I love the beginning of the video with the service truck leading those tractors down the road we had a very good perspective of actually how big that planter is
Billy did a masterful job being diplomatic about the three tractors strengths and weaknesses. But, I think the fact he's been in the Challenger the last 2 videos shows what his personal preference is. Please tell him and his family thank you for letting us all watch their operation. Very interesting and educational.
Thank you for watching. You are correct you will most often find Billy cruising at top speed in the Challenger. It’s the only non John Deere tractor on the farm. This is a 2019 MT875E that just replaced a similar 2017 MT875E. Billy has run a Challenger MT800 since 2006 trading every two years so this is Challenger number 8.
I bet every two years the challenger dealer is thinking this is the year I get the farmer to convert his fleet, this will be my best year ever!! Then the farmer is I will take one please.
Absolutely amazing another great video, wish it was as dry as that here in the UK everyone struggling to drill winter wheat and barley we have had so much rain. Keep saying it must come over the big pond to have a look. Regards from Lincolnshire UK.
This farm has a super nice setup and some very fine equipment. Mr. Billy sounds like a great man to work for. He mentioned the power hop on his 9620R wonder if he has looked into the LSW Goodyear ag tires?
Wonderful part 2. Watching the machinery go past on the road is very impressive. Inthe field you can see it's large equipment, however on the road it's massive taking up both lanes in each direction. How heavy are those Horst wheat planters ? It looks well built, heavy guage steel frames with large wheels. 600 bushels that grain cart is as large as a truck. Very nicely done. Pt 2 of interview in cab was interesting from his point of view and experience. Thoroughly enjoyed pt 2 BTP 🚜👍
Are they still running these same drills. I wonder if the Garnett's will have a need for the bigger 9RX 710,770, or 830, or if they are not interested in the bigger models? Don't know if they really have a need for them with their current implements? They have always run the biggest models available in the past.
Hi there. I enjoy watching your videos. I am from central Kansas. I am a custom sprayer applicator. What is a better tool to use- a high speed disc? Or a Kenzie diamond harrow? I want to know which one is better on rough ground like terraces or just plain rough ground.
It all really depends on what you want your seedbed to look like. Both are great tillage implements. The high speed disk will work up to 6 inches deep and really chop up stalks and work out ruts as well as wash outs. The Kelly only works 1.5 inches down. It will not remove wash outs. The Kelly will mix residue and break up stalks. It incorporates fertilizer well and knocks out tire traffic imprints. The Kelly never has to be raised on turns. A farm I know that runs a 45ft Kelly can stay 600 acres ahead of the corn planter with a days work.
Got a question about combines. What is the main factor why a farmer would buy a 9250 over a 8250? They seem to be the same except for the horsepower. Does a little higher HP really matter that much?
More horse power means allot in my opinion. Filming class 8 and 9 combines together in a field with the same heads I see the class 8 lag behind. In wheat both an 8 and 9 running 40ft heads side by side I feel like eating my arm to motion the 8 to hurry up because the 9 is pulling away fast. In corn with a 12 row head a nine just eats it and pours the grain out. An 8 does well but the 9 cover more acres in a day.
Yhst hs bery cool to now it is a family farm .great yo see the mean green.not fire about the cats as I have not ran any of them.hlad the family ket you film there farm too
Seeding in bulk has come along way. When I was a kid my neighbor ran a wooden box steel wheel McCormick drill on a Farmall M in the late 70s. Today he has a 30ft Case IH air still on a Case IH Steiger 335 HD. Farming has advanced allot. I do enjoy finding the classics.
That is volunteer corn. When they disked and it rained a bit the corn sprouted. The drills tear up most of the volunteer corn and frost in a few weeks will knock out the rest. They will apply herbicides next March to control grass and broadleaf weeds.
Not being a farmer. But I would love to ask the million dollar question. Is a lot of what brand you buy have to do with what DAD HAD? A lot to do what is a dealer thats close to the farm ? Does a brand have better this or that. And next year the other brand out due the others? I guess the answer is impossible maybe to answer. Like hay small square, large square and rolls.
Very surprised to see this farmer tracking beyond the center of the road when there was ample shoulder to move onto. Farmers in WNY will stay on the shoulders as much as possible to avoid crossing over the center of the road. Common courtesy.
This drill in 19ft wide folded up. You do not want to get it on the edge of the road with it and risk rolling it over. This road also had no out out let and had two lanes on the other side. It also had rained all morning so if he drive on the edge he would have brought up mud and left big ruts. I grew up near Rochester, NY. Where are you from?
They are doing this the expensive inefficient way. We do it very differently in Africa with a lot less machinery but hey, if it works for them, awesome.
Douglas Oakley we spread our wheat with a spreader (36m wise @ 10km/hr with a 210hp tractor) on top of our maize residue which has been chopped with chopping heads. We then run a VT or compact disk to lightly incorporate it in behind the spreader.
@@ZimFarm24 I would say your method is clearly cheaper, but much much uneven results you get there, beacause even emergence is one of the top things if you want top yealds like 10t/ha
siikais90 you are correct reference emergence. To counter this we spread a slighter higher rate than the guys who drill. Our yields are on par with guys who drill. The xtra capex/diesel costs are greater than the xtra kgs of seed per hectare. Not saying what they are doing is wrong, I just think there is a more efficient and cheaper way. If the neighbors were getting 2 ton more per Ha, I would jump on the seeder bandwagon tomorrow.

I did a little research and 11,000 acres of wheat should produce about 408,000 bushels of wheat on average, incredible .
Well here wheat normally hits around 90 to 100 bu per acre so it would yield over 1 million bushels.
I wonder why the have the blower for the air drill running during road transport?
It’s a whole starting process with a delay
They were only moving a half mile down the road.
Man I would work for nothing if I could run one of those we didn't plant much wheat ever, I think our steel wheeled grain drill was 8 ft,

jonathan tucker thanks for watching I cover 30 thousand acres sir.
I like the triples better than the big duels
Did that RX at the start have the fan turned on ?
It sure sounds like it did.
I think it was turned on
Saw some green in some areas of the field, is that grass or volunteer corn? Has it already been sprayed or do they come back and do that yet? Thanks!
It is volunteer corn. The drills plow allot up and frost will kill it off in a few weeks.
bigtractorpower thank you!
What kind of hours do they put on their line of equipment?
Most of the tractors will see 1,000 hours of use in a season. I will include some hours when I film the fleet completing fall tillage.

Who in the world can accumulate 11K acres. Was the farm built up over time - handed down through generations?
It dates back to the 1800’s. They over crop 33,000 acres per year. It is a family farm with 3 generations involved in the farm work every day.
