He was cut off @ 1:28 into the video when he was trying to explain that the car is good for mid sevens at 185mph. Reason being is because when you see the interior, he is not running a certified ten point cage, let alone a ten point cage period, which is mandatory at 8.50 so he is clearly holding back to avoid getting booted from the track. Killer car...
That and an old school LT-1 with a single turbo can't do 7's in the 1/4, there's just not enough power there to do it no matter how big the turbo is. That's well into the 1200+ HP range and those turbos don't make that much power to begin with. 1200hp from a LT-1 would blow it up in 2 passes even if it did make it. Also he doesn't have the cage like you said so whom ever this was that guy was full of shit.
Charlesbjtown I watched him make a pass on the street in broad daylight. Strung out high gear on the highway...fastest street car I've ever stood next to and watched go down the road.
Charles Cheatham This car is without question the most impressive truly legit street car in north America. Its been said that he's been 195 through the traps.

SilentOneCorajuda13 -.- seriously? and when car has a blower over the bonnet? on question whats under the hood what would you asnwer? and dont take funny talk up to every letter. oh, and one thing - hatch is only a way to close/enter the trunk/boot/luggage compartement etc. (its a bit like you would say "its not an engine bay, its a hood")
SilentOneCorajuda13 i had a 77 nova its considered a notchback because the rear window doesnt open with the trunk and thatd what makes a Camaro a hatchback
I keep having to come back to watch this video again, this car is cool. Anyone know what trans/converter is in it? I'm guessing a th400 with a nice converter.
Nice to see another non LS powered car. As an owner of an gen 2 LT1 powered Impala SS I know the potential these motors have. The early Optispark design and location gave these engines a bad rep. Once you fix those issues, it's as good as, if not, better than any other SBC.
Boots_And_Slicks14 totally truth, I own a 97 ws6 and after 347k finally gave up. I am working on it and is coming boost it as well with the original opti just to keep proofing that it works! !!
I have an N/A stroker lt1 and it runs solid 11's. people are always surprised that it's so fast 'for an lt1'. People give these motors alot of shit but once you open them up, they're actually very powerful and dependable. I've have a few of them and they definitely feel and sound like old school motors. The absolute worst design flaw with them tho is the opti.
I've always wanted to do something with my 95 Z28. But it is also the year between OBD1 and OBD2 which is an absolute nightmare to try and tune nowadays without taking it to a professional shop. I absolutely love the sound of the LT1 and the massive torque in first and second compared to the LS1.
Leave it to GM to use the same engine name 3 times. But hey, its much better than ford who cant even use the same transmission for a big block and small block.
@@jonathanlawson4667 Nope I worked at a Dyno shop had my 97 LT1 had 278HP at the wheels 99 LS1 was 310HP at the wheels. Crank would be 300HP for LT1 and 350HP for LS1.
I was always told the old LT1 cant go past 450-500 but this setup is the shit! Wow I dig it. Full interior and all. 👍 Hooks up, A/C!? street car done right. Eating up the Corvette killers 😁
andrew donohue they actually they have a lot of lt1 Camaro in pick & pull, i myself pull heads & intakes on 50% off day I have several sets good luck hunting💨💨💨
i like mine i tell people its a great engine but with a poor ignition system. does not make it bad engine though. as long as you keep the stupid opti dry and you are aware of it they arent as bad as their reputation either. i replaced mine once
A lot of people judge Lt1, always about there opti spark or vacuum leaks. There good motors as any ls1.. Its much more easier to build if you are on a budget. its nice to see people still build them
I like the LT1, but neither of those statements are true. They are heavier than the LS1, the heads on LS motors are far superior as are the internals and fuel/ignition systems, and the cost of LT1-specific heads make it more expensive to build. But thats just technology progressing as time went on, you can't fault the LT1 for that. the LT1 was out of the box superior to the majority of factory stock gen 1 SBCs and you can still make good power with them. I'm going LT1 in my '88 Trans Am over LS because fitment is easier and I only want around 350whp which is easily done with a fairly aggressive cam and bolt ons with stock heads and intake on an LT1.
Where i live thats all we see is lt1 its rare to see ls1 but for us its cheaper to build and plus its much easier to work on, already doing a semi build on my formula v8 just have a cam with spring valve and rockers and headers with cai and im beating ls1 and 5.0
ElteeMullet Yes. And you can go to 396 with an LT. Still a viable option for sure. Not to mention its lot plagued with the dreaded piston slap like the ls.
Still waiting on some more info on this car and driver . I know its old but it is still a bit refreshing to see someone kicking butt with a 2nd gen lt1 .
First year of the 4th gen LT is when I turned 16. I hate that they came out with the new LT so now that my LT's are now considered the old LT or the not so old LT as compared to the original LT. Makes since I think.
I have a turbo LT1 that makes 800+ to the tire. i was out at orlando speed world for SCT this year. 1320 didn't even bat an eye. lol BK34 did an interview but never featured the car.
yes this is an old video ... cool that it's an lt1.. love how he downplays it an old streetcar .... as an lt1 owners there is a lot more to this car than what he's telling that's a well-sorted engineered car even though he does not have a proper roll cage
The rear mount turbo will run cooler too cause it is under the car and not wedged in the hood by all the exhaust heat. I am thinking of doing this to my Vette.
I have watched every video and this caught my attention. Nice job. I would slay people with this in Hawaii. Jam there little rice burners down. Keep it up. Just gives us old school guys a new idea.

That’s why he was leaving pretty slow, probably launching at a lower rpm
If I had never seen this. That thought would have never crossed my mind. I was wondering why he was easing it so much off the launch.

I love that this is a street/drag car with all the amenities of a street car plus more.
Best car of the year. Guy seems pretty cool too.
Factory interior love it . Lt1 holding it down for the 90s
Love the sound of an old LT1.
-"what's under the hood?"

So truth, 97 and on vette started with ls.
Jonathan Vasquez hello, I got a LT1 with 56,000 miles, from Pontiac firebird ws6, some of them come like that.
Never better tthan a gen 1 . They have so much support you can virtually build any combo in any cubic inch in the world and do so dirt cheap.
Everybody trip'n if its an original LT1, it goes 8's. And its not an LS. Good ol sbc power.
Indeed this beast needs to be on drag week

Met him and his wife at the LTx Shootout and hotel party this year. Super nice people.
The original LT1 was a solid lifter 350 that came out in 1970. This is an LT1 like out of an early 4th gen f-body or C4 corvette.
Leave it to GM to use the same engine name 3 times.

meaning not a current lt1 from the c7

Technically, it's not an original LT1, but rather a 2nd gen LT1. The original was a particular 350 built in 70-72.
