+TzGuRL247 - My pleasure! FYI: it would appear that the Midori branded light paper inserts for the full size Traveler's Notebook ARE in fact Tomoe River Paper. That seems to have been confirmed by Jet Pens.

Thanks for this very informative review. I've had this paper on my wishlist for a while and will definitely be buying some. In addition to letter writing I'm hoping to use it to make my own refills for my Midori TN.

Susan White - I'm glad you found it helpful! Good luck with your refills! If you want to go the easy route, Jet Pens has confirmed that the Midori Light Paper Inserts are made with Tomoe River Paper. I'd always thought that was the case!

When I bought my first fountain pen, a Pilot Vanishing Point, the first fountain pen friendly paper I had heard about was Tomoe River paper. I bought the original small sized journals from Paper For Fountain Pens and I was hooked. That lead to buying his newer large sized journals and the various note pads. And then recently I found out about Nanami and the Seven Seas journals which I immediately fell in love with (my current writing journal is the Seven Seas "Standard").
If my Pilot Vanishing Point got me in the front door to the world of fountain pens, it was Tomoe River Paper that hooked me for good.
Another great video. Have a great week Bradley.

Love this. My Dad was a pen junkie. lol He dabbled in many artsie areas..he did pen and ink drawings, lots of water color paintings too, just to name a few. He was just wonderful and truly enjoyed nice paper and great pens. I have a lot of respect for good quality! you have beautiful handwriting. Enjoy your day.

I also use WhSmith and Tiger shop notebooks. I have a blotting desk pad to write on.
Pens. Mostly I use my Pilot Decimo with it's medium nib. Iroshizuku murasaki-shikibu ink.
Daily carry pen is a Green Pilot Metropolitan Retro pop with the cm 1.0mm stub nib. Seitz Kreuznach Palm green ink.

Hobonichi Techo's have also been made with Tomoe River for quite some years now I think. I was wondering if you could shed some light on the typicl drying times of inks on tomoe river?

I am new to this game and use a lamy studio with 1.1 italic nib with various inks (Parker, iroshizuko, lamy, etc) but by accident i found that "artists water colour paper" (very heavy) works very well for me, getting very good results, no feathering or absorption, maybe a different pen/ ink combo may render other resultsbut so far very happy. Regards, bob

How is 4 XA4 sheets doing when you send a letter to friends?
      Thick envelope, increased postage?
It's not possible to beat Tomoe River when it comes to correspondance via mail, especially with the DL envelopes where you fold A4 2 times

Hi Bradley. Fair review in my opinion. The writing guide is an attribute. Although I have learned to keep level it wasn't easy and a lot of folks will benefit from the guide. I just quit cigs and am looking at pipe smoking and wonder if you can give some pointers. I didn't see a titled vid on this subject but it possibly is there. I had a few pipes many moons ago and obviously didn't use them correctly because I gave up. Pipe rotation was an issue as was tobacco selection I feel (having distiller that much from some of your (excellent) vids. Can you help?

I will make a comparison to people suggesting you to review and or smoke aromatic pipe tobacco. Although I can tell this paper has quality, function and gives something like writing a letter or journaling great nostalgia it isn't for me. Saying that I still have enjoyed this review and your reviews on those fountain pens. I cannot wait for the NFL draft tomorrow. You ready? You should get a Seahawkesk green colored ink for a pen. The 52 gsm crinkles and retains creases far too easily for my liking, and while it never seems to bleed, it ghosts easily and often, which means I can't use both sides. The 68 gsm is far better paper, at least for all my uses. It does cost a little more, but I think it's more than worth the extra cost.

Thank you, my good friend Bradley. Ive just found your blog recently because I want to have a go at making a midori_ esque bookimebob cover and watched the elastic setup quite a few times. I enjoyed this review because I've bought Tomoe River loose paper before, but just found a site that's selling the paper for £8.50 pence for 100 sheets A4 size. This includes postage to the UK.
I'm going to have a go at making my own books using this paper inside. I like your style of presentation Brad and will have to explore your blog more.
Thank you for being generous to take the time to share your obsessions, but in particular for myself anything stationery is my passion.

I have an predilection, nay obsession with Tomoe River paper. I'm absolutely gutted that Tomoegawa has decided to nix it. I've been on a quest to find other paper to fill the void, but so far I haven't been very successful.

That's very disappointing (and rather surprising) news! Considering the fact that Tomoe River Paper is so popular among pen hobbyist, I would have assumed it would be made into perpetuity. I suppose that just highlights the fact that fountain pen geeks and journal aficionados are a small niche. If you do find a good alternative, let me know!

    • @darkchocolate4643

@@stuffandthingsyoutube Oh, dang, I'm sorry, Bradley, were you not aware? If you want to get the skinny, head on over to www.fudefan.com/2021/06/tomoe-river/. Bring a box of tissues. Tomoegawa supposedly is looking into outsourcing production, but I'm not holding my breath. And yes, us fountain pen geeks are a dying breed. Here in Belgium, I don't know all that many people who still use fountain pens (unless they're signing a mortgage) and none of my Belgian fountain pen buddies had ever heard of Tomoe River before I ranted and raved about it. There is one brick and mortar pen store in all of Belgium that carries it. Granted, my country is the size of a postage stamp, but still, it's pretty pathetic. There is plenty of decent paper out there, such as Midori or Life Noble, but their paper is significantly thicker than TR, and its thinness is one of the reasons I love it so much. It's a tactile thing. :)
I'll keep you posted on my quest for a worthy replacement. So far, I've heard good things about Kokuyo Thin Paper and Cosmo Air Light, but I've been unable to locate an online seller willing to ship to my neck of the woods.
