One thing I forgot to mention in this video is the game's performance seems to be worse now than when I played it for the early access launch last year. I have a 4090 and I-913900K with 64 GB of RAM and I had to drop the graphics to medium/high with a 60 FPS cap to reduce stuttering. I can only imagine how rough it's going to run on low/mid PCs and consoles.
I've been thinking about this one. It looks fun, but your review has me worried. I'd like to wait, but the fear is that if people wait for them to improve it, they may think nobody is interested and abandon it before it actually gets good.
Yea it was basically a bad business move on their part. I’m sure they had their reasons though for releasing it now. Might of had a dead line to meet on a contract or something. Who knows. I’m more of a builder on survival games so this news doesn’t bother me. Been playing it for a week now and I love it. Just collecting resources and building. Every so often doing a mission or event. Def needs some work though won’t lie but it’s not unplayable and it’s worth at least playing it until the updates in my opinion.
I prefer the more Fable-esque aesthetic of Smalland over Groundeds '80s vibe, personally. But that might be because the '80s has been done to death in pop culture. I also prefer what is essentially a portable base that's safe over a base I have to defend, but maybe that's because I actually enjoy base building, including decking them out with neat decorations and trinkets. It satisfies my OCD. As for movement and combat, I suppose to each their own, but it sounds more like a skill issue to me. Pretty much every enemy has one to two attacks, with the lader usually being a hard to avoid quick attack, but their heavy attacks have extreme wind ups that are telegraphed almost unfairly in the players' favor. I get perfect blocks almost constantly. I was slaying Green Beetles with a bone mace early game, no problem. Though your two points about "what is something you can jump on" and "every creature being aggressive" did provide me with some "new player experience" grief. I'd rather have a balance of passive and aggressive creatures like Grounded.
I remember I put like 40 hours when it first came out in EA, every time a big update dropped i tried to get into it but couldn’t (mainly was waiting for 1.0) I remember every time I loaded my old save on the tree top it was a laggy mess. Now I’m starting a full brand new character and save and it runs pretty good. Kinda crazy how they release a 1.0 (still with mainly blatant bugs). Just hoping they dropped a lot of patches n such before April. I’m probably gonna be off n on this game like I was the last year until some of those big revamps happen
Yeah, I was excited for the game, been looking forward to it for months. I saw a few other people playing and I noticed problems that I didn't hear them address so I watched your stream and that told me everything I needed to know. I'm happy to wait a year and see where things are at.
Thank you, that was exactly what I needed to know. I've been watching this game for a year. I will wait until it's finished in 6 months before I buy it.
I think you're being a little TOO hard on it. I'm new to the game and playing on PS5. A friend and I have been playing it all day and loving it. To each their own, I guess? 🤷🏼
Ya I agree totally he’s being to picky over stupid little things. Like the combat and perfect parry I mean I do great blocks and the combat is awesome lol so idk what he’s talking about…maybe he just sux….one complaint I gotta say is that it’s a very grindy game and the mounts don’t help that at all ya know like in ark some Dino’s help u harvest items and carry more items ya know I wish they would do that for some of the bugs in the game
The only question people need to ever ask themselves with these games is whether there is $30-35 worth of product here. The answer is clearly yes. Mechanics work great, scenery is perfect, and the music is thematic. Quality of life updates, "more content," and bug fixes are always incoming with all games these days. For an indie release, this is a fantastic choice.
Havent watched the full video, but i have to say, getting a quick answer in 45 seconds is recommendable, i wish more people would just give you that stuff early instead of dragging it out for 10+ minutes. I dont know the channel, but you got a new sub dude!
I'm sad to say this 1.0 update threw me off the game.. Here is my experience. Load up an old save, can barely move because performance is somehow worse? Die from falling out the big tree because I didn't notice they took away my wings that came with my armor set lol. (partially my fault for not paying attention) So I start a new save to see if it works better, visually the new starting zone looks amazing so i'll give them props for that. After talking to an npc, he sends me up the road where I constantly get attacked by ants and even worse bees. By the time I killed them all it was dark, so even more dangerous creatures show up.. Get frustrated and quit. I realise most of it is a skill issue but, I prefer the first starting area of this tbh.
@@dissonanceparadiddle Pretty sure they are still in the game, but not on the same armorsets as before the 1.0. I was wearing the bee armor at the time.
Honestly I had a completely different experience I started the game a few days ago love the game also maybe get an actual weapon instead of showing people how damage sucks with a damn stick
Great review, thank you. As a new player to Smalland I agree it still feels like its in early access. You were spot on with the combat and movement. And I absolutely hate that there are no visual clues as to what terrain is real and what you will fall right through. I'm used to Grounded where if you can jump on it or move to it, its real.
I decided to go for it. First I bought it on Xbox X and I loved it! So fun and great performance. But one of my friends got it for Steam so I bought it for that too. The performance on PC is not great. My hardware is far beyond the recommended requirements, and I even tried to lower all settings all the way down and it's still a bit choppy. Hoping this improves because I love the game and I am hoping keep playing for a long time
finally someone who gives you the pass or play at the beginning, instead of making me wait through the whole thing if i don't want to, you earned a sub
Thank you for giving the information up front. I was considering getting it now but would rather make the final decision in 6 or so months then. Please make a video in about 6 months to indicate whether it would be worth spending money on this game then.
You know what, all I wanted to know was if it was worth it straight up and you provided that, so I ended up actually sticking around to hear the rest of your thoughts.
Fun fact, ants and mice can generally survive a fall from any height because fall damage isn't really a concern for small animals (low-weight, high relative surface area). So the whole fall damage thing doesn't make sense from a gameplay or immersion perspective.
You're missing a few factors there: Small things also have less mass and so have a lower terminal velocity, small things have more than two limbs meant to be in contact with the ground (and each limb beyond four provides extra stability and weight distribution on landing), and the fact that air resistance quadruples for every doubling of speed, which affects low mass objects and creatures far more than does gravity for purposes of acceleration and maximum velocity. Now, all this said, even when dealing with miniature people, they have rather small surface area relative to other creatures their size, are rather dense with very thick bones compared to other animals (and gear adds to that density) and high mass due to body structure, so taking damage from falling a great distance actually makes sense for player characters, at least. And even that aside, falling wrongly, even for smaller insects, can still hurt or kill.
I just got this game on my Xbox, and was so excited. I got thrown in and can't make it to the first person. I keep dying so much. I died about twenty times now and am not sure what to do
Never got into the game coz of missing pickup animations. Hard to believe they pushed it like that into 1.0. Guess it will stay one of my 2023 purchase regrets lol.
Looking at the "2024 roadmap" and the current state of this game I think mojority of us will say that it's not a 1.0. I'm glad I didn't bought it when it dropped into EA. Will prob wait like 6/12'sh months and then give it a go (when I'm gonna be hungry for another survival game I guess).
I bought this game to play offline and when I load the game offline the game freezes before the main menu loads up. I’ve done everything deleting it redownloading it and I even rebuilt my saved data and the game still doesn’t open offline. It works just fine while connected to the internet
I am sadly disappointed in this game. It went from Possibilities to trash. For any needing why I say this... I beat it. It was only about 8 more hours than I had from pre 1.0. But the real reason I am upset is... most of the game seems slated to be changed in 2024.... so... Dec 2024, the game is basically going to be completely different in feel... making it feel odd to be '1.0 launch' now... Part of it is lack of care in world creation as well, I gave it the "its early access, I will give them time" approach, and now its 1.0 Launch, and yet floating objects, non collision objects and such still exist - even in the NEW map areas, which have had the most recent attention. It is so disappointing to be on a tree root, and see a big leaf you think you can jump down to, only to clip right through it and die to fall damage when you hit the ground. and yea, world events are garbage. its like 83 hours to max 1 faction to get the bonus, and that doesn't include if you buy the Faction Exclusive gear. 6 points per event... just... not worth the grind. (time estimated on 30 minutes per event, where they spawn every 20minutes or so, but to get to them, then fight the bugs, then complete them takes time too)
I'm a completely new player, heard of it for the first time yesterday. As a Gothic player I don't mind being thrown into a dangerous world that can kill me when I wander too much off. I like that. However, what is a big turn off is that I have to talk to some NPCs to progress in the game. What's that to do with survival. There are my folks, no survival needed, I'm safe.
Oof....To recommend to wait 6 more months, when console has waited this long doesn't bode well. By that time this game will be pretty much forgotten. That's the only thing about console, when you finally get the game if it's not up to par it's DOA

My Xbox is better than that Jesus
Too much pc for nothing... Mine has 16 GB RAM and runs the game on ultra perfectly
Performance has been really good on ps5,
I have seen massive frame studders on pc gameplay.
Smooth as butter on ps5
I have 7800xt and 5800x3d runs 100fps no problem...once I turned off frame limit, before then it was bad (ultra settings)
I like how you are straight to the point from the beginning and I really love the overall format of your video. Keep up the good work!
Absolutely. I got my answers in first minute; but due to the openess I decided to keep watching.

did they get rid of all the wings because if so that's lame.

Great, video. I have finished the story up to this point, and I will still wait for 6 months to go back

This is for the almighty algorithm.
Appreciate the meat and potatoes up front, thank you for that.
This is so random i was just looking at enshrouded on steam and this popped up so i had to have a look, its like Grounded and bugdom!
Great honest review. To me this game is just meh. If you're looking for something similar Grounded is far better. Thanks for the honest review.
For what it’s worth, Fallout 76 has the save your base feature. Your layout becomes a blueprint that can be moved elsewhere.

Thanks for quick recommendation
I feel like the jumping feeling like you have less gravity could come up to the fact that your character weighs less than 1lb
Damn, bro really saved me $40. Gonna have to sub

Fallout 76 oddly had the base move facility, also this game basically looks like Grounded, in a good way.
Not a huge fan on how you can transfer your base like that. Makes it seem like the developers are cutting corners
This game is great. I highly recommend it
Thank you for the vid. Cheers!

Thank you 🤙🏻
This vs. Grounded?
Grounded is better in almost every way
This game rules on PS5.
Good video this is cool I will buy game during sale
Is there crossplay between ps5 and pc?
Any endgame content?
Thank you!
very informative
I am addicted to this game....😢
lol map hard to use?? 😂😂😂 bruh I think u just have a problem reading maps
Fallout 76 grants you the ability to move your entire base
They do and don't. You can have multiple camp spots but it doesn't actually move your base or it's structures
@@slomo7543no you can also move your camp with your base where you want

it's like Earth Defender Force middle age version lol~~~...
