    New yam festival is now even celebrated in the African Diaspora by the descendants of those who experienced the Maafa.

    What about the young men carrying a cow and pulling the roots of a tree up? And the stories about a young man honouring his whose father died

    Wow, this is good you know. Another reason being that when people go to farm then, the lazy ones will not participate. Thus, they found this ceremony as a reward for hard work and a way of encouraging lazy people to farm. In my dialect we say ‘mgbawara onye aka oku’; meaning, I did not stop anybody from working hard.
