Flew on one about 20 years ago. The takeoff and landing performance is truly impressive. The thing can take off and land in an area the size of a puddle.
Years ago in the early 70's they used to fly our hockey team to games in one of these twin engine Otters up north in Manitoba because the highways were not built yet. It was either rail or flying so we flew. We had all our hockey equipment bags filling the aisle. Great memories...I still recall both engines winding up as we took off.
A beautiful video on a beautiful day in Vancouver, one of the world's most beautiful cities. Coal Harbour, Stanley Park and the north shore mountains on a sunny day. Perfect!
I was very fortunately when I was younger ... I had an office downtown Victoria and one downtown Vancouver. I lived the best of both worlds. I not only enjoyed the opportunity to fly aboard these beautiful girls but also on the heli-jet copters that serviced the coast and the various marine vessels. I knew many people who lived on the outer islands and who commuted into Van or Vic on a daily basis for work. It was quite a way of life that I'm sure still continues.
Lynn Lake, Manitoba. 1977. Long floatplane dock. Twin Otter tied up at 1 end. Twin Otter tied up at the other end. Room for 1 more in the middle. Twin Otter slides up alongside, uses prop pitch & rudders & parallel parks between the 2. And it's Canadian! HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!
Thanks so much for posting this. As a former pilot and aircraft lover, there’s something very soothing about watching a magnificent aircraft go through its paces before taking off, and of course the sound of their engines. The place where this video was taken is lovely.
Thanks for the info! We have good friends in Seattle. The next time we’re in town I’m going to put in a request to visit that place in Vancouver. BTW, is there any source of air traffic control when flying out of major cities?
Hi good nigth congrautlations for the video,,, baetifull planes the Cessna,,, take of the water,,, so calm,, the wood,,, places with great pace,,, have a good time,,, your friend Oscar de Pachuca HGo Estados Unidos Mexicanos,,,
Flying is my passion. My grandparents that live in Panama City used to have a seaplane business from 1995 to 2009. They sold the business because my grandfather who was the pilot had a heart attack and the doctor said he couldn't fly anymore. He was heartbroken about it.
That's really interesting, that must have been cool growing up and getting to see your grandparents seaplane business. I bet he was heartbroken, that would be a big adjustment after all those years of flying.
Little known fact, the air traffic control "tower" cab for Vancouver Harbour is the highest one in the world, at 466 ft, atop the Granville Square skyscraper in downtown Vancouver, BC.
Very cool footage. Looks like Vancouver BC (could tell by the huge sulfur piles on the distant shore). My favorite dhc models would be the dhc-5 buffalo, dhc-7, dhc 8-100
Good eye! Yes, this was taken in Coal Harbour in Vancouver. Those are some of my favourites as well, absolutely love the DHC-5 and the DHC-8 as well. Unfortunately I haven't got to see a DHC-7 in person yet but would love to some day!
@@TheHDAviation I haven't been lucky enough to see a DHC-7 in person but I've been able to at least simulate it fairly well in X-plane 11. Love the stol capabilities, and having 4 engines just looks and sounds very cool.
Could we say that this aircraft is the ultimate "SUV" (sport utility vehicle) of the airways...? I spose if we could, then we would have to include the "Beaver", and single "Otter" as well... Ok, i'll buy that. Those Canadians sure know how to build a plane...
TheHDAviation Haha, I was woefully late to watching this video, didn't expect a reply... I think I am gonna start a bucket list, to ride in all of the DHC's that I can before I "break the surely bonds of this earth"... Probably won't make into a "Chipmunk" though...
Flew on one about 20 years ago. The takeoff and landing performance is truly impressive. The thing can take off and land in an area the size of a puddle.
Very cool! I'd love to get up in one some day. Bet they're a lot of fun to fly in.
Watching a turboprop back up is the most amazing part.
The climb out is pretty cool too.
It's always cool to see them handling them on the water. Must take some skill to get them in and out of the docks.
Reverse thrust, always spectacular and rare from parking position. What a treat.
Vancouver Harbor is a three ring circus with floatplanes, boats and big ships. I watched the activity for hours when I was there.
So true, it's always impressive to see all the action going on the water there. One of my favourite places to check out when in Vancouver.

It was either rail or flying so we flew. We had all our hockey equipment bags filling the aisle. Great memories...I still recall both engines winding up as we took off.
Very cool, that must have been an exciting way to reach your games! Would love to fly in a Twin Otter some day.
A beautiful video on a beautiful day in Vancouver, one of the world's most beautiful cities. Coal Harbour, Stanley Park and the north shore mountains on a sunny day. Perfect!
Thanks so much! It's true, Vancouver is definitely a beautiful city. Can't wait to make it back there some day.

Ok, the Otter twin is now on my favorite sea plane list along with the Albatross.
Beautiful ! Watching from Jamaica 🇯🇲
Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it!
Very nice starting of the video
Great stable shots! Despite being a boater and a pilot, this is the first time I've seen a plane taxi backwards out of a boat slip.
Thanks a lot! It's always impressive to see the pilots handling these seaplanes on the water.

Been on these in the Maldives, best taxi ride ever
fantastic aircraft...and pilots.
So neat to see a water take-off!
Ya, it's always fun to see!
Fine video. The Otter seaplane performs superbly and the scenery is beautiful, including the heron
Great clip. Watching the rudder correction on liftoff was interesting... those floats are HUGE, they must create enormous drag.
Nice reversing and turning of the Otter right on a dime. They must have done that a number of times for that perfection.
It's always impressive to see how they handle these aircraft on the water, must take some practice.
I miss working on Twin Otters. Great plane.
I always love seeing them, one of my favourite turboprops.
WOW what a superb movie. Superb footage and sound. Loved the heron at the start :) Huge like!
***** Thank you very much, I appreciate it!
another beautiful video! well done always loved the twin otters and this one was great to see nice looking and sounding aircraft. rob
robert balboni Thank you! I really like the Twin Otter as well, always fun to check them out at CYHC.

Really glad you enjoyed the video! If you're ever in Vancouver, the seaplane base right downtown is a great spot to watch a lot of different aircraft.

Great video of a great plane !! Thanks !
I love the DHC-6, it looks so easy in the air.
Thanks for watching! I love the DHC-6 as well, would love to fly in one some day.
What a beast! Wonderful footage and sounds!
felsenpanzer Thanks a lot, I love the Twin Otter!
Oh that's beautiful and I didn't know they can reverse.... thankyou👍🇬🇧
It must take some skill to maneuver them on the water. I was pretty impressed the first time I saw them reversing out of the parking spot!
The Twin Otter looks so great on the water. Beautiful video. Liked a lot. :-)

They are being made still. Viking Air currently produces the Twin Otter Turbo with a number of configuration options.
Nice to see WCA upgrade to the Pratt&Whitney PT6-27 Engines.
That looks like CXH COAL HARBOUR

Viking Co. of Sidney (Vancouver Island) Canada is building new Twin Otters and hold the certificates of a number of the old DeHaviland aircraft...
Yes, that's great to see new Twin Otter's being produced. I would love to see Harbour Air's 400 Series next time I visit Vancouver.
Very cool. Dad use to fly a twin otter but it wasnt a float plane

I love De havilland. Gréât engineer
Yes, they've made some great aircraft over the years.

Reverse thrust and back right out of the slip! I hear ya!
I've never seen a plane back up like that.
This port is located at the city center of Vancouver. The seaplane traffic is very busy here everyday.

With modern cost and safety concern over airport operation, seaplane add on a great alternative for Navy, Coast Guard and U.S. custom
I agree with Aviation Spotting Frankfurt+100500!
MegaSkybox Thanks :-)
hallo i jump out off a twinOtter in Belguim, i t was like in a movie , static line ,3.300 ft. bloody good plane,
I wonder what the two line guys on the dock were talking about?
DHC-6 (de Havilland Canada)
One of my favourites!
How does the plane back up on its own? At airports small 'trucks' push the planes backwards. Are they reversible, vari-pitch props?
Does the aircraft have rudders in the floats ? That turn was pretty sharp.
Reverse prop is handy for ground... ehm, water handling :-)
Hey is it just me or is this relatively quiet for a turboprop? :o i see dhc8 operating at my home airport and they are loud as hell :D
super perfecto para cargar droga super perfecto...
Super du reve
WAHOO!!!!!!!!
reveso ? dessa eu não sabia
A twin otter took off from the island next to me while watching this.
Haha that's awesome :-)
