Bovi is not ignoring Ali Baba’s role. It’s more like the case of record label owner and it’s rockstar artist.
Stand up comedy became popular in Nigeria from the 90’s through ‘Night of a thousand laughs’ (shows, tapes, cd’s etc) which began its establishment as an industry and it was founded by Opa Williams.
And it was through the ‘Night of a thousand laughs’ platform Ali Baba became a house hold name in Nigeria.
Ali Baba is considered King of comedy not because he began the comedy industry, but because he used his fame and fortune from the ‘nights of a thousand laughs’ to scout, train, and support almost every other big comedian today to make it into the limelight and do their own thing or at least you are helped by one of those Ali raised.
In summary: Opa Williams was like the record label owner and Ali Baba his rockstar artist.
Even Ali acknowledges Opa Williams role.

Anyways here it is: I would say Of course in the 90’s Ali made some appearances and cameos both on tv and radio shows with Bisi Olatilo, Danladi Bako etc
But does appearing on tv now translate to establishing an industry?
Secondly at that time there were very few tv stations with limited reach and limited airing time as well in Nigeria.
And Ali was based in Lagos at that time, so even if he appeared on tv in Lagos, it was little likely people in other states got to see him as well. Plus other states and their tv, radio stations also had their own comedy shows and comedians. For example if you grew up in old plateau state, you most likely know the name of the comedian and presenter ‘waka-about’ than the name Ali Baba. And if you grew up in North-north you are most likely to be familiar with the late hausa comedian 'Ibro'.
Ask any northerner who grew up in the north from 80’ and 90’s if they knew Ali Baba then from tv?
Tv, radio got Ali’s talent to be noticed. But Night of a thousand laughs made him a household name in Nigeria.
And I hope you know Ali’s tv appearances and Nights of a thousand laughs establishment was in the same 90’s?
So by saying Ali appeared on tv for many years before night of a thousand laughs , how many years are these many years you speak of?
And the comedy industry I speak of is only ‘stand up comedy’ in particular even, because Ali certainly did not begin comedy in Nigeria, in fact in the same 90’s the biggest names on tv when it came to comedy in Nigeria were the likes of ‘Jaguar’. Ali’s name was not even in the conversation ( no disrespect intended).
And after the eras of Jaguar and his likes, when it came to home videos Okey Bakassi and Nkem Owoh’s Pam Pam Pam did much more in establishing comedy in home videos in Nigeria, and then the Nkem Owoh’s and the Sam Loco’s took it even much further with the release of movies like Osuofia in London, to the likes of Aki & Paw paw etc.
Ali did not establish the comedy industry in Nigeria, he did his part and the industry honors him till tomorrow.
The father of Nigerian comedy and the first professional comic is John Chukwu.
He was already doing MC for the likes of IBB in the late 80s

When I was not smart enough I used to find Bovi jokes not interesting BUT I thank God today he is one of my top 3 comedians in Nigeria behind Oke Bakassi.

After watching this video, I finally realized that there are only two reasons why this tantalizing, exhilarating, gladdening and razzle- dazzling video would enhance different assertions.
One is the collective use of colloquial abstract representation of normative assertions owing to the distinction in regulatory and derogatory affirmative relations to binary patterns.
The second is that even I don't know what I said above and I've just wasted 20 seconds of your time.
So therefore, with that being said and all protocol duly observed, I hereby declare vawulence and maximum emotional dàmage.

It's really sad comedians in Lagos deliberately refuse or ignorantly decide not to recognize Uche Ogbuagu, who's doing comedy in Aba and elevated comedy in the 80s and 90s in cassettes way before I heard of Opa Williams, Ali Baba, Okey Bakassi etc. In fact Uche Ogbuagu was already so funny making people laugh at local level by 1983. He's naturally very comic and has done very in comedy way more than the comedians listed. You guys should update your records and understand that you don't have to relocate to Lagos for everything before you become successful in Nigeria.

Before you begin to fight for anybody, did Uche in anyway try identifying with this folks? Have you seen any show Uche invited these folks as a pioneer? Uche wanted a solo run, and that is what has placed him where he is. Mind you I'm not saying Uche isn't an exceptional dude, he is, but he needed to move with the train

You cannot tell me that the likes of Okey and Julius Agwu didn't know Uche before they ventured into this industry.
In the early days, some of these comedians were even using bits of Uche's materials on stage.
He simply deserves mention, but nobody dey force anybody.
