You mentioned his vibrato, a scientific study of his voice - sadly after he died, so only based on recordings - found that while commonly the human vibrato resonates at between 5.4 and 6.9 hertz, Freddie’s was at 7.04 and while most vibrato is very regular his was irregular giving his voice more depth and making it stand out. His vocal rang was from F2 to F6. I showed this on a stave to some young singers and musicians I work with, they were staggered and mightily impressed. Freddie was also using sub-harmonics, which he did by not only using his vocal cords but also the ventricular folds in his throat. His voice truly was unique.

      Sammy,
I read about the study and his throat singing. I wondered if it's what I heard in "We are the Champions" where he suddenly goes low, but I can still hear the higher expected note. It could be another band member, but the first time I saw Mercury singing it, I perceived it as two different notes coming from him at the same time.
I looked up throat singing and it seemed similar to his growls, too.

This is the greatest rock song ever written and performed. It is also one of the greatest songs ever written period. Queen were way ahead of their time. The technical abilities of Brian May on lead guitar is something to behold. He played the guitar in such a way that you often forgot that there was only one guitar. Deacon on bass is often overlooked because he was so quite and unassuming but he was always technically perfect as well. Roger on the drums also supplied the majority of the backing vocals. With as amazing a singer as Freddie as the lead singer/front man, Roger still stood out as a great vocalist as well. As great as all three of those band members were, they took a back seat when Freddie was on stage. He will always be one of the greatest rock vocalist's that ever lived. His ability to command the crowds attention is unparalleled. Queen was like a perfect storm that came together at the perfect time in music history. There will be great groups in the future but there will never be another band quite as amazing as Queen was back in the 70's/80's.

Queen didn't originate from the streets, they were middle class college/university students.
Freddie was the least academic, but arguably the most artistic, and definitely the most bohemian. Brian May was the most academic, he holds a Phd in astrophysics.
That aside, they were/are all very musical, each one having written hits songs, but the other members of the band referred to Bohemian Rapsody as "Freddie's song". That gives us the Bohemian part of the title. But what about the "rhapsody"?
"A rhapsody in music is a one-movement work that is episodic yet integrated, free-flowing in structure, featuring a range of highly contrasted moods, colour and tonality."
This couldn't have been squeezed in the conventional c3 mins for popular songs of the day, and many thought at that at nearly 6 mins it was too long and would never sell. But one DJ, Kenny Everett, a friend of Freddie's, who also died early because of AIDS, played it every hour he was on the air, and it stayed at #1 on the UK charts for 9 weeks.
Another factor at the time was the problem with performing it live on Top of the Pops. Queen spent £5,000 producing the video, That's ten times the usually amount for producing a pop video at the time. That video revolutionised how records were promoted. And it paved the way for MTV.
I was 19 when this hit #1 in the UK, so for me it's a joy to watch people who weren't even born then, from all over the world and from different musical tastes, appreciating what has become a classic. And the upcoming movie is going to be seen by generations yet born.

You, and I suspect many others. Certainly some of the 65,000+ people who attended this event in London last year will be going to see it. ruclips.net/video/cZnBNuqqz5g/видео.html
You've got to smile when you see so many people, not necessarily Queen fans, singing along at the top of their voices to a 40+ year old pop/rock song. I've seen such scenes repeated around the world. Argentina for example. ruclips.net/video/V6OEiLVOTtM/видео.html

We Are The Champions (Written By Freddie Mercury)
We Will Rock You (Witten by Brian May)
Somebody To Love (Written By Freddie Mercury)

People keep saying Queen influenced MTV, but The Beatles were doing promotion videos in the 60's. They were no longer playing live and produced videos for T.V. productions. While Queen fans claim this was start by Queen, Paul McCartney refers to those promo videos as the influence for MTV. If anything, Queen was influenced to make videos because they were also fans of The Beatles.

@MrAeronuk1 Hi! Bri started the PhD in the late sixties but as Queen got going he left it. He came back and completed it after Freddie's death. It's about space dust - an area people hadn't studied much during the time he wasn't studying - and was coming back into scientific interest when he completed his PhD. He was just in the US for the "fly-by", and released a new song called "New Horizons" to celebrate it.

Queen - Freddie Mercury (keyboard & vocals) , Brian May (guitar), Roger Taylor (drums) John Deacon (bass guitar). I saw them 4 times in my life & it was an HONOR & A PRIVILEGE to see them in concert in L.A. back in the late 70's & early 80's before I had gone into the service. By the time I got out of the ARMY Freddie was already sick and the band no longer toured. I wish I had seen them just ONE more time but alas, this was not to be for me... or the world. R.I.P. Freddie. We all miss you so. I'm glad you enjoyed this. The WHOLE song was in Freddie's head before ONE track was ever laid down. THAT IS PURE GENIUS.
THIS IS JUST ANOTHER REASON TO END ABORTION... WHO KNOWS WHAT OTHER GENEIUS WE HAVE LOST OUT ON FOR THIS SICK EASY WAY OUT OF A SITUATION???

As a musician you really need to look in to Brian May's guitar, man.... that thing was hand made by him and his dad out of parts they found around the house... I mean, the neck is made from a piece of wood from the mantle piece of a fire place that was over 100 years old, with tooth pick filling in the wormholes. The fret inlays are buttons and the controls from knobs from an old radio.... It sounds so unique, especially if you know that he never ever uses any effect pedals and that he doesn't use a pick but a penny coin. Seriously check out the Red Special videos on his guitar... A good guitar, like a good sword, deserves a name :)

Pretty much everyone went crazy over this back in the day. When it was played at “the” bar of my college years - yeah, I’m ancient - all talking & dancing stopped & the place rocked as everyone sang along. (I’m pretty sure that knowing all the lyrics was a graduation requirement?) Watching the video of a crowd of 63,000 singing it a few years ago at a concert at Hyde Park sure brought me back. I can’t imagine the thrill of being a part of that experience.

It is nearly 45 years ago and I am an old man now, but I still love Queen and their fantastic music. Bohemian Rhapsody is a brilliant compilation of Ballad, a Capella, Opera and Rock, composed and produced by Freddie Mercury, with help from his friends Brian May (Guitar), John Deacon (Bass) and Roger Taylor (Drums). Queen is the most diverse band you will ever hear to this date. So many popular songs to choose from as well as obscure ones. But if you want to hear another good transition song and best vocals ever then "Show Must Go On" is a great choice. "Somebody To Love" for great piano and vocals. This is also the best band to hear live. In most cases they are better live than their studio version songs. Best live band in the world. The beginning harmony is not the band. That is all Freddie. He dubbed his voice over and over to get that harmony. In fact it took 70 hours to record this song because it was dubbed over and over. He was a musical genius. The guitar solo was written by Freddie on the piano. Brian May had to learn to play it on the guitar. When Brian was a little boy he and his father built his first guitar. He said it had a better sound than any of the ones he has bought since. Their is so much history about this band. Freddie’s voice has actually been studied. They have said it was amazing how he could change it up so quickly and his range was unbelievable. He was a natural baritone but he mostly sang tenor on his songs. He also dabbled in opera. I could tell you so much more but if interested it’s all out there.

Freddie was born in Zanzibar, Afrika. He spend the second part of his childhood at a boardingschool in India and at his aunt's house. In that time period he received a classical music piano education. That's where the ease you see might come from :) Thank you for the reaction!

Ok so the movie Bohemian Rhapsody got Queen a lot of new fans. I’m 50 and have been a huge Queen fan since I was 10. My 12 year old has been a fan since he was 2. I’ve watched a ton of reaction videos on Bohemian Rhapsody and can’t believe how many people don’t know about it. I mean FFS it’s a goddamn masterpiece. It’s like saying you don’t know who Beethoven is,

The reason why you can't pinpoint where you've heard the song from is because different portions of the song has been used in movies and other songs. For example, in the beginning where they say: " easy come easy go....." can be heard Anna song from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory starring Johnny Depp. Then of course you have the part from Mamma Mia. Then you have the part where they say Galileo, Galileo....... it was used in another song in the 80s. I'll let you find out which song that was. So don't rack your brain and try to figure out where you heard the song from because different parts of this song has been used in a lot of other songs and movies. Remember this song came out in 1975 and has been remade, replayed, broken up and use for other people song. I guess because clean as a British group, American singer and songwriters feel like they don't have to give them their props.

As far as I'm concerned Queen is the best group ever. The outfits that wear however we're not in at that time either. Freddie just liked to dress flamboyantly and he designed the outfits for the other members.

In the late sixties in 1968-69 's the rock band "The WHO" with their legendary Rock Opera album titled "TOMMY" help make them into superstars. And "Tommy" became a Hollywood movie, and Broadway musical. The rest as they say is history...I hope you will take a listen to the Who's Tommy...Peace!

Loving your reactions to these wonderful classics, man! Queen is musically on a whole other level when it comes to rock bands. True legends. Also, speaking of musical legends, something I heard from a former member of Prince's entourage is how much he admired Freddie's voice, stage presence and wardrobe, so much that some of his own costumes were designed to mirror them. He wanted The Revolution to physically resemble Queen. Heard that the admiration was mutual, too, and that Freddie was a fan of His Purple Royal Highness and loved the "Kiss" video. :)

I love that a lot of young men who have been into hip- hop and other contemporary music are really enjoying discovering the marvel that is Queen, with appreciating the best vocalist in rock history. Love Freddie Mercury's original music (and the other hit-making songs by the other band members as well). He wrote many different genres od music as well. Always experimenting with how to make new sounds in the studio. I love your down-to-earth personality. I am looking forward to seeing more of your reaction videos. I love that you replay the parts that you love. Queen broke into the rock music scene the year I graduated high school. I just didn't really appreciate them until I was in my 50s. I wish I could have seen them in concert. I heard the reason Freddie never got his teeth fixed is because he thought it would affect his vocal quality. It very may well have done so. He was all about the music. Love Freddie!

youll never be this lucky, but I was born in 1960, starting in about age 12, ( when you finally could tune your own radio, there was a new "greatest song ever " every 2 1/2 months or so. all your friends were playing it, you would wear out the record, your parents would get tiered of hearing it, and if you couldn't afford to buy it, you would sit for hours with a tape recorder trying to tape it off the radio................every 2 1/2 months or so...a new one...........

@@MikeDesertHunterHale - Here's another oldie born in '49. Got to see the Beatles, Queen, DC5, Who and many bands of the era. Haven't been to any concerts for years. Just not the same. Auto-tune and semi naked girls don't cut it for me. Most of today's performers are indistinguishable from each other and are prefabricated to fit the market. These guys created the market and refused to fit a mold. Very little originality today with a few exceptions but none to compare to Queen or The Beatles, two totally different groups obviously, but both innovative and original with distinct personalities. Somehow I can't think of many of today's songs that will stand the test of time. The boy groups are out of date in a half hour! I hope more young people give older music a chance. My parents were from the big band era and there's good stuff there too. If it's good, it lasts. If not, gone in 30 seconds. I like almost every era except the current one.
Of course Farrokh Balsara (Freddy) was amazing and mesmerizing but it's a bit of a shame that Deacon, May and Taylor are so often forgotten or relegated to less importance. They were all amazing musicians and vocalists....it's just that Freddy was special, no doubt.

I could listen to Freddie Mercury saying all day!! He is the best male singer and shadow man of all time. I don’t know if there’s anything he hasn’t done on stage😂😂 Roger Taylor the drummer and Brian May the lead guitarist also sing. John Deacon- bass player- would seeing in concert but rarely on albums. Roger Taylor had an incredible voice!! If you ever see “ Queen Live in Montreal 1981”
WHOA!! That drummer rocks and he is also the high-pitched vocalist on this song that sings that Galileo, it’s not Freddy but it’s the drummer.❤️

You asked about favorite band members...obviously Freddie is freaking incomparable, but the guitarist, Brian May, is equally as incredible. I had the great honor of meeting him, very briefly, last year and when I hugged him I buried by face in his British bird chest and inhaled the scent of genius and stardust❤️. I'm still recovering. Brian's playing has this round tone that is inimitable and a soul that belies his stoic face. I love watching Queen thrive through generation after generation. It's so cool watch new folks get their minds blown. I'm aching for someone to react to March of the Black Queen. You want switch ups?! That song is ideal. Big love to you! Thx for letting us watch.

Hey the 75 year old Grandma here, this my friend is the greatest Rock Opera ever written, the transitions in the music is like the different acts in a play as the music tells a story. It is said that the person Freddie confesses to killing in the song is himself as he comes out s a gay man, killing his old personality. I believe he was the greatest front man ever. He had such fantastic stage presence.
