His family didnt want the pistol in the house. They are not worthy to be his progeny, nor worthy of the courage he summoned. Must be real proud of themselves.
Hey there, a pleasure to see you again. Again a lot of deeply researched history. Thank you. But, if I remember well, this safety is named: "Schiwy Sicherung", "Schiwy Safety" named after the inventor Ludwig Schiwy.
Not necessarily, yes, the cutout on the receiver was for the fitting of the artillery Luger rear sight. Erfurt however made this cut on all Luger receivers therefore the only way to tell if it started out life as an artillery Luger is by serial number.
It doesn’t happen as often as I’d like but acquiring items directly from the vets family is a real treat. I always assure them their item will be taken good care of and a cherished part of my collection.
Tom on WW2 bombers the gunners were enlisted and the rest of the crew were either commissioned or warrant officers!! i'd watch that series according to the US bombers channel it's riddled with inaccuracies!!!
They were flight officers and wore a variation of the warrant officer insignia What made them unique is that they were promoted to 2LT and became commissioned officers later on.
@@jamalwilburn228 well i generally don;t watch stuff like this just due to the tempo and story line wandering that occurs in most of them(if it's a story about D Day i don't want to be hearing about Pvt dumbnuts's old lady's dear john letter and his whining over it or his Lt's internal fears!!!) but after the mistakes he showed something has to be said in warning!!
Watching the video, you had me doing research on the vet who owned those items. He was born in 1919 and deceased in 2002. I looked up his address just to see the home he lived in. I always enjoy your videos and stories so much that you leave me wanting to know more. Keep up your awesome videos. Thanks for the entertainment.
Great story and I learned something new - again - from these videos. Was not aware of the additional Luger magazine safety. The more you know…thanks Tom.
My uncle had a Luger bring back. It was given to his grandson a few years ago upon his return from Marine Basic. Another uncle had the pistol over twenty years and was wondering what to do with it. I suggested he give it to the grandson, who was at Basic at the time.

Probably top turret gunner and flight engineer, usually a sergeant.
Family didn't want the gun in the house! Sad.

It started life as an "Artillery" Luger! How can I tell you may ask. By the cutout above the 1920 date.
Good observation. I missed that

Hi ,The 99th were not based in the UK , but were based in the Italy and north africa area's !
Great video. You look very 12 o'clock high like.
the plane landed in berlin in 45. he ran into a ticket stain, scooped it up and took off
I don't see B-17s landing in Berlin. You'd see fighters and transport that deep in
I agree with Tom that it traded multiple hands as Lugers were common during the war.
its a joke my son@@jamalwilburn228

Fun video!
PS - Must of been incredibly cold at altitude the missions were flown.
Lovin the history Tom
He probably traded cigarettes to get the Luger.
Probably a gave the guy a couple of lucky strikes😂
Great video, interesting. Thanks Tom!
You should make a calendar with photos of you like that. Just in different poses and outfits.😂 jk

MOTA isn't terrible. Has about as many inaccuracies as Band of Brothers and The Pacificm. It's your online rivet counters who don't like it
