In early 2021 I was on The Warning Patreon, and they mentioned their KPOP bands. (Red Velvet, Loona, etc) without mentioning DC. I went to RUclips and looked up female KPOP. I randomly saw BOCA and my whole world was changed. I can't describe how much I like this song, or how much Dreamcatcher means to me in my life. Dreamcatcher is written on my soul.
The song is about cyberbullying in South Korea which has led to the deaths of a number of Kpop idols and other celebs. 'Too many angels dying now' refers to them. Specifically Choi Jinri and Goo Hara, two Kpop idol/actresses who ended their own lives within a month of each after being relentlessly attacked on social media for their unconventional (by Korean standards) life styles. Dreamcatcher's songs are not just catchy pop songs, they're always about something that is socially important.

Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉 Boca means "mouth" in Spanish and Portuguese and is part 2 of the Dystopia trilogy, which deals with bullying and hate comments, in particular the online variant ("A trick behind a mask, a ridiculous freak" from Scream). Boca has the lines "Why do you fill your precious time with hate" and "Too many angels dying now", which points to the effects those comments can have. Several Kpop idols have committed suicide in recent years, most likely because of cyber-bullying, but this is also about all the unnamed people who suffer from online bullies. A girlgroup tackling such a subject impresses the hell out of me. They literally go to war in this video and tell haters to go and shut their "Boca" in the lyrics. And the song is absolutely awesome! Who said you can't have three different musical genres in one song?
We really have to thank DC's producers for the seamless transitions between the different parts of the songs! Their producers also work with ATEEZ and it is quite noticeable in the way they somehow make every part of the songs work so so well together. Sometimes, you take apart the chorus, the bridge and the verses, and really wonder how they manage to actually make that work. It's one of the things that impress me the most with them!
Thank you for Dreamcatcher’s reaction. I recommend Scream (Part 1) as the next song. And I hope you start reacting to the Nightmare series (Chase Me, Good Night, Fly High, You and I, What, PIRI).
Dreamcatcher is the best in transitioning from a genre to another genre. from latam beat, to dreamy, to rock edm. seamless.. pay attention to their other songs about transitions, you will understand the appeal..
Its insane that Dreamcatcher is made up of seven completely disparate personalities, yet each one is up, down, left, right, shot through, thoroughly Dreamcatcher.
Thanks for checking out Dreamcatcher's Boca! Boca, as you stated, is the 2nd part of their Dystopia Trilogy, which consists of Scream, Boca, and Odd Eye. The Dystopia trilogy is social commentary on hate speech, online bullying, and social media as a whole. All of Dreamcatcher's titles are structured around a deeper message though it's not always easy to see/hear on first listen. Boca's lyrics and story are from the perspective of someone who sees others being attacked and they decide to put a stop to it, telling haters to shut their Boca (mouth), or they'll do it for them. Their visuals usually have a bit of a dreamlike quality. Events in the MVs are typically out of order, there's often references to duality and mirrors, and there's usually a darker undertone. Musically, Dreamcatcher have some of the best dynamics in the game, imo. Their pre-chorus' and bridges are fantastic and do a great job of making the disparate sections flow together. Their producers, Leez & Ollounder, who are part of the Edenary Production team who does Ateez's music are fantastic and have been with them since their debut in 2017. This has helped to craft a specific sound that is the Dreamcatcher sound. Leez, recently left but he has been replaced with other members of the Edenary production crew. The rock instrumentals are Dreamcatcher's signature sound, with Rolling Stone India dubbing them the "Face of Rock in Kpop". They were also the first K-Pop group invited to attend Primavera Sound which is a massive rock festival in Spain. All of their title tracks utilize rock and metal instrumentation to varying degrees, with the Dystopia trilogy having some of the least rock focused titles. Some b-sides are also rock focused, but they have an extremely diverse discography with genres across R&B, EDM, Funk, Jazz, Trap, Reggae, and more. Looking forward to the rest of your Dreamcatcher reactions.
dreamcatcher \:D/ you should check out the apocalypse trilogy - maison, vision, bon voyage (in that order unless you like to do things differently lol). obviously music is personal preference and I'm assuming the three you checked out are the dystopia trilogy which are among my least favorite dreamcatcher title tracks 😅. the thing with dreamcatcher is no two of their songs are alike as they always combine different genres together in each song while almost never revisiting genres previously used. for example boca uses a raggaeton beat for a lot of its verses and it's the only time it's used in dreamcatcher's 100+ song discography. dreamcatcher is also known for using rock/metal instrumentation but always in different ways since there's a lot of sub-genres of rock.
Which Dreamcatcher song I listen to? Well, all of them including the B sided and even intros & outros because they're all phenomenal. For the title tracks, every component mashed together cohesively and create that Dreamcatcher masterpiece: the song arrangement, vocal color of each member and their part division, diction and meaning behind the lyrics, story of the MV, choreography, dancers role & position, choice & arrangement of the set for MV shooting, storyboard for each scene, video post production, even the hair color of each member...you cannot talk about one thing without the others. Thank you for checking out Dreamcatcher. Looking forward for more!
If you watch more and more dreamcatcher mv, specially the newer ones, You see that this is Gahyeon expertise. She is my bias of the group. She know how to use facial expression very well. Specially in there MV called BeCause.
Yeah, Dreamcatcher`s texts are very vague and metaphorical, sometimes it`s hard for me to understand. (And also maybe they skip some words to fit the music? Idk, I`m only learning Korean, but sometimes I feel like there`s not enough context to properly translate). For example, chorus says "If those thornlike words hurt you, don`t open mouth" which I understand as "If you`re gonna say something rude, first think, will you be hurt if someone said that to you? If yes, don`t open your mouth, don`t say that bs". In russian subtitles it translated as "If their words hurt you, I won`t allow them to open mouth again" and I don`t know which translation is more accurate :D But yeah, in any case this song calls out bullies and asks them to "change their mind". My personal favourite from Dreamcatcher is their "Apocalypse: From us" album (title track is Bon Voyage). I don`t know if you`re ever going to check out their B-sides, but just in case keep in mind - often times they`re even better than title tracks :) Hope to see more DC reactions from you! You guys are fun :)
I see many of the comments here have already explained the meanig of the song, which is deep and meaningful as can be expexted from Dreamcatcher. I however also heard you say you couldn't really tie things together lyrically. You have probably already thought of this but that is most likely because of the language barrier. They have English translations and some English lyrics but due to the differences in Korean and English a lot of the "cohesiveness" is lost when translated. I feel like besides that, the way of writing song lyrics is also more "separated" in kpop in general. So I always think of the translations as a literal translation that is not "adjusted" to the new language making it necessary to make these adjustments yourselfs if you intend to decipher their meaning, even if the lyrics are in English. Anyways great reaction and looking forward to those to come!
We all love BTS! But lately RUclips has been cracking down BTS’s reactors on RUclips. Hopefully you would understand that taking breaks from BTS reactions would not be a bad idea. Just my opinion 💜🙏🇺🇸🍒!
@@maximoon7077 Actually BTS MV’s are lleast likely to get blocked. That’s why there our channels that react strictly to BTS because the videos hardly ever get blocked.
