nothing wrong with any of the classic vibe stock pickups. they all sound great to me. everyone thinks that by automatically replacing the pickups, their guitar will sound better. use your ears and don’t be afraid to adjust your tone control s on your amp.
Before buying any guitar, try it out in the store first unplugged and then if possible on an acoustic amp. You will have the real sound of your instrument. Afterwards, you can test with the amp of your choice. If you don't like the sound, choose a more expensive one. It will be less expensive than changing the pickups.
I am playing Fender Strats over 20 Years and the Classic Vibe 60's is excellent. Changed the Vibrato Springs, set it up and works perfekt and easy. The rest of the Guitar is still Stock, plays and sounds better than some Fender Strats I had🤘🏻
I found one of the first gen (2008) version of this guitar and I absolutely love it. I really can’t stress how good it sounds. Maybe I just like the cheap pickup grit, but these things sound good. I have several $$$$ acoustics and then this guitar is sitting right next to it.
I was convinced that I needed to swap the pickups out of my 50s CV Strat, but I decided to try swapping out the pots, switch and jack first. So I bought a pre-wired assembly from 920D and put it in. It has a couple of caps on it (not sure what the values are). After getting that swapped in, it really brought the thing to life. I tweaked the pickups heights around as well. The tone was great, but the sustain was really weak, so I put a full-sized tremolo block in it and a new set of GraphTech bridge saddles. I have to say, now that I've gotten it to where it is, it's the one that gets picked up and played 95% of the time. I sold my MiM Strat and picked up one of the Squier Bullet HT Strats for a string-through conversion project, and that got the same treatment. Stock pickups, 920D pre-wired electronics, etc. Sounds incredible. We are truly living in the golden age of inexpensive gear, and I'm 100% here for it!
Amazing timing on this video. I have been following Worship Tutorials for years. 3 days ago, I took in a MIM Fender Tele for a setup as the intonation was off. I got talking to the tech and he was selling a modded 60's Squire Strat in Sunburst. I instantly fell in love with the look and finish so I made another wise hasty decision (#sarcasm) and paid his full asking price. I absolutely love this guitar. It fits perfectly and is the easiest guitar I have ever played. The tone for Tauren Wells "Known" is perfect on this thing.
I own a Squire 60s Vibe Jazz master and a 60s Vibe Strat, These pick ups Are grand. These guys obviously were not happy with just one lollipop when they got one when they were young. Granted, we all chase, but these are gig worthy out of the box!!
My favorite personal guitar is a basic Squire Strat. I paid $35 for it. The body has great tone! I replaced the tuners with locking ones. I replaced all of the electronics; the most important were noiseless single-coils in neck and middle positions, and single-coil sized humbucker at the bridge. I added two switches, one allows me to have the neck pickup on in any of the 5-way positions, and the other lets me choose between the North and South poles or normal humbucker. I also added two more springs to the tremolo bridge as it wasn't holding tune very well. I get incredible sound from it. All told, I'm into it maybe $300. P.S. I couldn't find the setup video referenced at 9 minutes in the description.
I just picked one of these up after hearing the hype. I gotta say after owning player series Strats this model is definitely a great buy👍👍this feels like a real Strat honestly and sounds great. The Alnico pickups are boss💯 Don’t hesitate to purchase one.
Great series! I bought a used HSS 70s version and upgraded the bridge and tuners to Wilkinson, put a 920d harness in it w a Duncan 59 hybrid HB in the bridge and its a great guitar for worship. With all the boutique qear out there being pushed this episode and the one on Brian's Epiphone upgrades are spot on for most of us that can't afford the custom builds out there. Thanks guys
I bought this guitar just after you guys did. It’s crazy what a little elbow grease will do to take a guitar to the next level. Incredible instrument for the money. I’ll upgrade along the way. Can’t wait to see what 920D does to her.
Hi, I really would like to buy this guitar. Can you please tell me how the whammy bar works? The guitar stay in tune? And the action? Is It pretty good? I play since 3 years, do you think It Is a good guitar for me? Thank you.
Super underrated guitar IMO with some new pickups and setup. The classic vibe guitars are perfect for modding. I have a '50s classic vibe strat in Olympic White that I got back in 2012. The Olympic White version is nearly impossible to find, and sell for a decent amount of money if you have one. I did the Brewster wiring/pickups with Area 58 and 61 after I got it. Still sounds killer and surprises me every time I play it after 6 months of being in the case.
I love swapping pickups and tweaking stuff just as much as I love playing, so I know where you're coming from. But, if you pick up another inexpensive guitar, try swapping in a pre-wired control panel from 920D or another reputable manufacturer and need around with the pickup heights on the stock pups. I was amazed at how good the stock pickups sounded on my 50s CV Strat with the new pots, caps, switch, jack and pickup height adjustments. What's more, even if you still don't like the stock pickups after that, you can still swap them out for another set, *AND* the controls/electronics have been upgraded to match 🤷♂️. On another note, I ordered an Oscar Schmidt (subsidiary of Washburn) Telecaster knockoff for $89 shipped to my door(!). I expected to get a guitar that would need a lot of attention out of the box, and it definitely did need some attention in the form of correcting fret sprout, adjusting intonation, action, softening the fretboard edges, etc. Once I got it set up to the point of being able to play it comfortably, it was pretty impressive with the stock pickups, electronics, tuners, etc. After a couple months, the stock bridge pickup shit the bed, so I decided to completely overhaul the thing. It now has a 920D control assembly, a Wilkinson bridge plate, GraphTech saddles/nut/string tree, Fender vintage split-post tuners, Fender Custom Shop Texas Special pickups, and a custom-made roasted flame maple neck that I commissioned a local luthier to build (9.5"-12" compound radius, 21 stainless medium jumbo frets, neck profile modeled after the Classic Vibe Strat neck). Yes, it cost me a bit of money to completely rebuild an $89 guitar, but the process was fun and it plays & sounds as well as any Telecaster I've played 🤷♂️
I already had a Classic Vibe 50's Strat when I ran across a Classic Vibe 60's Strat in a pawn shop. It was thrown in with several cheap Squier Strats, the kind that sold for $150 new and included a small amp. The shop didn't know what they had, and I walked out the door with the Classic Vibe for $100, which included the tax. It's a triple-tone sunburst with a tortoise-shell pickguard. Both my Classic Vibes are about ten years old (or more). The 60's model has the rosewood neck. And both have the alder bodies, which used to be standard on these guitars. I have owned a couple of Mexican Strats, and I like the Classic Vibes better. These things are selling for about $450 now, even though they are made with lower quality woods now. I don't know if there has been any compromises on the pickups from the earlier ones. BTW, I like the pickups on both guitars and wouldn't both upgrading them. This includes the bridge. I like that bright-clear sound. Nice contrast. I think I like the middle pickup the most.
I love Squier guitars. For the money I think you get something that is very playable and sounds great! I use a stock Classic Vibe Custom Tele at church and love the tone! Love the neck on that strat!
Agreed. The used to be just OK - if you got a good one. That was a lot of years ago. But what you get today, for the cash.... is pretty amazing. This one is a little more expensive, but man... these guitars rock, and are super high quality - and to me.... better than the Player Series Strats. In fact, for me.... it's not even close. These get a better treatment before coming out on to the rack. My 2 cents.
At 22:00, you guys mention the “right Strat bridge pickup” sounding great. I would say that the Silver Sky has become my favorite Strat period, and the bridge pickup on that rules!
I bought a CV 60s three years ago (in Burgundy Mist with matching headstock) and it's one of my best guitars. It was good out of the box but I must admit that I have done quite a lot of mods to it since I bought it in order to personalize it and make it even better. This includes: - New wooden pickups - New electronics with 1000K/500K pots and a bigger capacitor wired so that one tone control is now a blender pot and the other is a general tone control which works for all pickups - Shielded cavity with copper tape - New scratch plate in purple anodized aluminum (polished down so the color now matches the guitar) - New tremolo bridge with a bigger block made out of brass - Roller saddles - Graph Tech string tree
Indeed a great guitar with incredible playability at any price. Okay, I've a bias having a CV 50s (alder) from 2013. Original p'ups (alnico III) were by Tonerider at the time. Nato wood is close to mahogany in looks, tone, and species. Some of the purists might complain about that.
I haven't watched the whole video yet, but it is important to say That the classic vibe guitars are not built like they used to be. Going back to 2018, they started using alternate woods. Between 2009 and 2016 they had real rosewood, they had real solid alder two-piece bodies for the clear finishes. The fretboard woods started to change and then they started using alternate body woods. If you are a Strat fan, check out the NF3 by PRS SE.
Great review. I still have my very first guitar which was the Squier standard strat. Great playing guitar, nicely roadworn now and evening though I have a collection of expensive guitars now I still go back to that old strat! This has given me some ideas to mod it with some gold foil pickups for something a little different to my other strats and have some fun with it!
I wish I could send this video to so many of my beginner guitarist friends. You can get so much done if you’re interested in committing to a particular axe and not worrying about resale. Y’all still have that BOSS Epi Les Paul around right? She getting some play time these days?
I scored a mid-90s Epiphone in ruby sparkle a couple of years ago that still gets a ton of play, but my guitar rack is full of Squiers, kit guitars, and SEs, so I'm not the best person to ask.
No because this is worth the price. The player strat isn't. The player costs what it does because fender is slapped onto it...most over-rating guitar I've played. Either stick with CVs or get an American Professional...the "in-between" is not actually in-between quality
I just purchased the same model open box for about 200 bucks, definitely great value at that price. The person before me I think did not know how to set it up or just messed up. The setup all had to do is do some readjustments and it plays darn good. Did some fretwork on the guitar nut and adjusted the saddles and the neck relief and this thing is playing great. The stock electronics and pickups are solid. Since I got the guitar pretty inexpensively I am tempted to upgrade but there's no need to. Maybe if I come across a really good deal and some used custom pickups I might just upgrade but I'm happy as is
If you buy a 60 strat expect it will sounds like one. This guitar sounds great no need to change pick ups. If you want a heavier sounding guitar buy a another type guitar. You probably want humbuckers.
They are decent guitars, alnico 3 pick ups, much lower output than 5's that are in the MIM and and USA Fender but tonally they are fine. Pick ups are a matter of preference. The vintage style tuners are not great and the other hardware is generic. that doesn't mean it sucks. It means it's not a fender product because it's not as well made. If you can get past those 3 issues it can be as good as a fender in your mind.
Great video. I bought a CV '50s and I didn't like the bridge pickup either. There was a problem with the guitar neck, so I got to replace it with a CV '70s HSS. The guitar seems to sound darker but after some EQ tweaking, I'm getting the tone to where I'm pretty happy with it. Looking forward to hearing the difference on your guitar after the mods.
Awesome guitar, curious to see what you think when the Triple Shots go in. (Love them!) 1 other thing that is worth checking out on the bridge(/tuning stability) is how tight the bridge is to the body. I like to loosen the screws, then slowly tighten until they barely start pushing the bridge down. This will result in the bridge being able to freely move with the motion of the tremolo arm, and having the space to recover to it's original position!
I have the same exact guitar, which I haven't modded in any way. I like it better than my two MIMs. Squier is kicking the shit out of Fender on both quality and price point.
I own this exact guitar and honestly once I pick it up I can't put it down. I really like it it plays great I don't think I will mod it its great as is
@@Taylor-dl2kr my go to tone are clean tones and i love it. The only position I dont use really is the bridge on its own but posish 2 3 4 and 5 are great. I have a fender blues Jr IV great amp and pairs great with this guitar. For 399 you absolutely cannot go wrong.
@@guitarswhiskeyandgolf I feel that. I’ve been contemplating whether I do or do not actually want to buy a strat. I love my schecter banshee 6. It’s close to a strat but isn’t as twangy plus I have a Floyd Rose bridge on it. 24 extra jumbo frets too. If I put it in position 4 though (middle and bridge) and use my coil tap..I can get pretty twangy strat sounds
I have bought a 2008 Classic Vibe 60s and 2015 Classic Vibe 50s Stratocasters, and 2012 and 2018 Classic Vibe 50s Butterscotch Telecasters all made in China. The 60s Stratocaster had Tone Rider Classic Blues Vintage Pick ups and were great. I dont know what was in the 50s Stratocaster, but sounded great. Both Telecasters had really good pick ups, no need to change them. I found that now there both being made in Indonesia, especially the Telecasters, they are now not period correct, neck pick up adjustable above the pick guard, the Button string tree has move towards the nut, Chrome saddles instead of brass, and flat control knobs. The China Telecasters were made by AXL who make high end guitars, not sure where the Strats are made in China. I can honestly say the guitars made in China pre 2018 before the transition are quality made instruments and used by some proffessional musicians. Andertons in Guildford in the UK did a blindfold test on RUclips, both Chappers and the Captain, picked the Classic Vibe Telecaster, thought it were a Fender Custom Shop Telecaster.
Personally the tremolo would be the first mod. That will directly relate to the physical resonance of the guitar. If the tuners are a problem that may be first. Before pickups a great volume pot would help with even taper if you like to use the volume.
Good to hear the bridge pick-up actually already *is* hooked up to one of the Tone pots! It'd be an easy mod', but it's one I'd still had to do on a MIA 'Highway One' Strat I once owned. My Brother is planning to buy this 'Classic Vibe' Squier, in 3-tone Sunburst 🙂
These guitars are great! Although, the tuning on all these examples show how a cheap guitar compares to something with good tuners and a good bridge...if it still sounds this out, I can’t imagine how out it sounded even before he worked on it! After upgrading some hardware, it’s going to be a killer instrument!
Fender nailed it. I love the Squire Strat. They seem to be lighter and a bit more feminine than the regular Strats. Many great players prefer them. Or if not a Squire, the Chinese Strats can be great too. But they won't sound like this one in the video which sounds like a real vintage 62 Strat. Nice video. The playing volume was a lot louder than the speaking volume though.
I'm rly yearning for this, already have the mustang and its great. Ready for a full scale again, the jazzmaster was disappointing and extremely thin sounding.
I own a Sonic Squier in HSS and like it alot. Its an honest reasonable quality Strat. Mine is made in Indonesia if that makes a difference, I dunno.Might need some better tuners and a decent pick up set.Good Base for a upgrade build. For this price range of guitars I think more money on a decent amp pays more dividends.
They really are good platforms. I’ve bought two and put SSS vmod loaded pickguards and HSS vmod/shawbucker loaded pickguards and better tuners. Very happy with them
Once the upgrades are done please try to recreate the same demos using the same patches so we can compare/contrast the tones before and after the upgrades.
Have you lost your mind, who in the world say that... the CV sounds amazing! It's out performing the American Strat, but I wouldn't worry about it too much!
I feel the same way with Strat bridge pickups. Kind of thin and harsh. But I have played some Alnico II pickups that did sound nice and a bit more tame. Also Alnico III that sounded great.
Curious …. You mention raising the pups which Is somewhat a personal preference at a certain point . My query is , since the bridge pup is to bright for your ears (and through my headphones t it did get a bit ice picky)…. Why not try lowering it back down some to even it out ? Admittedly I sort of skipped through this vid as I already have a lefty sunburst version so maybe I missed you explaining this ….( I’m skimming and searching to find resistance / power stats for the pups )… to decide if I change em which way to go , or to compare stats when I research possible replacements .. great review and I basically agree with everything youve said .
I reviewed one as well. I let it go because I had a 2015 already I loved. Wanted to Guage differences. The older China feels a bit better but not too sure thats just my love bias of it. Lol. Mine has player pups. But stock sounds amazing.
I just got one. pickups are a taste thing but nobody in the audience cares what’s in your guitar or what you’re using. They just wanna hear good music. It’s ultimately up to ya fingers and knowledge to produce a good sound.
I have one of the early ones with the toneriders, put the Wilkinson wvo1 bridge with full block and the vintage ezlock tuners it was great. Then I I got a custom pickgaurd from gombrellis and still have less than the cost of an mim.
I just tried this guitar at the store and the neck feels so much better than the players neck, leaner, easier to play chords, sound feels warm and full, and the guitar is lighter making the players feel heavy…. The neck gloss looks 100x more high end than the plain unfinished necks. Edit : price $459 from $350 ? Not buying this guitar anymore.
The volume control for the bridge pickup is the saving grace. It really does tame the Strat screech. My 70s CV Strat has the newer Fender-Designed Alnico pickups. No ceramics. I still use 'em & have no plans to change them out. They do what I need & I like them better than my MIM Fender.
If it's "crafted in China" one, then body is alder and fingerboard is really rosewood. In 2019 the specs has changed, but it seems that you have the older one (some say they were better than new Indonesian ones). I bought 2008 cv 60's and it's first strat guitar that I like. 🙂
I have also an older squier model with big fat headstock, awesome original pickups in it, great sound, every jam session i play with it people tought it was a fender strat. Cause it looks and sounds soo good
My experience is squier routes to be able to easily mod, which makes sense, as they can save production costs by routing everything the same and then slapping in whatever they want. I can't say for sure on this particular model though.
Yes but no. Price of guitar has come a long way, you can get good enough quality guitar for under 200 dollar. However quality do varries on different price point, 200dollar vs 300dollar, huge different, 300 to 500 huge different. The higher you go, the less difference. Difference -tuning -intonations -electronics (huge difference on the lower end side) -construction percision Also, 100dollar vs 200dollar acoustic guitar. HUGE difference.
nothing wrong with any of the classic vibe stock pickups. they all sound great to me. everyone thinks that by automatically replacing the pickups, their guitar will sound better. use your ears and don’t be afraid to adjust your tone control s on your amp.

This has given me some ideas to mod it with some gold foil pickups for something a little different to my other strats and have some fun with it!
I recorded orange flower (banjo cover) today can you watch it and reply to me please like now 😀
This is my dream budget guitar, I saw the blue and I was like dang
I wish I could send this video to so many of my beginner guitarist friends. You can get so much done if you’re interested in committing to a particular axe and not worrying about resale.
Y’all still have that BOSS Epi Les Paul around right? She getting some play time these days?
I scored a mid-90s Epiphone in ruby sparkle a couple of years ago that still gets a ton of play, but my guitar rack is full of Squiers, kit guitars, and SEs, so I'm not the best person to ask.
@@StevenAlwine I find the low acquisition cost makes for more opportunities for upgrade.

I love the look and sound of this guitar. With the $500-$600 worth of upgrades they talk about, are you just better off starting with a player strat?
same thought, locally its $200 difference from a MIM, thinking if worth just going to player strat with less setup and mods required
Yes
Maybe if I come across a really good deal and some used custom pickups I might just upgrade but I'm happy as is
As a bone stock squier cv...it sounds so good. I can’t wait to hear it after the mods. Lambertone...that’s the tone ticket😎
Thank you for this!! A lot of us that watch your videos want but can’t afford the guitars you use. Please let us know more good less expensive guitars
Thanks for this and the setup demo. Upgrading this (with pickups) would put the price beyond the Player series.
If you buy a 60 strat expect it will sounds like one. This guitar sounds great no need to change pick ups. If you want a heavier sounding guitar buy a another type guitar. You probably want humbuckers.
I like Brian's playing.

I was amp shopping/comparing two Fender amps at my local shop and used this exact guitar. Absolutely blew me away
I just bought one of those and mine is made in Indonesia.
Helloo. Im from indoooo
Awesome guitar, curious to see what you think when the Triple Shots go in. (Love them!)
1 other thing that is worth checking out on the bridge(/tuning stability) is how tight the bridge is to the body.

So you have a mim and you like better the squire cv?
Interesting and confusing
I'm semi beginner and I'm trying to understand how is that possible
I was pleasantly surprised by this guitar when I played one.
I own this exact guitar and honestly once I pick it up I can't put it down. I really like it it plays great I don't think I will mod it its great as is
How are the cleans? Because all of these sounded like crunch tones to me tbh hard to get a good judgement
I'm excited to see that guitar after being modified
I had a Great Uncle Laurel. He was high quality.
Bridge pickup on a strat sounds thin and harsh for cleans, but that kind of sound really works with overdrive/distortion.
Great playing
Fender nailed it. I love the Squire Strat. They seem to be lighter and a bit more feminine than the regular Strats. Many great players prefer them. Or if not a Squire, the Chinese Strats can be great too. But they won't sound like this one in the video which sounds like a real vintage 62 Strat. Nice video. The playing volume was a lot louder than the speaking volume though.
I bought one to mod, but after rolling the neck and some fret work I think its great.
I am pretty sure that 2023 model 60's has changed the placid blue colour a little bit. It is much like a plastic right now.
Very happy with them
Great review! Sub'd
BUT y'all say you're sending it to 290D (or whatever) for upgrades but don't update...
I'm thinking about getting my son one of these as a beginner
That's a good idea, it's always better for a beginner to start on a better quality instrument.
Once the upgrades are done please try to recreate the same demos using the same patches so we can compare/contrast the tones before and after the upgrades.
Have you lost your mind, who in the world say that... the CV sounds amazing! It's out performing the American Strat, but I wouldn't worry about it too much!
Thinking about one of these or the 70's one. I could be swayed simply by that blue colour.
Great playing and review, would you recommend this guitar for live gigs and recording?
Can you do whammy flutters on the Tremolo and how does it stay in tune ?
Ile bet it doesn't stay in tune ....
I reviewed one as well. I let it go because I had a 2015 already I loved. Wanted to Guage differences. The older China feels a bit better but not too sure thats just my love bias of it. Lol. Mine has player pups. But stock sounds amazing.
Have you guys tried the newer Classic Vibe 60s with the humbucker? I'd be interested to see your review on them too.
Fantastic video what amp are you using and pedals
I just got one. pickups are a taste thing but nobody in the audience cares what’s in your guitar or what you’re using. They just wanna hear good music. It’s ultimately up to ya fingers and knowledge to produce a good sound.
These are great even beyond the price point. But chill with the effects for a second, let’s hear what it sounds like
I love the sound
Nice effect at 10 minute mark , it sounds a bit like U2
99 % effects 1 % guitar clean tone. Clap
Yes, that is a shame. It sounds great, it really does, but this doesn't do it justice.
Since the Mexican player series now cost close to $900, it seems like the classic vibe is the best bang for your buck strat in this price range now
Oh Guys, I have the USA-Strat ('91) in this blue. And many other Fender & Gibson - but the '91 is my Number ONE!
I have a 2015 cv strat and a 1999 AS strat.... I play the cv for most live shows. It's a work horse. I keep the america standard for at home.
Great tones there! Can you share what pedals/amps you are using?
I have one of the early ones with the toneriders, put the Wilkinson wvo1 bridge with full block and the vintage ezlock tuners it was great. Then I I got a custom pickgaurd from gombrellis and still have less than the cost of an mim.
I know I’m asking a lot, but is it possible to review in the Squier Classic Vibe Jazzmaster too? Or maybe the J Mascis model?
The Classic Vibe Butterscotch Tele sounds better than the MIM Fenders imho. The CV’s are solid solid guitars
How did you create the tone for the second playing sample?
New Sterling Cutlass CT50 will be the new contender to CV Strat
If it's "crafted in China" one, then body is alder and fingerboard is really rosewood. In 2019 the specs has changed, but it seems that you have the older one (some say they were better than new Indonesian ones). I bought 2008 cv 60's and it's first strat guitar that I like. 🙂
I have also an older squier model with big fat headstock, awesome original pickups in it, great sound, every jam session i play with it people tought it was a fender strat. Cause it looks and sounds soo good
Tone? Play it clean so we can hear it. They're good guitars. Not an American strat but they're damn good for the price.
Hi may i know is it easy to sweep pick and shred? seem to be easy to shred and sweep on the neckn. any recommendation on this guitar ???
So squier classic vibes or Fender player series? ( strats )
I would upgrade electrictronics and put a lambertone grinder in the bridge.
Most Strats whether budget or expensive don’t have the rounded smooth body curves this guitar has, maybe a custom 50s.
How do you get that sound you got in the video
Have you reviewed the upgrades yet?
Gah! What is that song in the intro? Right on the tip of my brain...
Nothing intentionally ha
What helix patched was used?
Does anyone know how this is routed? Can you convert to an HSS?
Buy a HSS
My experience is squier routes to be able to easily mod, which makes sense, as they can save production costs by routing everything the same and then slapping in whatever they want. I can't say for sure on this particular model though.
It's a good Platform to start.
what effects are you running it through to make the sound
It looks nice. It sounds nice but does it feel nice?
Delay review or guitar rw?
It’s not really the quality of the guitar it’s the player.
Well...both are important I’d say hah
Yes but no. Price of guitar has come a long way, you can get good enough quality guitar for under 200 dollar. However quality do varries on different price point, 200dollar vs 300dollar, huge different, 300 to 500 huge different. The higher you go, the less difference.
Difference
-tuning
-intonations
-electronics (huge difference on the lower end side)
-construction percision
Also, 100dollar vs 200dollar acoustic guitar. HUGE difference.
Is this your first Squier?
