Thank you so much for the follow up. Congrats on all the attention for this video, you deserve it! I also couldn’t find what I was looking for on propagating and pruning this beautiful plant.
Thank you for this series!! I took a cutting from a family member's 35ish year old tree philodendron. We gave the mother plan away to someone who had the space to house such a massive plant, and I was very fearful of hurting the mother plant/not being successful with some cuttings that mean so much to me. Your videos give me hope (pun not intended, though I love the name of this plant). Thank you!!
Thank you for these videos. I've been researching the very same thing with about the same results. Mine is an outside monster. It had about 5 trunks when Snowmageddon hit. I'm in South Central Louisiana (Morgan City) not far from the Gulf Coast. We got down in the low teens. My monster only lost two of the trunks, but has been massively flourishing since. I suspect that when all its leaves froze and wilted, it made kind of a natural "blanket" that protected the rest. Either way, I have been trying to learn how to propagate it, because it has multiple trunks and HEAPS of roots. Your videos confirmed what I was hoping... They're very much like elephant ears... As long as it has some roots it WILL come back.
@@TheChickenCoopHomestead We are having a child and my beloved plant needs to much space in the room intended for him so i really appreciated your help! With your technic i can decrease the plants size and keep it
Wow, wow, wow. Thanks so much for these videos! I was looking for a video just like this, but yours is the only one who showed what I was looking for. I just bought one of these today, and she's bigger than I expected, and it looks like she'll just keep on getting bigger! Hopefully, she won't outgrow my space with these techniques :)
Thank you! I have one that is so tall and yours was the only video showing what I could do. Now I need a video to show me how to take off a side shoot and replant it since it has no roots
I would just pull it off with as much of the bottom intact and plant in moist soil or place in a small amount of water. It will root. I promise! Thanks for watching and glad it was helpful! 💕👩🏼🌾🪴
Yes, what she said. My bestie has one that’s 65yrs old (single trunk) and every time it gets an offshoot, she slices it off right at the base of it, repots it and away we go! I got her first “baby” about 5 years ago and now it’s getting monstrous too ❤️❤️
Hi! Thanks for these vids. I love my philodendrons (in Fl). But I need to cut some back big time. So your cuttings from the bottom (with roots) did all survive but top part did not is that right? Sorry I got lil confused!
The ones with roots did better than the top I saved to propagate. It has a new leaf but the rooted bottoms did do better. Hope it helps you! Good luck and thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video! I have a 40 yo split leaf too. It's such a beautiful plant that has taken up my front room and I was curious about how it would fair if it was pruned. You have such a green thumb 🌱
I live in Victoria, Australia. I have this plant. It likely as old as the house so around 40 years old. It's still in the pot it was first put in, in the fernery - has grown through to the ground, all its aerial roots are in the ground. It flowers as well as this spring/summer it has grown 2 offshoots and I kept being told it was a Xanadu. Which it's not. They're a completely different leaf etc and I'm glad I found this to know that I can cut off the offshoots and grow them on their own. I call mine my big philly girl 😊 she flowers around 4 to 5 flowers over spring and summer. They stink like dead corpses until the dry out and then they smell like a fruit salad with a hint of cinnamon. Amazing plants. I just wanted to say, mine handles our winters perfectly fine and we get below 0 as well as frosts. She does fine through winter. No damage from the cold. Didn't Didn't know winter should effect her!
I just did the same thing u did here. I did it about 2 mos ago, so far, nothing, but i was hopeful. So glad i found this video. I can rest now!
They are still alive and well! Good luck!

Omg glad the one with roots did so well! This gives me hope for pruning my big guy.

Wow. Thank you for follow up. It's great. Do you think you will cut the new shoot and repot them to start a new plant and throw out the old stump?
You could do that but it’s doing so well I’m just going to let it be.
Yessss ! ❤
