS check with your energy provider to see if it could help you. And never take an offer if the offset is less than 85%

I wouldn't necessarily say the energy provider always is helpful. They often hate people going solar because it's taking power buying from them. I work for a highly rated company doing sales in solar and I'd never do anything unethical in order to get a sale.

@@RagingMerc I thought they'd love it. They get to buy back extra energy at a fraction of the cost, and sell it to other people for free money essentially. They lose people buying power but they essentially start gaining thousands of small sources of free income.

As someone who’s a D2D sales rep for an honest solar company, companies like powerhome make my job 1000% harder because their ruining the reputation of the entire industry. Especially the D2D side

I use solar panels to cool my house in the summer.Running 12v radiator fans directly off my solar panels with no batteries.Draws fresh air through windows,& pushes hot air out of my attic all day.Works great! Save a lot of money not running air conditioning.
I live in rural area, and I built my own system back in the 90's. No electric company and it works great. Today it averages out to be about $50yr and that the maintenance.
Its the way to go if you know what you are looking at. but if you listen to the salesman, you are sure to get fleeced. Remember, the easiest way to tell if a salesman is lying, is if words are coming out of their mouth, they are lying.

My favorite part is watching people with roofs not even facing the sun or living in snowy areas actually believing that they could live 100% on solar power during the winter. In a world full of information right on your smartphones and computers just how do people get fooled? It’s not even like preying on senior citizens who aren’t tech savvy but middle aged people. And in this day and age who signs up for services from door to door salesmen? I’m not saying that people deserve to get scammed, just that being so naive expecting to benefit without doing any research pretty much sets you up to lose money.
These people didn’t even read the fine print of the documents they signed which legally gives the scamming company more leverage. Just because the CEO was flashy, took pictures with influential people like politicians (even the president at the time) doesn’t mean the company is clean without any skeletons.

With all do respect to everything you said which I agree with. But I respectfully do not agree with your statement about "who buys from a door to door rep?!" I'm a door to door salesman and many of my very good friends are. And we do as much as we can to educate and explain the product with all honesty. Solar or sales in general only takes one bad rep to mess it up for all of us. Just as there are bad sales men out there doesn't mean we all are bad, there are also bad engineers, doctors, construction workers, electricians, mechanics, teachers, police officers, and every single profession. I hope you guys give other honest people a chance to truly help and make a good living, yet don't be naive and not fact check everything you hear!!

So if they never provided the contract how did they sign it? The sale isn't legal until they sign, so it stands to reason they had an opportunity to read it. Besides, even after you sign you still get a copy of it as proof.

I've been in sales my entire career
I'm now 54. Guys like that have ALWAYS DISGUSTED ME. Why the courts let them get away with that shit blows my mind. There aren't salesman, they are CON ARTISTS. Treat the customer with respect, be honest and open, fix their issues or needs....the money will follow....quit being a scammer you P.O.S.

I've had a 10kw system for 6 years so far. I typically don't have an electric bill for 9 months of the year...once it gets wintery ....I pay a little bit not much.
This is what attorneys call, an Unconscionable Contract. If you have an attorney, make sure to bring this legal theory up with them, and demand that your attorney make this a substantial part of your claim.

I paid a deposit of 1012.50 for a removal and re-install so I could have a roof replacement done. They failed to show up on time so I paid the roofing company to do it. Now I'm fighting tooth and nail to get a refund. They are crooked and don't care about customer service
They call it “power purchase” agreements. A company came through my neighborhood outside of San Diego. A fast talking salesman used “if you qualify” many times. He said I had to initial and sign a lengthy contract on his cellphone, “to do a site survey to see if you qualify.” “For a mere $200 a month, guaranteed their system would lock in that price for 25 years with a 2% increase each year.
I printed the contract and read it after they left. (I canceled the contract the next day.) Things they failed to mention: I would not get the 26% tax credit. I would not receive credits for excess energy. The 25 year contract is tied to the house, if I sell the buyers have to “qualify” for a new 25 year contract. They get a legal easement to my property and roof. I still would have to pay a “grid connection fee”. At $200 a month with a 2% increase over 25 years totals over $85,000 for $5000 worth of equipment installed that I would never own. 3 estimates averaged $19,000 if I bought the same system.
A neighbor near me bought into their pitch. The company installed 33 panels on the roof that gets direct sunlight for about 2 hours a day because of trees. It’s not producing “120% of their energy needs” it’s less than 10% but they still have to pay $250 a month for the solar and near $200 a month for grid electricity. Dozens of trees on their property and neighboring property would have to be cut down for their system to produce the company’s estimated output. The contract is “iron clad” with a “no sue” clause and buy out or removal will be in the tens of thousands. Refusal to pay will result in a lean against the property.
When my salesman returned the day after I canceled, because I complained about him when I canceled I had to threaten to call the Sheriffs if he didn’t leave my property.

You can't have someone sign a contract that supersedes the law, the contract is void if it's illegal. So how is this getting past consumer protection laws?
Lots of contracts have clauses like "by signing this contract you agree to waive all your legal rights that aren't explicitly written into this contract."

@Jason Smith thats misleading thought, you dont really get the 26 btw, you dont get a check of 26k. the 26 is credit, so when your work takes tax from your paycheck and at the end of the year you do your taxes and if you end up needing to pay to the government lets say 5k, then your 26k would lower your payment to 0 and then you can use the other 21k credit on the next year
@Jason Smith that's how the solar power companies lie to the homeowners, telling them they will receive a check at the end of the year that they can use for a vacation or something like that. Its credit so if you end up getting back from the government after doing taxes then that credit doesn't apply. Im not really sure about this but i think if you dont pay any taxes( like being your own boss and work not taking away taxes out of your check) i think you can apply that credit there

Honestly I never understood how going solar saves you money. The amount of money you gotta pay for labor or heck doing it yourself. Just the price for supplies is still freaking expensive. You’re better off not going solar.

It all depends on where you live in the country. Michigan is a waste of time and money if you choose to do solar. Why? There's never any sunshine except for 30 percent of the year. However, if you live in Florida, California, Nevada, or Arizona, that is a different story. Solar will work in those states significantly and efficiently no matter if you are financing, paying in full, or building it yourself. I know from experience. My landlord used it on the townhouse I rented and he never had to pay an electric bill for years.
I makes economic sense here in southern Arizona where we get triple digit temps all through the summer. But the only way to make it pay is to find a reliable contractor yourself, hiring a lawyer who specializes in domestic real estate and residential utilities modifications and remodeling, checking the contractors involved with Better Business Bureau, the Consumer Protection Division of your District Attorney's office and search for criminal convictions of the provider's principal managers & employees; then pay for the system up front. The biggest solar scam is that "it won't cost you anything" Especially you little old ladies, when the salesman is young, "looks nice," is pleasant and well dressed means that you had better be on the lookout! Those are the crookedest.

I read all those terms when we had a sales man give us the sales pitch a few months ago. None of the terms looked like it would benefit the customer, not even the tax credit. Total BS! Especially since there’s only 2 of us in the home. We’d never benefit from the higher monthly payment for the solars. Our electric is way lower $50-100 monthly depending on the season.
I was approached by Power Home Solar for a job as a salesman. Thank god I decided not to move forward, I got a weird feeling from their management. They were very pushy. Also had a friend work for their customer service department and he talked about how many negative call backs they got on a regular basis.
That was a stupid mistake. Most of the reps are making between 100 and 200,000 a year.

It's not just these reps. It's the whole company. I have somebody that used to work there. They all push a 65% offset and tell you that'll wipe out 100% of the bill. They ram a battery down a customer's throat that has a teaspoon worth of juice, because the company makes hands over fist off of these Generac power cells. You can buy the Generac power cell for about 10 grand and they charge $23,000. Now if there was a guy from NASA installing them maybe I could see 15,000, but it's a bunch of people that never had a job in solar that are just looking for a job for $20 an hour. I live in the Colorado Rockies. I have 31 solar panels. I paid $32,500 for my system. I got $10,000 back from my taxes and I paid them off in 10 months. I pay $10-18 a month in electricity now. Our state has a list of approved installers. I am extremely happy!

I went straight to a major installer, no special deals, no half baked rebate offers or complex schemes. A plan, a date, a price, a contract. Without solar, we would now be unable to continue overheating the pool or keeping aquariums due to the huge price increase of utilities. We pay about 10x more than the world median for electricity. Solar fills the all the extra plus. Its better to find a good company than to let a bad company find you.
I work for an honest company. We hear about all the bs that other companies feed their customers to get a sell and are hard to get ahold of once it is installed. It’s not about upsells, it’s about determining the most economical array for your situation. Nice post.

After I bought my house in Orlando Florida I spoke to a solar company and ask them about solar for my house. They went over everything with me and advised me in the end that I would be paying more for the solar powers then I would for being connected with the power company. And advised me that the central air condition would not be able to be utilized because of the power that it would draw. So I have to give props to this man for being honest. I was willing participant seeking out the solar power. He could have very easily lied to me and I could have lost 40 to 45,000. I believe that was called Sunshine solars but I could be wrong. I did end up getting sores panels for my pool to heat it cost $4,700 loss $4,700 with the cold pool. I should have called the other guy I'm sure he would have told me the solar panels will never heat your pool. Unless the pump is running 24/7 to keep the flow of water going now mind you the pump is not hooked to the solar power so that made my electric bill $500 a month. 😐. And then on top of it having a discussion with the salesman he needed to call the owner because he couldn't answer some of my questions and then the owner said six panels were needed to heat my pool. Day of installation they made a leak in my roof they installed four panels told me I paid for four panels and that I was wrong he never said anything about six panels that the salesman must have said it and he was wrong and that he was going to fire him. 😂 Sir I recorded everything it was you that told me six panels not the salesman he called you to ask you and you stabbed them in the back to cover your own ass and lie and take advantage of a customer. I got the two extra panels for sure but they still didn't heat the pool. I still believe as far as homes are concerned solar panels have a long way to go they need to improve the solar panels. I see hundreds of people put them on their RVs Now that I can go for because they truly work because these RVs are not connected to power poles. But as far as the house is concerned people run forest run 40 to 45,000 surpasses what you will ever pay in that 30 years in regular electric. Maybe in the future but it's not there yet.

Solar is an incredible source of energy, and I’ve had it for 2 years and I didn’t come out of pocket to install it. it’s been saving me some coin too. If you do go solar, reach out to sunrun, which is a much larger company with history and actual credentials.
They’re in the New York stock exchange and have been solid with their word this far.

If someone hands you a contract that has the word "arbitration" in it. Its a deal breaker. Not so bad if its cable or a cell phone , you can cancell that but when it's $50,000 in solar panels beware.

As the Solar Saver in my Area. I love having these CST call my company to come service their equipment. I have 2000 systems that are regularly maintain and we are doing such a great job at it we are taking on Orphaned Systems. There is a warranty on the product but 90% of issues are workmanship failures.

Not my experience.... I went with a Massachusetts company called Boston Solar, they let me know about all the tax credits and rebates available, helped me get them too. I ended up with like 10,000 of rebates I think and I make on average 100 dollars a month from production, plus a negative bill from the electric company, so no electricity cost most of the year, if I manage it right none of the year.
The amount I get paid in the bank is a Massachusetts program that you really can't get anymore though, but still some companies out there are legitimate, so go with Boston Solar if youre In Massachusetts.

Theoretically your roof should be replaced at the same time. You will spend $20,000 to remove and replace the solar system if you roof needs replaced a few years later.

Yes it is bad rip off, that did not have to be. As an installer and designer I can say that the average 6 - 8 KW system only cost them $8 - 10k with where most of the cost is for the inverter. 10 years ago in the beginning an installed system cost about $5 per installed watt, now that is about $.95 per watt. They were price gauging these poor and naive homeowner big time.
Doug, the problem is, this Jayson guy never intend to design this thing as a "good system working for people", but racking up the total cost, let bank or financial institution finance it, and then he pocketed the money now.
Also, a system going to work will not be as juicy as the promotional material suggested.

Back in the 80s I purchased a home with 'solar' but it was only used for heating up water for our hot water tank. It was a great system and came preinstalled on the home. After about 5 years we started having some leaks and we had a 'solar company' come by and give us some quotes. They wanted to replace the system with a full solar power system which would give us hot water and power. After I heard they wanted me to sign a 15 year $40K loan, I did the math and I found I'd never recover any money and it would cost a lot more monthly. I ended up removing the hot water panels and installing a traditional tank. My gas bill went up $25 per month. I was good with that.

One solar panel produces 250 - 400 watts of energy an hour, that has a potential of getting 4,800 watts of power per day, if you are generous and say that each panel produced the max amount of 400 watts per hour, which is very unlikely, then you’d get
4,800 watts of energy per day.
4,800 watts is 4.8 Kilowatts a day.
The common household uses around 30 kilowatts of power per day, meaning you’d need 6 of these solar panels running at the full 400 watts per hour for 12 hours every single day in order to produce enough energy for that whole day.
Obviously the scenario above is impossible as the sun is rarely out 12 hours a day at full strength so let’s see what it looks like from the slow end.
A penal producing 250 watts of power per hour, per day for 12 hours would produce 3,000 watts of energy per day, or 3 kilowatts of power per day, meaning you’d need a grand total of 10 solar panels in order to produce enough energy for that day.
The above scenario still doesn’t take into account weather, panel positioning, geological factors, etc.
What all this means is, there is so many factors that take into account how much energy you could produce that it makes the whole process not worth it imo.
I’d only suggest getting solar panels for emergency power until they make better panels.
What you could do is buy like 2 panels and hook them up to batteries so they constantly store the power in the batteries to use incase of some sort of power-outage or other emergency.
If my math is wrong it’s because I was always horrid at math.
I you swap most electrical to 12 volt then it is efficient.

One thing I didn't see mentioned in this is them doing a price/power consumption audit. If a company comes in already knowing what they want to sell you then you've already lost. Not to mention I read contracts and won't sign until I've read it and if needed I'll toss an attorney a couple hours of pay to go over the things I may not understand. In reality I've never had to have an attorney work a contract but I've walked away from homes, mortgages and loans when the paperwork didn't agree with what was agreed upon. Even had the other guys attorney say sign and we'll change it later! LOL.

I’m a Director of Sales with a team of 23 people. If a salesperson at my company behaved even 10% like any of these guys, I would fire them instantly. This is the kind of stuff that wrecks companies.
I've done solar installation for 2 companies. (41) panels @ 450watts each after losses generally produce 18kw per hour with a general minimum of 5hrs of sun. Works out anywhere between 90 and over 100kw on a sunny day. The average usage is under 30kw per day for most households not running a grow room, methlab, and chopshop out of their house at the same time. I personally use around 12kw per day with low drain appliances and LED lighting. Something's not adding up with the numbers unless they are using non commercial low watt panels. Obviously during the winter almost no energy would be produced in northern areas from any panel, but often the summer months make up some of the losses.

Produce power to sell.to.the power company for pennies, receive that same amount of power from the grid they sell back to you for an exorbitant price.

My elderly father-in-law had 2 sales people come years ago for Solar.. we were there as well.. so they explained to us and we said so when its night time your on the grid.. and when the power goes out for the block your out as well.. we caught them red handed.. tried to sell and we said no, not to mention the solar install was something like 30k for like 15years... we waited and then we all got Tesla solar with powerwall, (us, father-in law and brother-in law). All of us had the same size system.. now this the best part.. 24k for 10years and we all got the 30% tax credit which we all put back into the solar loan.. so now we were at 13.5k to pay... since we all live in California, the solar + powerwall is paying us good.. our electricity bill is nothing now.. our plan is now pay off the solar loan quick and be self sufficient... If you know how, work out your daily usage in your home and and then get solar+powerwall to cover the day and night... Also 2 of our neighbors went with Tesla and they love it... one of our neighbor's went with sunrun but without the battery... we all know he made a big mistake.. but hey what can you do... That sunrun system is only solar.. as someone must of advised him he could battery later when the tech gets better.. but from our experience, my wifes work friend did the same and now he wants to add a battery, so most companies wont touch his solar only system or they want to charge him a arm and a leg for just to install a battery.... do your research first i say...
I once had Power Home Solar installed on my home. I enjoyed having then, but when I sold my house, the appraiser did not value the solar panel system. North Carolina Real Estate Laws DO NOT provide a basis or even allow for a basis in developing the value of a dwelling with solar panels. Zero! The appraiser informed me that the technology was still "new", so lawmakers were not interested in changing laws about solar panels because they are recipients of campaign funds from Fossil Fuel Industry ! So, $25,000 was wasted on that house ! Incidentally, I enjoyed having the system! While I owned that home, I reduced my power bill during the summer months by about 30%. I had 24 panels total. In order to get full benefit, I would need 90 or more. So, buyer beware of smooth talking young sales people from Solar dealers ! Check the facts for your area and state before buying ! As far as government rebates go, Good Luck ! The US government (Congress) decided not to extend Solar Rebates to consumers after a brief number of years of providing rebates. Administration change did that to us consumers.
