This video includes footage of the first Down show ever, which was at RC Bridge Lounge on Magazine Street....I was there. The footage was filmed by my friend Mike Savoie. Down opened up for Eyehategod....killer show. Stressball & Both Legs Broken were supposed to play, too, but they cancelled. Brings back killer memories..
Philip himself said that this is hands down the most difficult song of all time to sing. Those screams at the end are absolutely fucking insane, I don't think that anyone else in the world could match that tone and intensity. Philip H. Anselmo is by far the greatest singer of all time, long live The Kid! 🤘🏼🖤
the whole pantera discography is impossible to match. However , he is not the best but def a top tier , like chris cornell , layne staley, rob halford and robert plant
28 years later and this album still reminds of you.. rest in peace BIG STEVE. Luv ya buddy. Your memory lives on in music. I'll never forget the time at the TLA when we were moshing and i blew out my knee. No ACL. You helped me walk 9 blocks after the show to the car. At some points outright carried me. I'll never forget you buddy as long as I live.
I bought this cd at the mall in Hawaii in '94. I had read about some side project Phil was doing called "Down" in a metal mag, one of the only ways to learn about new stuff in those days. I was immediately floored. Still have the original cd and listen to it all the time. This album will always be a staple for me, and for so many others. My favorite Down lineup too btw.
Charlie as cool as the Internet is. I miss those days. Researching bands in magazines, fanzines, tape trade or word of mouth. Exactly how I found Down, COC, EYEHATEGOD and many more.
I remember when I first heard this song when I picked up this album when it first came out and my jaw dropped to the floor and I've been a fan ever since
Same here! Bought it on release date. Must be in 1995 or so - still listening and it didnt get old to that day! NOLA was such a masterpiece and it was a cool project about his drug addiction. Brothethood of eternal sleep!
I was working in the local Dodge dealership and found this in a trade in,just the CD no jacket no case popped it in the stereo and was floored. It became our bon fire beer drinking go to CD. FUCK IM OLD
Me too. For several years I couldn’t listen to this album because I was hooked on oxy’s when it first came out. It’s good to be alive, clean, and enjoying this kick ass album again. Goddamn!
Man, that first Down album was hands-down their best. The Black Sabbath and Saint Vitus influence was all over that record, and Kirk and Pepper played / wrote one kick-ass riff after another. All the Down albums after that seemed to fall a bit short in that regard, and while they were good, they weren't great like that first album was.
Agreed, my main issue is their production. For some reason, it just doesn't click for me. Although down 3(idk the official name, right now) was pretty good
@@Aymungoos this three years later, but im mostly talking about their production in the follow ups to Nola, but my comment still stands for me personally
Down II is overall their best album. NOLA is heavier which makes it more appealing to the average fan. The second album really showcased more of Down's influences. The bluesy "Robin Trower" feel of Down II & III really made them stand out from their peers.
Just recently hipped myself to these fellas, and couldn't believe how great this first album is. I bought Down 2 and 3 also, and they are both really good, especially Over the Under, but the first one is just something special. The way lifer follows Temptations Wings is so badass.
Great albums, some of my all time favorites, years later on a listen of another favorite album, the only album from Floodgate, Penalty, I realized how much they were in the same vein
Down is really special to my sludge metal mad heart. ❤️ Always loved this band greatly. NOLA is a swell record. And Down II is even better. Phil was at his best in this band.
I agree that NOLA is an amazing album but that Phil was at his best in Down? I don't think so, Phil was at his prime in Pantera, Far Beyond Driven era Especially
My dad showed me this when he got out of a 5 year sentence. Fly high pops you knew the best metal always! I can run through a wall right the fuck now this is the best metal song ever
Salute to anyone still listening.
Til the day I die...
Always will have Nola on the Playlist 😉
Hell yeah so fucking heavy🤘🤘🤘🤘

It's 2024. It's on my playlist, and it fu***** rocks! My ears are filled to the brim with the groove!

Dope shit! 🔥🙏🏻💪🏻💯💞
Nice! So do you know if it’s just all old footage on tape that is stretched, or I wonder if that’s an effect ?
Phil is the definition of badass! I don't care what anyone says. Sweet song, hell of a band.
If you opened up a can of whoop ass PHIL ANSELMO would come out of it swinging!

Definitely one of the best southern-metal albums of all time, and NOLA is right there with it, along with CoC's albums with Pepper on vocals.
It's probably THE best, no offense to Pepper and CoC
@@ShunkLunkable I believe this album is the definition of Southern Metal

Always a fan. Tgis track also has a very Sabbath-esque sound with the guitars...it's exquisite.
