  • This is the TenTec Omni D version C HF SSB transceiver, the latest version Ten Tec made of this model. The transceiver stems from the early eighties and is all solid-state. The radio covers all ham bands including WARC and 160 meter. It is an excellent performer. The receiver has excellent dynamic range with great sounding reception. The Omni receiver has one of the best AGC actions I have ever experienced in any HF radio. Sensitivity and selectivity are can compete with anything on the market today. The transmitter has superb talk power thanks to a very good speech processor, which creates a very high average modulation level without introducing any audio distortions on the modulated signal. To sum it all up: One of the best HF radios Ten Tec ever made.

I believe it was 1989 when I had visited Ten Tec with plans to purchase a Paragon. I was in the demo room playing with a Paragon when Jack Burchfield came and struck up a conversation. On this particular Day, Al Kohn was in town and Jack asked me if I would care to join them for lunch.WOW!!!! We went to a small deli and sat there for an hour. When we were ready to leave, I asked Jack, out of all of the radios Ten Tec had brought to market what was his favorite. He immediately said the OMNI D series.. I have the Omni D version D and C and I have to agree, the Omni D is a wonderful radio to operate. It has very nice audio and has very quiet QSK. It too has become my favorite Ten Tec radio.
Thanks for doing this very well done video on an exceptional radio.

That radio sure is MINT! Very nice. The Omni C was my first 100 watt rig that I bought and I logged over 3500 CW QSO's with it. Worked the world and achieved DXCC with it too. Since then I've added more TenTec gear to my collection. Orion, Pegasus DSP, and Rebel QRP.. (Hopefully an Omni 7 soon!) Very nice video presentation, thanks! -W3ATT

I’ve had one since about 1983. The only problem has been oxidation on the crystal sockets. The osc wouldn’t start and the display showed 9 Mhz. I cleaned the sockets and it’s been great.

Excellent video. I have been interested in Amateur Radio for over 40 years.... Always too intimidated to actually get my license and transmit. After watching this, you answered many of the concerns I had. Will be buying American in the future. Thank you!!

wonderful rigs... I have Omni D with digital display and only classical bands and Omni D/C with digidisplay and all band incl. WARC... I think their plus is a very good reception, quite alike to a Drake (of which I also own 2.... SPR-4 and 2B with 2CQ multiplier/loudspeaker... all best US made rigs...

Excellent video, if I didn't already have one I would want one! I bought my Omni-C new in 1982 when I was very keen on 40 metre DXing. There wasn't much on the market that could touch it for receiver performance. I still have it along with the later Omni-V and Omni-VI+, but the Omni-C is still my favourite. I use it with a Shure 444 mic and a homebrew RF speech processor.I get many unsolicited comments about the nice modulation. I re-greased the PTO and the slug rack a few years ago. The band crystal for 80 metres has stopped oscillating for some reason, but that's the first electrical problem since 1982.

A Omni C is my main rig as I mainly operate CW, even though I have a FT-897D and others.
I have the DDS mod kit, but never installed it.

The Notch is in the audio line, same as the audio filter however it is also ahead of the agc detector so it acts like an RF notch as does the cw audio filter.

Have the Omni A (analog) - also Triton IV analog, the Alda 103 analog, Ten tec remote vfos - all analog. I think there's a pattern here! But your description of the Omni very excellent. Wish other vids on RUclips were as good as yours relative to gear demos.

Where do you get all of these *_phenomenal_* radios?
I get the impression that you are looking to sell these wonderful rigs, but there is no information here about how to contact you if someone wants to make a purchase.

Where does the Morse key plugin.

The Morse key plugs into the back of the radio. It uses an RCA male type plug instead of the standard 1/4” or 3.5mm male plug.
