Our next “patient” was recently diagnosed with Graves’ disease 👀. She received truly excellent care by her endocrinology team. Unfortunately, her condition was found to be refractory to medical management, and she was referred to us for consideration of a thyroidectomy.
.
We dove through the strap muscles and successfully avoided injury to the recurrent laryngeal nerves... but the highlight of the case for my 3-year old was ‘discovering’ a parathyroid gland on our specimen, mincing it (enough to make @gordongram proud), and then auto-implanting it back into our patient’s sternocleidomastoid. That was pretty cool 😎
