  • Sinking Model Fans -THIS IS FOR YOU!!! This is my largest sinking model movie to date. Almost 11 minutes of sinking models. And when I say sinking models I mean sinking models!!! LOL that’s all this video is!!! In this video you will see the following steamships floating in the pool and then you will see them sink: Britannic, Titanic, Mauretania, Queen Elizabeth. I sink each multiple times in real time with a little slow motion and even a little bit of underwater shots... I also have my sons toy submarine and my Radio Control HMS Hood in the video (I do not sink these) I only sink the liners in the video. Please note that my goal was to only show the models sinking, although there is some “fact” that some of these ships did sink in real life, I did not try to recreate exactly how their real ship counterparts sank (and actually some of them did not sink in real life - ex Mauretania) I am not trying to educate or fully replicate on how their real ship counterparts may or may not have sank in this video - so for the record the sinking's are not historically accurate (there is some fiction here and you need to use a little imagination) as I did not intend this to be historically accurate; All I did was create models that have weights and valves to control water entering and I let gravity do the rest... this is intended to be completely random in how they react - different each time they sink!!! So again I am not trying to make the models sink exactly how they may have sank in real life - this is not an historical video, just entertainment, So please forgive me if the list or the plunge does not match history - or in the case of the Queen Elizabeth which was on fire (Spent too much time on the model to burn it) - so this was only for fun. Also since I know many of you ask this - here is some background on the models I used - The Britannic model is a Revell Titanic kit - painted to resemble the Britannic (it is not actually a Britannic model) and the Mauretania model is actually the Mauretania and is a kit by Airflix (I sink it like it was the Lusitania) but it is in fact the Mauretania and it's real life counterpart ended her career in the wreckers yard - (she never sank), The Queen Elizabeth is a kit by Airflix and her original counterpart met her end with fire sinking in Hong Kong Harbor back in the early 1970's, The HMS Hood, which I do not sink in the video as it is radio control and would be damaged, met her end during WWII at the hands of the Bismarck, lastly the Titanic sinking model is a rare vintage toy from the late 1990's, I have had this since then and I only paid $12.00 at retail - I had no idea it would be so sought after today! And one very important remark to note concerning this video’s content - this video focuses on the fun of making sinking ship models but it is important to remember that the real life counterparts of these ships that did actually sink - people did loose their lives - we can not forget that and let’s hope we never have to experience that - so I mean no disrespect to their memories or their families as this video is meant to only be focused only on the ship models... but I do encourage everyone to read about the real life counterparts of these ship models and the people that sailed on them - to know their true stories!!! With that said I truly hope you enjoyed this video - please feel free to subscribe - during the summer months when my pool is open I try to make a few videos about ships / toy boats, I also like to do other hobby videos during the rest of the year about trains and RC cars so I try to put out a few videos now and then - I promise I won't clog your alerts - Thank you to the youtube audio library for providing the audio tracks: "Waltz Of The Flowers" by Tchaikovsky, "The Blue Danube" by Strauss & Brahms. Lastly and most importantly thank you to our viewers and subscribers who have found and watched this video and all the others we made!!! Thank you for your support!!!

    Hi everybody!!! The views and comments on this video have picked up significantly so I wanted to just remind everyone that I am not trying to recreate or match history, each sinking model sinks at complete random and each plunge is different based on the conditions experienced at that time... my intent was only to provide entertainment in watching how the ships react to the conditions of the pool... so each sink will be different and may not reflect how each ship sunk historically, and in the case of Mauretania not at all. So feel free to use your imagination... sometimes the ships do perform accurately and sometimes completely fictional and random and that is ok as that was always my intent :-) I hope you all enjoy this film!!! And I hope this inspires you to try building your own models :-) I will be making a new movie like this one during summer 2021 so stay tuned!!! Thank you all for taking the time to watch :-) and I hope you will like and subscribe as it helps me grow this channel greatly 👍. Thank you!!! :-)

      Yes mine is a repaint of a Titanic, I only tried to resemble Britannic when I made it, if I ever do a significant overhaul this model I may try to add them if I can craft them to look right! The britannic barely listed before going vertical by the way it never did go vertical it hit the ocean floor at the time then listed back tilting then going under

    • @ourdogzippy
      @ourdogzippy  3 года назад +1

      That would make an amazing model to recreate that, plus if I was trying to make this historically accurate, I would also do this in a shallow pool to have her hit the bottom before she sinks completely maybe even try to have the bow split when she impacts with the sea floor (I could actually rig that but that’s a lot of work for a one use model) then come to rest on her side... but that was never my intent, this was only meant to resemble the sinking not recreate it exactly as it is just a simple plastic model. My goal was never to make the sinking historically accurate, only resemble it, I did indicate that in the video description. Thanks for watching - I appreciate your feedback :-)

      @@ourdogzippy I mean yea but I didn’t use this I used the titanic model kit painted it britannic colors then added bulkheads to the port side

    • @ourdogzippy
      @ourdogzippy  3 года назад +1

      Yes that’s what I did too I just did not add the bulkheads. This is a Revell Titanic painted to resemble Britannic.. I never actually intended for it to sink, I actually made this to float forever lol, but so many viewers asked for it to sink in the original video’s comments - so I actually modified it into a sinking model but I did not add the bulkheads as I would of had to take to much of the model apart. If I ever built another one I would likely add bulkheads to make it sink more and control the plunge a little more. But for this model, it’s simply always gonna be completely random plunges, sometimes it resembles the historical sinking in a few ways sometimes it doesn’t- completely random - makes it kind of fun - you never know what your gonna get!

    • @ourdogzippy
      @ourdogzippy  4 года назад

      Other than the Titanic model - I built them all... just find a model kit, build the hull first, then balance it out with something heavy and secure it down with a good glue, then you need a hole (under the waterline) to let water in (you can also add a valve but you do not have to) and possibly bulkheads based on how you want to control the flooding- so on the weight and where you put the hole with the work done inside the hull controls the sink- it is much more simple to do than I describe :-). Good luck!

      Hi - it’s a Revell Titanic model kit that I painted to resemble Britannic- it’s not an actual Britannic model. To my knowledge there isn’t any Britannic kits on the market so you have to make your own…You can find the Titanic kit in craft stores, hobby shops and most online retailers that sell model kits should have Titanic…. You from there just paint it like Britannic or if you are really skilled you can add plastic to create the Gantry Davits and other distinguishing features… Some people do however, sell 3d printed HMHS Britannic models already built - If you want a beautiful ready made Authentically detailed model of Britannic already built for you take a look at Titanic Honor & Glory’s website. They make all of them :-).Very nice 👍

      Hello, the models were all purchased from good old fashioned hobby shops - nothing was purchased online in this video. The Titanic was from a PBS store (these stores are out of business) and the Britannic is a Titanic model, painted to resemble Britannic ... to my knowledge there aren’t any Britannic kits on the market right now that you can build but there are some vendors selling 3D printed versions of her already assembled... If you have a hobby shop near where you live they should have at least a Titanic model, there are also a few good ship model websites online - a Google search can start you in the right direction search for “plastic model ship kits” this should get you started... I hope this helps :-)

      Thanks for the compliments. The Titanic submersible model can typically only be found on ebay in 2021 (very expensive) I was lucky to buy mine 20 +years ago when it was priced for retail. Every other ship in the video - I made. All are plastic model kits from hobby shops or online, and made to be the exact ship from that model kit except for Britannic - that one is actually a Titanic model that I made to resemble Britannic... all are just tweaked to be watertight, balanced, float and then sink :-) If built properly, they can survive a good amount of use in the pool :-)

      Finding plastic model kits of ocean liners is not easy these days - especially affordable ones...I think with Covid people bought kits to build while they were home, plus the stock was not that plentiful to begin with, if you focus your search on Titanic you should be able to start there - local hobby shops or craft stores, such as hobby lobby or Michaels if you live in the USA will at least have Titanic, you can also try eBay and mercari online

      @@ourdogzippy Final question. Do you at least know the manufacters of this models? Thank you and keep up the good work.

    • @ourdogzippy
      @ourdogzippy  3 года назад

      Thanks for the compliment - Revell made the Titanic model I used to make the Britannic, Airfix made the Mauretania and Queen Elizabeth models, the Titanic submersible model originally came with a book but the manufacturer name escapes me (these are out of print and outrageously priced now anyway). I also have built a few warships by Lindberg and Revell (not shown on this video) None of the models are hard to make, but to make them float and sink, that is not part of the kits, you would need to seal and balance them on your own - it’s not difficult :-)
