Team Intel Ultra Aura! Not having to worry about "Will this software/game run on my laptop" will always be comforting to deal with daily. Also, slightly faster RAM speeds.
Thank you for the comprehensive review and careful review. If you start doing your speaker tests with a stereo microphone, you'll give the audience a much better idea of how different machines sound and bring your reviews to a whole new level!
Love your channel but your conversions from kg to pounds is off by a lot. You're my go-to channel for reviews since you buy your own laptops so just wanted to point that out.
Last month, I recommended a Yoga with Ryzen 5 to my sister without knowing its RAM is soldered. And she ignored me saying that she should get at least 16GB RAM because it's Ryzen, and bought one with 8GB RAM. I still feel upset about it. Great video, Dave. I want to point out if you could only afford to spend around £1600, Yoga with 32GB RAM is a better choice because you can buy accessories with £300, such as, KB, mouse, Webcam, speaker
I was looking for this exact comparison! Thank you for this. Now I know that I will choose the Slim 7i aura over the air if I don’t decide to buy the MacBook M4 Pro.
I like the tracks you choose for the speaker tests. Can't believe apple still has a legit lead in that area. But i find the keyboard on Yoga to be better. Thanks for the review
I will never understand, especially in 2024, why the windows laptop, that are sold at premium prices as well they do not have haptic touchpad. For me is a buy/not buy reason for a laptop
Even without the notch, I never pay more for RAM and storage upgrades than the free market prices! Otherwise, the two notebooks are similar but these aspects are decisive for me.
Two questions: * I use the Ctrl-key extensively in my work. The Macbook keyboard has located this key in a location where it is much more difficult to reach it... I need to twist my left pinkie in an "impossible" position, which will dramatically reduce my typing speed. Is it possible to re-program the Macbook keys? * Changing the SSD on the Lenovo -- will that break the warranty? What about similar HP laptops?
changing SSD will not void the warranty as long as you do not damage the laptop in the process, same with Dell (not sure on HP as I will not buy their laptops from previous bad experiences). And with regards to the Ctl key, if you want to try and swap it with fn so its similar to windows laptops, sadly that will be impossible because the fn is a system key and cannot be rebinded
Sir excellent comparison. Please reply what settings you use to find on Battery performance of Geekbench cpu on intel? Balanced or High performance mode of windows settings?
Great video as always mate! And this one feels almost like it was made for me. I have a strange request, if you or your editor happen to own polarised sunglasses. Is the Lenovo's screen visible with them on? Some laptops' LCD screens are completely invisible through polarised sunglasses! Apple always get the polarisation of their screens right, but I'm unable to test the Lenovo as it isn't in stores where I live. I work on the road and need to use my computer outdoors a lot so this is a (admittedly niche) must for me.
Hi everyone! Nice video! I'm looking for a new 14p laptop just for web browsing, videocall and some amateur videos ( motorbikes trips) this Lenovo was one of my choices but i m really disappointed by the touch pad. I was thinking of spending around 1500/1600€. Any suggestions? On the Italian Lenovo website i found a lenovo yoga pro 7i 14( ultra 9, 32Gb ram, 1 TB, nvidia 4060 for 1600€ during the black Friday) but the reviews aren't very good. What do you think about it? P.s. Sorry for my English!
I just bought the Aura and I think the quality is lackluster, specially compared to MacBooks. The track pad is a real step down, using it for long periods is uncomfortable. The keyboard lighting bleeds badly around the keys and it's annoying in certain angles, like when you are watching something on the bed. Speakers aren't great as you said. If the MacBook came with 1tb, I'd say those 300 pounds are worth it. Thanks for you review btw!!
yeah the touchpad is a massive downgrade against the mac. The sad thing is they are using a decent haptic trackpad in the Thinkpad P1 so why not use it here!! Apple and the damn soldered storage just kills me inside, I mean how can they still be offering 256gb in the base model? thats borderline unusable unless all you do is browse the web
I'm more concerned with your financial situation after this review lol. Personally i don't like MacOS that much and macbooks aren't my type, i prefer high core count on a laptop since it helps with my dev workflow (compilation and running virtual machines/containers) the new AMD HX 370 seems to fit that role. I'm gonna pass on this yoga, there are other options offering better value, the only laptops from lenovo i care about are thinkpads and legion brands. Will you make a review on the new thinkpad T14 gen 6 AMD ? though the price tag is ludicrous but will eventually drop, sadly they removed the ethernet port !
haha, I put pretty much all teh money I make into buying the next laptops for review! its a bit of a juggling act but I love what I do so its worth it. Thinkpads are also my favourite so definitely and I also want the new X1 carbon but both of them have insane price tags at the moment. As soon as there is a voucher code/offer I will order them
Great video! I will say this... If gaming and OS/ecosystem are a non issue, when I run out the door (and don't want to take a charger with me), I always grab my Mac, and not my windows laptop. Why? I know that the battery and OS performance will be consistent. No surprises. If I'm needing a bigger screen, I'll grab my G16 and charger. I shouldn't need it (especially with the new AMD chip), but the trust just isn't there yet. :-)
I agree with you but from my time with the new intel chips they are also heading in the right direction. I also havent had a spicy bag yet where the laptop has come out of sleep and overheated but that may have just been luck. Up until recently I have always used a Mac for on the go personal use because of battery and the fact I can just shut the lid and not worry that my work will still be right where I left it but I just hate MacOS (and from my previous job I managed UNIX servers so very used to Mac subsystem) and the lack of user upgrades and crazy apple prices
Many good points but marred by some basic errors. The MBAir listings were changed in the last week so this spec is now £1,499. Also the Lenovo has also seen some price reductions. The 14” M4 MBPro is now £1,699 and is far superior to either of the laptops here. Plus all MacBooks now come with 16GB minimum finally! You should also point out that the MBAirs will get the M4 chip in Q2 2025 at the latest whereas the 3rd generation of Lunar Lake is still some 10 months away. For gaming and a lot of the higher power use cases you show, far better to get a Zen 5 machine than either of these here. As always, horses for courses.
I have used both for years and I love the fact I can press anywhere on the haptic touchpad. I love that you can adjust its press sensitivity. When I go back to the non haptic I just end up using tap to click instead of depressing the touchpad as I hate only being able to press the lower half
I filmed this before the apple announcement so did make a note in teh description. But yes, this was a step in the right direction from apple, its just the 256gb ssd starting config they need to fix now 😂
I wish Lenovo would stop putting labels on the deck. Just keep it clean with how Lenovo is on the back of the lid but get rid of that dumb Yoga brand on the inside.

Thanks for the heads up. I am going to have to blame Gary for this as he does the conversions. Guess its time for a new editor to abuse :)
Wtf

Oh mate, that sucks. Being stuck with 8gb is going to be hard work! I wish they would make it more clear when ordering :(
I was looking for this exact comparison! Thank you for this. Now I know that I will choose the Slim 7i aura over the air if I don’t decide to buy the MacBook M4 Pro.
Exactly what Ive been waiting for, Thanks! Looks like I wont be coming back to Windows just yet
Don't forget about the ports and the upgradability costs in summary
thanks mate, I will do that for future vids
I like the tracks you choose for the speaker tests. Can't believe apple still has a legit lead in that area.
But i find the keyboard on Yoga to be better.
Thanks for the review
For me the Lenovo sounds better, and I'm sure it can be improved in the specs.
Please bring videos frequently. I really love and enjoy your videos.
I will try! :)
How about the new m4 , can the aura still be competitive with the pricing
looking forward to getting my hands on one to test it. That mac mini base model looks amazing value (except for 256gb ssd!)
Obviously no, the M4 despite being Apple is more worth it, unless if you wanna play games
for the life of me i cannot understand why these companies aren't using the haptic touch pad. keyboard and touch pad are deal breaker for a laptop
Would you consider the yoga 7x with the x-elite a better buy than the aura edition? (If work is mainly done in a browser)
I will never understand, especially in 2024, why the windows laptop, that are sold at premium prices as well they do not have haptic touchpad. For me is a buy/not buy reason for a laptop
I love Lunar Lake as the best windows soc overall for everything.
Next year Panther Lake with 12Xe3 igpu cores and 16 cpu cores will be interesting.
Even without the notch, I never pay more for RAM and storage upgrades than the free market prices! Otherwise, the two notebooks are similar but these aspects are decisive for me.

high perfromance in windows
@MashITTech ok sir
You mentioned gpu performance slows down by a lot when on battery with Yoga, will it increase export times on Resolve as well?
it will increase render times slightly when on battery but the performance drop on battery wasn't terrible on the yoga just not as good as the mac.
@@MashITTech Thanks! Macs still king 💯
great review.
Great video 👍

@MashITTech totally agree. I think they are pushing really hard to get users to pay for cloud storage.
I have both so don't need to choose, but both awesome
Haha you made a good choice 😂
Can you review m4 pro base variant 16/512
The MBA 15 doesn't make sense for the money. I'd rather get a MBP 14 base model with more ports, better display and speakers.
I agree with you but the air is still one of Apples biggest selling laptops (though probably the 13" version)
I'm more concerned with your financial situation after this review lol. @@MashITTech ahh... should have know you were a *nix admin. :-D (that's a compliment!!!!)
haha thanks, its been 10 years since I left and started my own business and I have to admit I dont miss it 😂
before watching: I am going to assume the Lenovo has a superior keyboard
Many good points but marred by some basic errors. The MBAir listings were changed in the last week so this spec is now £1,499. Also the Lenovo has also seen some price reductions. look, I have both, I can barely tell the difference between the touchpad, reallly what is all the hype about heptic touchpads. sorry
I have used both for years and I love the fact I can press anywhere on the haptic touchpad. I love that you can adjust its press sensitivity. When I go back to the non haptic I just end up using tap to click instead of depressing the touchpad as I hate only being able to press the lower half
Not much point having a faster cpu if you're stuck in a restrictive ecosystem.
totally agree, and this has always pushed me away from Macs personally, well that and Apple upgrade pricing is scandalous
The price of the yoga is too high.
Now m3 base model also have 16gb ram
So price is similar now
I filmed this before the apple announcement so did make a note in teh description. But yes, this was a step in the right direction from apple, its just the 256gb ssd starting config they need to fix now 😂
@MashITTech 8gb to 16gb base that's a huge loss for apple though 😅
Let them sell iCloud for couple of year the they decide.
Your weight conversions are incorrect
Yes thank you. My editor screwed up the conversion! No more drinking whilst working for him! 😂
apple webcam much better
I wish Lenovo would stop putting labels on the deck. Just keep it clean with how Lenovo is on the back of the lid but get rid of that dumb Yoga brand on the inside.
The problem Mac is it's shitty os 😂
Lol couldn't figure out how to use macOS? 😂 Idiot.
I use both daily and much prefer the windows file system.
they tell you 16GB ram on a mac is like 32 on win11 because Mac OS has a different approach to ram that doesn't eat half of it on idle
Soldered RAM = built-in obsolescence. From the same corporations that tell us how much they care about the planet and how green they are.
There is no reason to compare latest intel cpu with old apple chip, wait couple of days and grab new m4 macbook 😂
This was shot before m4 was announced but only just finished editing it
@MashITTech ok, but still
I get it but the m3 airs aren't released until next year and I didnt want to waste the hours of work I had put into the video. Sorry
You should weigh everything in American weight because America is twice the size of all of Western Europe
😂 think the weights are twice the weight in the American weights because my editor also screwed up the conversion 😂
