I beat Richie one time at Waterford Oaks Nationals..Dean Neeb .me.Richie.what a moto.Spent my life chasing Richie!! Too damn much power!! Even running graphite tuffs!!
Richie Anderson. He accomplished more than anyone did as an Expert. But unfortunately the fact is that he was too fast for EXPERT but too slow to compete as a PRO.
Jeff Reid.....Yeah?.....so what, riders in BMX today can’t pedal with any power, don’t know how to use your brakes because there are no more slower speed flat corners...BMX’ers in the 80’s were far stronger on their pedals, because they pedaled far more then than today...(and yeah, I raced from 1979 and I’m still racing".......and a rider doesn’t or isn’t in as good of shape as riders were in the 80’s......like Richie Anderson....rarely did that dude EVER lose...
@@woodystorey have you checked out the max watts today's pros are producing? Well over 2000. And their skills are unmatched compared to the '80s pros. I raced in the '80s, 90's and 2000s. The cadence has increased too....along with top speeds.
And the pros like Greg Hill, Stu had to pedal their ass off to get speed, they didn’t have the glass smooth tracks and 90psi tires and the big starting hills...so bullshit, 80’s top riders were far stronger on the pedals than today...I see today’s top riders plenty and yeah there are some darn fast dudes...there just isn’t the room to pedal on today’s track only out of the gate and out of turns...rest of it is pumpy cross. Went to both Vegas races, Winternationals and Grands last year...so yeah, I do know, funny how you think 80’s BMX was slow...you’re a damn poser if you think so...
Rob 2020....I raced from 1978 to 1984, I came back to racing in 2017 and I race every week locally and hit 4-5 nationals each year. I’m in the 51&over Inter class, I’ve made mains at 14 of 16 nationals I’ve been to. Back in the 80’s I went to 25-30 nationals so I saw the best of back then, and all the nationals I’ve been to since starting racing again I’ve seen the best of today, and today’s pros are NOT better or faster, but they’re not worse either. 80’s riders were stronger pedalers. 80’s BMX was lower body/leg strength. Today’s bmx is upper body because of the pump thing ya gotta do. Today’s tracks are glass smooth and the tires used have 90psi, that’s the ONLY reason why today’s BMX is “faster”. An 80’s rider would adapt quickly to today’s style as I have. Bmx is very similar in that whoever gets the best start will usually win and it’s follow the leader to the line. Today’s BMX has no need for brakes, only time I use my brakes is if someone crashes in front of me. Today’s bmx is high speed for the whole track, 80’s had flat turns, rougher race surface that made you have to be a strong pedaler....each era has their great riders. None I’ve seen with the all around power, speed and bike control of the Avalanche...I just think the 80’s had more skills for as I said ya had to be a strong pedaler, know how to out brake, ride a far more variety of tracks. I just think from what I’ve experienced in today’s BMX, that 80’s riders were a bit more skilled in more areas...
The race was over after Richie’s first stroke outta the gate...
yes I have all the mains posted in a separate video. someone commented this wasn't 1983. it is and it's in Tulsa.
I was there. Definitely in Tulsa. I didn't make my main but I remember the track - that first turn, the island and those canted whoops.
Anyone remember Kent Lowry. He used to smoke all these guys.
No one smoked Richie Anderson. He was a year ahead of his class.

He didn’t “smoke” all these guys…if he did, he’d be the one with the videos 🙄

Not one obstacle in the 3rd straight.... LOL
