@@YourFaveScribe That's how I am with shoes... I rather buy a pair of $200 flats that last years and years rather than buying some $30 flats from target that get torn and worn every few months.
Thank you!! I'm actually a fan of Coach and collecting is something that people enjoy, a hobby. People like to judge mostly becuase 1. They can't afford it 2. Most people don't understand that there's an artistic view when it comes to fashion and accessories.
Guess and Gucci logos sometimes look pretty similar too, so I can understand what you mean. I think I have gotten confused before, seeing a Guess bag and double checking to see if it was Gucci or not. Honestly, Guess is a lot cuter than I realized when I finally started looking at their stuff. I wouldn't mind rockin' Guess, especially if it's confusing people if it's Gucci hahaha But I still like Gucci and Prada look better than Hermes because you can (1) actually tell it's a designer brand and (2) the styles are actually cute/nice whereas Hermes, if it's not the Birkin, it's either VERY plain or downright ugly, while costing more than everyone else's bags for literally no reason. Even their belts are pretty boring. But, their scarves are pretty!
You're hilarious! Saying that Prada bags "look like they were made on a Friday afternoon" and that if you "had to pick between buying a popular Hermes bag or dying you wouldn't know which to pick" had me laughing. Excellent bag review!
So refreshing to hear someone be honest about Hermes - I have never understood the appeal myself either. Especially the “journey” you have to do to get one. Just buy what you love I say 😊
Kinda agree with Hermes, I could have all the money in the world but I'm not buying any Hermes bag. Overpriced and ridiculous. They even make you feel like you need to beg for them to sell you a damn Birkin! Not over my dead body. Luckily I'm broke, I don't have to worry about any of these LOL
Mia Petrušić everyone always says that they double in price with age and I don’t doubt that however I don’t know who would even want to buy a triple valued birkin let alone a birkin at all!!
Don't be so obsessed with trends people. Buy what YOU like and what YOU think fits your style and you might still wanna use in 5 or 10 years. Who cares what she says and what other people is wearing right now. I'm still proudly wearing Gucci belts, boots and handbags that belonged to my GRANDMA, and they still look so on point. But I'm also wearing bags from my grandma that were big at the time and are unknown today, like Roberta Di Camerino. Think with your own head sometimes people.
Yes! What I too thought watching this video... You know what’s already outdated?? Worrying what everyone else thinks about what you are doing or wearing etc. lol It’s actually kind of pathetic. Let’s keep doing us and what we like!
Exactly what I thought! My grandma was a true Carolina Herrera fanatic (very famous in Spain) and now I recently am too, thanks to her. Gucci also just seems overpriced lately I feel like vintage Gucci has a more high end feel to it and Louis Vuitton is losing its charm since they want to attract a younger audience.
exactly, Gucci is well known for their high quality. Gucci handbags, belts, mules or any leather goods are TIMELESS. Even if it’s 1950s, 1970s or 2019, people will still buy it.
I dont think she made said it to be rude or anything but to tell you how to invent in a lasting wardrobe. Having those classic pieces and what's a good thing to waste your hard earned money on.
I love how I'm watching this being like, "ah yes, good advice. I'll write this down" knowing damn well irl I'm never spending +$40 on a bag let alone $1,000.
I love this review. I work in luxury retail, and you’re reviewing products as I would. It’s nice to see other’s noticing flaws in higher end brands. Just because you pay a ton of money for something, doesn’t mean the quality is there. 🙌🏼💯
My first luxe bag was the Louis Vuitton neverfull which I bought in Paris. I love it and from what I’ve seen I can easily sell it for a profit so that’s always a plus. My one issue is that it’s such a classic style that EVERYONE has a fake version. I feel like it just makes mine less special.
JuliaGoes congrats on the job! I’m sure whatever bag you decide on, you will start seeing the dupes once you buy it! Just seems to be the way it goes!!!! Haha
bae-ley boo They aren’t being discontinued, I live in Paris and have friends working at their head office. It’s healthy marketing to create suspense and spread heresay. But make sure when you buy that the pattern matches symmetrically up at the seams, don’t rush your purchase thinking it’s the only one left. I made that mistake... oh well 🤣
(Update) I bought the Saint Laurent Niki medium in black and I love it. For me, I'll get a Saint Laurent. I dress either smart casual or I'll wear converse and casual stuff so it'll go with both styles cause the brand isn't super super feminine like Dior
Personally I believe Gucci, especially the marmont style is way more classic-y and a durable trend than Valentino. Hands down I would side Gucci Marmont with Chanel classic and Lady Dior. These classic styles never lose their trend.
Thank you, Sophie, for the most entertaining, informative and creative luxury podcast of all of them. I love that you get right to it and do not belabor incessant droning on and on about nothing over and over and over. You have super fun communication skills, are SUPER FUNNY, PLUS your British accent is addictive. Thank you for a refreshing and lovely addition to my day.
I have a Prada Safiano that i bought in a legit second hand store and it’s still in really good condition. However, it is not my everyday bag and i totally can imagine it would loose its shape a little if i was wearing it everyday... i still love this bag tho and i still think it was worth it cause i paid literally half of the regular price.
Spend your money on your own things, if one wants to buy fancy handbags, let them. There may be better things for you, but that does not mean its the same for everyone. l would rather have a nice handbag that can stand through time instead having to get new cheap plastic bags every other week.
@@ladylinda7554 That person did not say that people shouldn't purchase expensive bags. They only said they are sticking to their Wal-Mart bag. They weren't speaking for anyone but themselves. You're getting worked up over nothing. Literally.
Its crazy watching this video 3 years later and seeing that the Gucci Marmont has managed to stick around and kind of turned itself into a "classic" , I see it all the time on people. Funny enough when you scrolled the Gucci page I saw a dragon printed bag that I own! I still wear it to this day!
As a first luxury purchase, i would advise Fendi or brands like Tod's or Ferragamo. Those brands are not like big Couture houses but they are specialized in leather goods. I really like Fendi. Their bags are clean but fun. It's very difficult to find bags that can be serious without being to "grandma-ish" à la Hermes. Then, maybe after that, maybe Chanel. Chanel is very expensive but if you choose wisely, it can work. And about the value, mind you that some seasonal models will hold more value once Karl will retire. I don't know about Dior. They have changed so much in terms of creative direction. It's a bit all over the place. Like Gucci! Maybe the Dyonisus of Gucci will be a classic but they have the Jackie which has been part of their classic collection since the 60's. I also don't like Hermes bags. They are really about status-symbol but they are too bourgeois. Anyway, every brand has it own classics. It all depends on the sensibility.
This is one of the most direct, down to Earth luxury bag reviews without the unneeded ego, fake laughs, and posturing that other RUclips luxury bag reviewers do. Just the facts with a brief history why. No checking eyeliner or makeup and faked out persona. Kudos!
I don’t get what’s wrong with carrying bags that can be “dated”. To be honest, i think it is most important to get a bag that one really likes and if everyone else thinks its “dated”, at least you’ll know you’ll be one of the few left carrying it :) makes it a little more unique!
I think she's talking about people who only buy a bag because it is trendy, not because they personally like it. Like, I totally agree with you that if you truly like something then you should get it because it will always hold value to you, but what she's advising against is people buying a bag because in the moment they like it but aren't thinking too hard about why they like it (aka, do you like it just because everyone else does at the moment)
I agree. I buy something that fits my lifestyle, I don't plan to re-sell anyway. Also it needs to be roomy enough for my (Certified Service) dog to fit into when there's a lot of dirty snow on the streets, like today. And I need separate pockets for my stuff too. (She's not a Paris Hilton type dog, she really is a Service Dog. In my profile pic here.)
The classic flap was the 2.55 (rereleased in 2005 and renamed the reissue) so the silhouette has been around for 63 years. The double C logo was switched by Karl in the 80s I believe.
For expensive handbags, I feel like the bags use me more than I use them. I’m their slave. I have to make sure I take good care of them, can’t just throw them on the soil/ ground. I can’t just be worry free like when I use cheap handbags. I lost my handbags quite a few time, and every time I got it back. Just can’t imagine if I ever lost chanel or birkin bag. People won’t be returning that.
Wooow....so honest and straight forward opinion ... it is refreshing and appreciated from my side. I'm sick of bloggers who are only bragging about these high street brands and no one criticize them. Thank you Sophie !
You look like an angel here Sophie, the white top is gorgeous, your skin is glowing and need i start on my fangirling habits when i see how elegant and sophisticated you are... ARGH YOU are PERFECT and you inspire me so much!
Although my first and only designer bag is a gucci (soho disco) I so understand what you're saying.. My rule for a first purchase is to buy something you love and will love wearing all the time but in a neutral and wearable colour..
Different strokes for different folks and Sophie the information that you have taken your time to share is more than valuable for women taking it to the next level in their bag lives, trust me they are thousands of us out here. You're time along with expertise are appreciated. Thank You!!!
I personally have a large Gucci collection of handbags, small leather goods and accessories and when I look at my collection as a whole I absolutely love it and wouldn't sell a single item from it. Older pieces before Alessandro Michele's directorship are sold for higher amounts than what their retail price was at the time. They do have Classic handbags such as the Boston and the Jackie ( which was originally called the Constance) neither are in current production but are sought after by fashion gurus. The Soho which is one of their best sellers was going to be discontinued after his hiring but sales are strong for this handbag that it continues to be made. When I look at other designers camera bags of which all brands seem to have right now I believe the Soho still out sells them. And according to my SA's at Gucci the brand for once and finally beat out Hermes in sales this year. Love it! The brand is not for everyone but I strongly believe that for those us who have handbag collections or any collectible goods it speaks volumes about ourselves. I come from a very art minded family and I don't play it safe when I buy a handbag that catches my eye but I know what I'm getting in that purchase. Great topic for conversation. Keep filming!
Cardsmaster thanks for your comment. In time they will though it may not pertain to all his creations or any artistic director for a brand who steps down. Consumers still look for Frida Giannini's designs which were lackluster compared to today's designs but they are commanding really good prices. In the late 1980's to early 1990's I bought clothing from Franco Moschino while he was still alive I have since split and given my 3 daughters the clothing. I'm sure they would sell well on a pre-loved site given the date and looking at the tags. Today I wouldn't buy anything from the Moschino brand. My opinion is that Jeremy Scott has Americanized an Italian brand and rude as it is I'm waiting for him to leave. Thank you for your comment. You made a valid point and maybe consumers will hold on to what they have longer than just buying and selling, buying and selling.
I had fallen in love with Burberry! My introduction into designer brands. Shoes, watches, bags, and clothing. It had been my go to brand for years. Fast forward to 2012/2013 and I purchased my first Tiffany and Co bag in purple. Finally in 2020, I replaced my T&Co bag with their gray one. I love the calfskin leather it’s very soft and since the purple bag is still in great shape I trusted the brand.
The classic Chanel bag you thought was from around the 80’s, comes from different time era. It is called the Chanel 5.22 bag - it refers to the time it was released: February 1955. Part of the big restart of Coco Chanel’s career after WWII. Hope it’s useful info 😊
You’re referring to what is often called the “Reissue.” The Chanel 2.55 (you wrote 5.22, but I’m sure that was unintentional, since you got the date right) is indeed Gabrielle Chanel’s design from February 1955. The bag she is referring to in this video is the Classic Flap, which was Coco Chanel’s original flap bag reimagined by Karl Lagerfeld in the 1980s. The 2.55 has the original closure with discreet branding; the Classic Flap has the double CC that was designed by Lagerfeld. The 2.55 has a chain strap; the Classic Flap has a chain strap interwoven with leather. The 2.55 comes most often in crinkled calfskin; the Classic Flap is produced every season in lambskin and “caviar” leather (calfskin that is treated to be tough, scratch-resistant and textured). Both the 2.55 and the Classic Flap have the double flap construction and burgundy leather interiors. Both have a slip pocket and lipstick pocket in the interior, and on the exterior they both have a half-moon pocket on the rear of the bag. They both have the discreet zipper pocket on the inside of the outer flap where supposedly Coco Chanel stored her love letters. They are, however, different bags, one (the Classic flap) inspired by the other, earlier design (the 2.55). So, she was technically not wrong in the video.
Very well stated, Rich V. And accurate! Most people get the 2.55 and the classic flap confused. And I think most people are not aware that Karl Lagerfeld created the double C logo, not Coco Chanel.
A H she deserves 1 million subscribers because she is definitely one of the best RUclipsrs !! She inspired me to start my own YT Chanel love her 🙋🏻♀️😍
There are also other designer handbags that are not so mainstream but are really good quality and worth investing in. I personally LOVE Aigner bags. My first designer handbag was the Aigner Cybill (2016 version) in black with the gold detail. This bag is timeless, handmade in Germany and I know I will carry it when I'm old and grey.
always love love love chanel bag. My grandmother once gave me her vintage chanel bag & it looks brand new and cool until now, even tho she get it when she was younger. What a classic bag :)
My favorite bag is a 20 year old Chanel flap that I got on consignment!! It's in near perfect condition and has the gold plated hardware..which newer Chanel's don't have.
For my first designer handbags I started with a bit more affordable yet still expensive for me brands like Furla. Real leather amazing quality and italian craftsmanship. Later I saved up for a long time and got the Gucci Marmont in the nude and I've got to say I did think for a very long time about it but at the end I loved everything about it so I am not sorry at all it was my first really expensive designer bag. I love everything about it and it looks good with everything. Considering I am not a model in a fashion show that needs to only wear what's current, I don't think it should matter so much to girls if a bag is last season and if instagram models are not taking pictures with it this year. If you love it you love it.
I applaud you for being yourself and not listening to these boring girls who wish to be classic and want a chunk of leather to actually be an investment. Enjoy your purchases and don't let them gather dust.
Gucci marmont in nude was my first designer bag too! But I got the camera bag not the flap. I love it and I definitely made the right choice for a first/entry level bag. I think its a bit silly to say the bag wont be in a couple of years from now, its a classic design.
Thank you so much for your advice! I'll admit, I've had my eye on a Gucci Soho for a while but i'm also lusting after a YSL Kate or a classic LV. My issues are what many people have pointed out in the comments, too many people have dupes of the classics and it makes me feel less special for owning something so meaningful.
No mention of LV or YSL? I feel like it is more accessible to have a tier system for the purchase price with investment pieces. Investing can mean several different price points depending on income available. Maybe Michael Kors and Coach for beginner level (under $500), Louis Vuitton for mid-range ($1,000-$1,500), and Hermes and Chanel at the top (over $2,000). Classic colors, structure, and materials can make or break it if the price-per-wear is also not taken into consideration.
You're so lucky if your French mama will pass them on to you! I bought a vintage Kelly that's older than me (it's 46 years old!!!) but in excellent, hardly used condition - I cannot believe that it's more than 4 decades old but the quality and craftsmanship is excellent! I'm saving up for another vintage Kelly in another colour - totally worth it!
Hi Sophie, You’re the reason I haven’t bought the boy bag yet. The patent Lady Dior bag is one of my favorite of yours even though you don’t care for the new Dior lettering logo tag. I’ve had a great experience with my Prada bag but it’s only a year old. I love that you can customize the bag tag with your initials in gold letter slide on accessories vs engraving it.
Oh my. I agree. Most of the Hermes bags are kind of ugly. The Birkin seems ridiculous because it's handheld only. I like the look of the Kelly but it seems hard to get into. Gucci is reaching way back into their archives with their styles, today. Some look early 80s. I like them and would own one but not at the price point.
Katie Mansfield I agree. I like the ophidia, but I would rather purchase it pre owned. I have the Marmont flap in the dusty rose color and I love it. I don’t really care if it goes out of style, because I like it so much i would wear it regardless.
I do think Dionysus is one of the classics, so classy and elegant from day to night for all occasions. Marmont? That's high school style. Will never consider buying it.
Sophie, you have the most helpful videos when it comes to the subject of handbags, in particular! I own quite a few designer bags now and found myself nodding my head in agreement with everything you said. Very insightful for anyone who is looking to take the plunge on a bag that's going to stand the test of time. I totally agree with you on Gucci ... they seem to have styles that are more "flash in the pan" and come / go very quickly, as pretty as many of them are. To me, the Chanel flap and the Lady Dior are two of the most iconic / longevity pieces you can add to your collection. They also look beautiful! Thanks for the video!
Great reviews Sophie!! As a side note, I own the Chanel Boy in calf leather over 2 years now and have had no problems with sagging. Perhaps because the lambskin is softer it's prone to sagging. Another classic in my opinion is the LV Alma. Now comes with a cross body strap. It's been around forever and the vernis leather ones do hold their own in terms of return on investment.
Hi Sophie I returned the Chanel beach handbag because it was fraying threads as I noticed closely upon receiving the bag and I asked how to care for it by Chanel and they do not recommend to cared for it by adding any sprays or anything on top of the bag to protect it so I returned it and got a leather bag. The Chanel lambskin bag is fab and scratches can be easily rubbed out with your finger oils (cleans hands)
You are so right about Hermes. I do not like anything flashy so I bought the medium size garden bag. There is something lacking when holding it. When a bag doesn't give you a warm and fuzzy feeling, you are never going to use it.
to be fair to Sophie. The bag she showed IS classic but many of Gucci's current bags, even their other sylvie styles are very trendy. I'm not sure the sylvie with a giant mother of pearl moth on it will be a classic or retain its value but to be frank, I think the whole buying a bag as an investment is pretty daft in general. That isn't what fashion is or should be about. If you can't afford it, just don't buy it at all. There are two things to consider besides price though... do you care about fashion or style --- because they are two different things. If you are Kate Middleton, you might want to stick to classics but if you like quirky and unique things...buy the trendy items, who gives an actual fuck if they are trendy later, if you like it, you can use it whenever you want, regardless if it 'goes out of style'. If a bag is a classic shape, regardless of whether its trendy in design or not, it will always be useful, even if its a dramatic statement piece. Using that Gucci Sylvie bag with the giant moth as an example again, sure the Gucci craze will die down...maybe...but that bag will always have a classic 1950s structured shape and if it is your style anyway, in five years when someone besides Alessando Michele is the head of Gucci and gucci is no longer popular, you will still be able to pull the bag out and use it since its your style and the shape remains classic. It will even become your signature bag. Fashion as in trends are irrelevant. Trends, if they work for you, can be used whenever you like.
IMO, Gucci and classic aren’t two words I’d put together. The GG print, yep it’s been around for time, I get it. But their bags wouldn’t get half as much attention if they weren’t pushed the way they are on social media
Caligula Longhbottom definitely right, fashion is, at the end of it all personal (personal style). Everything that is “trendy” or “classic”, now was at some point an individuals way of expressing their personal taste.
I agreed with all of your opinions! One small note though about Prada- I agree on their leather bags for your point but the nylons are so worth it in my opinion. Most are in the
You should check out the Prada Double Tote Bag. It is the only Prada bag that is worth every penny. The quality is AMAZING. I have had it for a few years now and it still looks brand new. Mind you, I have shoved quite a few things in it making it completely heavy and it did not damage the make whatsoever. It is still my all time favourite bag (personally like it more than my dior one). I get many compliments on it. Its such a classic look, its definitely a bag that I could be rocking in 5 years from now.
Um...THANK YOU for addressing Hermes.....some of their stuff just looks....OK. I totally get that it is classic, timeless, etc. but compared to other bags and other styles it just doesn't look or feel practical to me verses other bags too. Also the whole "waiting list" is a deal breaker for me. I personally wouldn't want to wait around forever to purchase a bag I saved up for a long time to buy, only to end up on a waiting list for certain styles.
I love my Gucci Marmont bag and don’t really mind if it’s no longer a classic. Will still wear it. It’s a £100 more than it was last year when I bought it. Also love the Louis Vuitton canvas bag. Had it for a few years and sold it but planning to buy it back now as I miss it and regret selling it. Nice video 🌸😊
They may not be luxury, but I love Liebeskind and Longchamps bags because they're chic, classic, well made, and don't have gawky brand-advertising hardware showing. I don't wish to advertise some brand.
Omg I was gifted the Gucci Sylvie bag and thought I could use it the rest of my life 😂 Well I love it and don’t really care if it’s out of style, but I do want a classic bag like the Lady Dior someday.
I could sit and listen to your voice 4ever!! Perfect tone, love the accent!! I'm new here, just watched a couple of your videos and I'm hooked!! And I am about to purchase my first Chanel! Thank you for the advise!
The Birkin looks blah and underwhelming in my opinion. I’m sure a lot went into handcrafting it but it just doesn’t stand out as a bag I would pay the same price as a car.
No disrespect but most luxury handbags are ugly, but pricey. I could only think of couple of brands that are worth spending the money. Btw, I recently bought LV for $1800 from online & but when I see it in person not that attractive & return it. It's all that marketing & celebrity influence that has ppl buying luxury brands, but there are other brands way cheaper, better design & better quality.
Sophie!!! 🥰🥰🥰 you’re such a darling! Love the accent, love your room, and love how funny you are - pulling that thread from your Chanel tweed is just 😂
Sorry I couldn’t resist commenting. I’m selling most of my Louis Vuitton except for some classics like the neverfull and some small leather goods. Those hold decent value as well. I can’t believe people would watch this video if they’re not into shopping for luxury handbags just to post negative comments about buying them. The video is about luxury shopping. Sophie helps me with these videos to get rid of bags just sitting in my closet being unused to let someone else enjoy them. Recycling bags for one special bag-Chanel💕
I love your videos Sophie and always respect your insight and experience. I agree the classic flap is timeless but it certainly wasn’t likely to be my first luxury bag just because of cost. I have three Gucci bags now that I love and wear constantly. I’m really pleased with the quality on all of them and haven’t had to baby them. If I could trade them for a Chanel classic flap ($$ same) I honestly wouldn’t. I think the trick is to buy a bag you personally love so as not to worry about trend and style going out. I’m not a fan of the Gucci canvas or the Dior canvas for that matter but love the leather. Sorry for the book, just sharing my experience. 💕
That’s what I was wondering who spends $1000s on a bag just because it’s in. If I’m spending that much it’s because I really love it, not bc someone else thinks it’s cool. 🤷🏻♀️. I don’t flow with the style I buy what I like, and continue to wear stuff from years ago that I love.
For Gucci, i think Guccissima leather and canvas are the classic for Gucci. for Prada, the Prada Galleria (or Lux) in saffiano is considered the classic Prada. I bought a briefcase in early 2013 and I use it everyday. The quality is still great. It’s my first luxury purchase
Totally agree about the boy bag. Hardware definitely fades after about 6 months of continuous wear. I didnt mind the sag as it was expected with lambskin. Would buy again just maybe caviar or exotic skin.
I have been buying designer handbags for a very long time and I completely agree with you! I have a lot Gucci’s shoes and accessories but I just can’t seem to pull the trigger on the marmont bag because I think it will be dated in a few years. My next bag purchase will probably be a Dior lady D its classic and timeless plus it holds its value! However I am very tempted to get one of their monogram bags, they are adorable 😱
Unfortunately lady D doesn’t hold its value if compared to timeless classic Chanel bag... sadly but true... at the average cost of $3300 for Mini lady Dior , you will be lucky to sell it for $2500 even if it’s brand new
Totally agree with you, currently been watching marmont bag reviews a lot but still couldn’t pull the trigger, I guess I wanted one for a second only because of the internet influence, my heart doesn’t sing for any of the bag at all.
Can't wait to buy one saving up for a second hand one.The most expensive purse I have was a gift from my little sister a Michael Kors Brown all leather purse it was $500.
I really don’t get the plasticized canvas LV bags. Every third person is walking around with a real or fake one. I think a great bag should at least be fine leather.
I saw Lady Dior on their website woooww! Thank you for letting us know what to buy if we are just starting on collecting. Geez! They have so many colors! The Black, red and nature designs is sooo pretty!!!
From a fashion standpoint I agree about the classic flap vs. the boy bag. However, the boy bag is more my style, so I don’t regret making it my first Chanel purchase.
Love having these ideas for me next investment (yes handbags ARE an investment) and I just loved most of them! People tend to give me looks because I like luxury bags and like to recognize them, knowing at least about which collection came from and the year. Fashion is art and history.
You are so right about Prada bags. Bought 2 in London and when I returned back to Sydney, one had gone out of shape whilst The other had a wrinkly leather. Took back to Prada in Sydney and they said that's the nature of the leather!! Will never buy Prada again. Also had problem with a Dior bag. Trim is not leather and peeled badly. Dior denied responsibility due to non leather trim. Huh? Just make sure when buying these expensive bags to ensure full leather . Your advice on this video is much appreciated. Thankyou
Like goes to you for really practical advice ;) I bought classic black Chanel and beige Chanel boy last year - very satisfied. And I agree that Boy's bottom is not strong enough, so your advice is really good.
I agree with the Gucci marmont bags. I think they are very on trend at the moment but not sure about the future of it. I also do not like the heart stitched on at the back.
i love your accent and this is a super useful video. My grandma told me i should have at least one luxury hand bag before i turn 30 so i like that this video and similar ones exist

You're hilarious! Saying that Prada bags "look like they were made on a Friday afternoon" and that if you "had to pick between buying a popular Hermes bag or dying you wouldn't know which to pick" had me laughing. Excellent bag review!
Yeah, I was laughing out loud at these same exact two comments! 🙃
LMAO this was hilarious
So refreshing to hear someone be honest about Hermes - I have never understood the appeal myself either. Especially the “journey” you have to do to get one. Just buy what you love I say 😊
Kinda agree with Hermes, I could have all the money in the world but I'm not buying any Hermes bag. Overpriced and ridiculous. They even make you feel like you need to beg for them to sell you a damn Birkin! Not over my dead body. Luckily I'm broke, I don't have to worry about any of these LOL
but Birkins are a good investment. They are very very rare. If tou buy it for 20k, in a couple of years its value will be double or triple the price
Mia Petrušić everyone always says that they double in price with age and I don’t doubt that however I don’t know who would even want to buy a triple valued birkin let alone a birkin at all!!
Arianna Surface well actually people do that, which is why it is such a good investment.
D A L I A I understand birkins are an "investment" However WHO is going to invest in a triple valued birkin?
lmao kylie jenner
EXACTLY! If you Love It, buy it & Love It Forever!😍
Same 😂
Hehe well said...
kelly r jkik
Oh well. We can atleast dream hehehe
Kelly LOL hahaha same
I love this review. I work in luxury retail, and you’re reviewing products as I would. It’s nice to see other’s noticing flaws in higher end brands. Just because you pay a ton of money for something, doesn’t mean the quality is there. 🙌🏼💯
Absolutely buy per product and not per brand. Check and test the product. Do this with clothes too. Check the material, stitching and lining.
Haha
Dont feel less special! Embrace the authenticity and hold your head high to the sky ☁️☁️
when will they be discontinued?
bae-ley boo They aren’t being discontinued, I live in Paris and have friends working at their head office. It’s healthy marketing to create suspense and spread heresay. But make sure when you buy that the pattern matches symmetrically up at the seams, don’t rush your purchase thinking it’s the only one left. I made that mistake... oh well 🤣
Vaves Faves who do you follow on Instagram that provides the updates? Curious!
(Update) I bought the Saint Laurent Niki medium in black and I love it.
For me, I'll get a Saint Laurent. I dress either smart casual or I'll wear converse and casual stuff so it'll go with both styles cause the brand isn't super super feminine like Dior
Rachel Grimshaw What do you think of the YSL bags Sophie? x
Sunny Ray I love my ysl bag it’s snake skin fake of course and black I’ve never seen a more beautiful bag not to mention nobody else ever has my bag
Yeap i want to get a luxurious bag but every where I turn everyone is wearing one! Not special anymore and not worth spendng that much money
Yes! I love my Kate tassel bag.
I have a Yves saint Laurent, GREAT!!!!!
Personally I believe Gucci, especially the marmont style is way more classic-y and a durable trend than Valentino. Hands down I would side Gucci Marmont with Chanel classic and Lady Dior. These classic styles never lose their trend.
The fakes they have hurt my eyes. Better to get a YSL crossbody
I’ve had mine since 2017 ..3 years and counting 🤞🏾🤞🏾
What's my broke ass even doing here? 😓
Lol
CATS MANY CATS 😂😂
😂😂😂
Gagagagaga I like you 😂
Ho
Thank you, Sophie, for the most entertaining, informative and creative luxury podcast of all of them.
I love that you get right to it and do not belabor incessant droning on and on about nothing over and over and over.
You have super fun communication skills, are SUPER FUNNY, PLUS your British accent is addictive.
Thank you for a refreshing and lovely addition to my day.
I have heard a saying “if you bought a Prada bag and it has last more than a year, it must be a fake”🤣🤣🤣
MK is better than Prada. They look so similar, and they are higher quality than Prada for far less money.
Really? Coz im really inlove wd the prada tessuto impuntu and there no reviews here
I have a Prada Safiano that i bought in a legit second hand store and it’s still in really good condition. However, it is not my everyday bag and i totally can imagine it would loose its shape a little if i was wearing it everyday... i still love this bag tho and i still think it was worth it cause i paid literally half of the regular price.
I'm so broke but the way you explain things, makes me wanna buy a Chanel bag right now!
Zozzy 😂😂😂😂😂
Me too
Amen
Me me 2😊
Chanel should pay her.
But there’s a lot of fake Chanel classic flap bags. It seems like everyone has one. So I’d rather get something from Chanel that is more original.
I'll stick with my Walmart plastic bag
Good for you! There are better things to spend your money on rather than handbags. ❤
deceased 😂😂
Spend your money on your own things, if one wants to buy fancy handbags, let them. There may be better things for you, but that does not mean its the same for everyone. l would rather have a nice handbag that can stand through time instead having to get new cheap plastic bags every other week.
@@ladylinda7554 That person did not say that people shouldn't purchase expensive bags. They only said they are sticking to their Wal-Mart bag. They weren't speaking for anyone but themselves. You're getting worked up over nothing. Literally.
Lol to each their own :)
It all depends on the sensibility.
lola loic which one from Fendi do you recommend?
So weird.. u must’ve wrote this right before Karl died! Well... his designs are certainly worth more! So much for retirement...
ESKY she's talking about resale
Yeah, she actually said that! Love it :)
its vintage and special!!
I think LV speedy is one of good starter bag.... it's still relevant till now....
So true!!
EXACTLY
She just made me return my Gucci bag 🤣 I wasn’t sure about keeping it. Thanks for the help! ❤️
Wooow....so honest and straight forward opinion ... it is refreshing and appreciated from my side.
I'm sick of bloggers who are only bragging about these high street brands and no one criticize them.
Thank you Sophie !
Your blouse looks so nice Sophie, I love it!
Sofi Karyofyllidou I have the Gucci soho disco in red and it’s the best bag ever! I don’t regret it. And the price wasn’t hideous!!!
Yes, that's the best first bag. It can withstand rough use and looks very stylish and luxurious. Best bag for the price range
I love the black gucci soho disco bag...I would wear it forever!
You will see that when Alessandro gets replaced with a boring creative director...your pieces by him will double in value.
So agree with you.
I love Gucci!!!! The shoes last forever. It is an amazing quality. Everything is well made.
“If I had to buy one of their items or die, I just don’t know.” So funny! Thanks for this video, I’m in love with the Lady Dior and the Chanel
Hahahaha that slow zoom on the price of that ugly Hermes is TOO FUNNY!!! Thanks Sophie! Great video as always
I love Sophie's attention to detail. A real connoisseur!
I can’t wait for you to hit 200k. You are amazing and deserve more subscribers.
A H she deserves 1 million subscribers because she is definitely one of the best RUclipsrs !! She inspired me to start my own YT Chanel love her 🙋🏻♀️😍
So true, I don’t know how she doesn’t have more tbh.
Wow I never looked at how many she has but I am shocked! I thought she has way more. The quality and consistency of her work would deserve 1m minimum.
Totally agree with yah all. Sophie deserves a million sub and more... Keep it going 👍
I agree, im baffled Sophie doesn't have way more subscribers. Her content is awesome
Lol I don't know how I got to this video... Most I've ever spent on a bag was like $175 and even that was hard to splurge on 😂
Jam Same here. My most expensive purse was probably $30, maybe $40 and that was a splurge for me too. 😳
Amen to that
Jam curiosity
always love love love chanel bag. My grandmother once gave me her vintage chanel bag & it looks brand new and cool until now, even tho she get it when she was younger. What a classic bag :)
I started with Kate spade and Michael Kors and I still love them both
I love kate spade!!!
Omg same
t k I love Michael Kors , good quality and much more affordable , their 2019 bag collection is to die for ❤️
Unfortunately, some stores do not consider them "high end" and I feel like they should be..the bags are really well made.
Kate Spade and MK are my favorites.
If you love it you love it.
we're not talking about designer handbags like Marc Jacobs
much less non designer like Furla we talking LUXURY here g!
Maybe you can finish reading the comment before replying...just a suggestion for your future online interactions.
Art & About , so glad to hear you mention Furla. It seems Furla flys under the radar and is very well made for so little $, comparably speaking.
My first luxury bag was a nude colored Prada Galleria tote. Very simple, stylish, and goes with everything. Had it gifted to me in 2014
Thank you so much for your advice!
My French mama loved Hermès best! She had Chanel bags and shoes too but her Kelly bag was her FAV!!👍✨
Hi Sophie,
You’re the reason I haven’t bought the boy bag yet.
Hermes sounds like Herpes! And idiots pay to get herpes, I mean Hermes.
Zenbitch Edvard hermes and herpes don't sound similar at all
@@mushiroom7711 iT Does, because its just 1 letter apart, Herpes.
Zenbitch Edvard yeah, English doesn’t work like that :/
It’s pronounced AIR-mez vs HER-pees
I'm so in love with the Gucci 1955 Horsebit mini rn, I'm hoping since it's a classic style and versatile I'll love it forever
This was so honest and informative and clearly you know what you’re talking about. Love your channel and content. Amazing, honest and to the point!
You're so honest. Designer bags are so expensive. It's really good to research before buying one. Thank you.
What about the Gucci Dionysus? I absolutely love the WOC! Can’t stand anything Marmont...! But there is something elegant about the Dionysus!
I do think Dionysus is one of the classics, so classy and elegant from day to night for all occasions. Marmont? That's high school style. Will never consider buying it.
Courtney Amelia I agree I don’t like the Marmont and even though it’s trending I couldn’t bring myself to purchase it
Sophie, you have the most helpful videos when it comes to the subject of handbags, in particular!
You want a piece that doesn’t depreciate much. I resold several bags for more than I paid. You hit the nail on the head.
What is your opinion on Chloe or Celine handbags???
Dana Mahmoud both are bulky and heavy
Hi Sophie I returned the Chanel beach handbag because it was fraying threads as I noticed closely upon receiving the bag and I asked how to care for it by Chanel and they do not recommend to cared for it by adding any sprays or anything on top of the bag to protect it so I returned it and got a leather bag. The Chanel lambskin bag is fab and scratches can be easily rubbed out with your finger oils (cleans hands)
In 19080's Karl Lagerfeld remade Chanel classic flap w his more modern interpretation base on coco chanel original 2.55 classic 😍
Now i feel good with my first luxury handbag which is Chanel classic flap handbag in caviar. Thank you.
How about a video grouping bags into different budgets or price points? To help us also decide what amount we need to save for? Thanks!! :)
This is probably the best and the most intelligent approach and review on high brand name bags.
What do you think about Chloé bags? I really like the look of the small tess bag but I’m not sure if I should go for it??
Dont' get it, it looks so seasonal.
You are so right about Hermes. I do not like anything flashy so I bought the medium size garden bag. There is something lacking when holding it. When a bag doesn't give you a warm and fuzzy feeling, you are never going to use it.
I disagree about the Sylvie. I mean its style has been retrieved from Gucci’s archives...
100 percent agree. its a very classic shaped bag. Chanel flap is very 80s and impossible outdated o me...
Yeah, when she said that it's a "trend" piece, I was like, "uhhh...no, it's definitely not, it's super classic in design".
to be fair to Sophie.
Most are in the
I love Hermès, but that comment about the 1970s car seat had me crying! It cannot be unseen 😂🙈 xx
Sure it's timeless, like in 50 years it'll still be ugly.
The Chanel Classic Flap has been around since 1955 I’ve read! So even more timeless.
I don't quite understand luxury handbags, but I appreciate being able to find videos on when I do find the itch to one day own one.
I disagree about Gucci just because of the disco bag, I think the disco bag will still be simple and beautiful in 5 years' time.
These are my feelings about the Hermes bags lol Ugly and ridiculously expensive! I'm not talking about Birkin and Kelly, of course))
agree
Petty things! Those are so beautiful and ridiculous cheap for the high quality!
I love Gucci and it is a great quality for the price. My Gucci shoes never ends and it is comfortable, compared to other designers.
Same, I love gucci bags and chanel just doesn't do it for me. I don't know why. Those bags are nice but I don't really want one.
That’s what I was wondering who spends $1000s on a bag just because it’s in. If I’m spending that much it’s because I really love it, not bc someone else thinks it’s cool. 🤷🏻♀️. I don’t flow with the style I buy what I like, and continue to wear stuff from years ago that I love.
lol a chanel classic flap isn't $1000
For Gucci, i think Guccissima leather and canvas are the classic for Gucci.
for Prada, the Prada Galleria (or Lux) in saffiano is considered the classic Prada.
I bought a briefcase in early 2013 and I use it everyday. The quality is still great. It’s my first luxury purchase
This is soo important in our lives bags. Coz when you die you Def need a bag for your trip after life.
Alice Fashion Land totally the Gucci marmont is big among insta bloggers and it will fade away sooner or later
Unfortunately lady D doesn’t hold its value if compared to timeless classic Chanel bag... sadly but true... at the average cost of $3300 for Mini lady Dior , you will be lucky to sell it for $2500 even if it’s brand new
Always on time you are completely right! If I end up getting the lady D I will probably get it pre-loved .
Totally agree with you, currently been watching marmont bag reviews a lot but still couldn’t pull the trigger, I guess I wanted one for a second only because of the internet influence, my heart doesn’t sing for any of the bag at all.
vivian hu Its always better to give it sometime to think about a bigger purchase, that way there will be to buyers remorse 😄
Can't wait to buy one saving up for a second hand one.The most expensive purse I have was a gift from my little sister a Michael Kors Brown all leather purse it was $500.
The Chanel classic flap was introduced in 1955. It was the first shoulder bag Chanel released.
Kyle Ross I was looking to see if someone wrote it already. I knew it was way earlier then mentioned.
I had a Chanel dupe flap quilted classic one in beige in 1962! So they go back at least until then. 👜 👜 👜
I really don’t get the plasticized canvas LV bags. Every third person is walking around with a real or fake one. I think a great bag should at least be fine leather.
Monique Lehnhardt Those bags are ugly! Never understood the fascination with them (fake or real).
I saw Lady Dior on their website woooww! Thank you for letting us know what to buy if we are just starting on collecting. Geez! They have so many colors! The Black, red and nature designs is sooo pretty!!!
Use your purse money and invest in stocks.
Natasha Raisor just as risky. try again
@@twice_velvet risky but you can make a lot more money with stocks and then buy all the handbags you want 😀😀
or real estate, which is more tangible and less risky.
@@twice_velvet invest in a birkin. guaranteed if classic color
@@twice_velvet Yeah Birkins get more valuable over time.
From a fashion standpoint I agree about the classic flap vs. the boy bag. However, the boy bag is more my style, so I don’t regret making it my first Chanel purchase.
So shocked about the Chanel Boy! The saggy bottom would annoy me x
Love having these ideas for me next investment (yes handbags ARE an investment) and I just loved most of them!
People tend to give me looks because I like luxury bags and like to recognize them, knowing at least about which collection came from and the year. Fashion is art and history.
The Blue lady dior is amazing!
Thankyou
Excellent well thought out and smart advice. Thanks
Aklatun Nehar I’m not keen on the heart either. It always reminds me of the Love Moschino diffusion line.
Same, that heart is nonsense!
i love your accent and this is a super useful video. My grandma told me i should have at least one luxury hand bag before i turn 30 so i like that this video and similar ones exist
