Unfortunately it seems pretty common in the party entertainment world. I worked as a party mermaid and we had not one but two outside companies that we worked with try to steal gigs by representing themselves as part of our group and doing a bait and switch. And that’s just two that we know of. It’s why my company ended up having a “no working with other groups without approval” clause in our contracts. Unfortunately other mermaid groups then started drama about us “not playing with others,” so I guess you can’t win for losing. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I feel sorry for the last child whose party crashed. I lived in a small village growing up so parties for kids were generally 15 kids or fewer as that was how many kids were in a school year group. (Obviously these got bigger in high school) I remember a party where the popular kid RSVP'd for a party of a less popular kid and then didn't turn up. At school, in front of everyone in the year group, "Why didn't you turn up" "oh I couldn't be bothered. I went sailing." Aged 9.

Yeah... parents are terrible about RSVPs for birthday parties. There will always be some that say they'll be there but don't show, and others who never respond, but show up anyway. Oh, and it's super fun when you book a location that has a maximum head count and someone decides to bring all 5 of their kids instead of just the 1 that was invited.

I feel sorry for the child who had hardly anyone at their party. In the 60s we moved alot being in the military & I have a Sept bday & my mom always invited my whole class with alot turning up. My sister's bday is 3 days before xmas, so attendance was low because people didn't want to buy a gift that close to xmas & we were on xmas break.

If a kid asked why i left in a car i would say "Well, the fairy godmother turned my carriage into a car so i wouldnt gather too much attention on your special day!"

It can be very hard to get kids and their parents to commit to come. Our kids were often disappointed. It can be hard also when all the invited show up.

My Princess Jasmine costume felt soooo inappropriate. In my defense I had made it an Arabian Nights outfit for my bff the previous Halloween. It was gorgeous, but had been made as my best friends Halloween costume years before. I borrowed it to do the party because the girl they hired flaked out that morning. I modified it the best i could to fit my ample bust but i feel like i looked like a slutty genie (which was the original design idea). My friend's niece and the kids loved it, I got tons of costume orders and minimal stink eye but i felt like a stripper at a daycare center.
