Today, Yesterday, Forever, as a punk that loves punk, this song will always be worth hearing. Fuck your crust, fuck your labels, punk is punk, this is where punk is. I bet they'd hate to be pigeon holed when they were making one of the best punk songs ever.
thanks to the help I got from the bass player Nick J who kindly supplied me with info and pictures relating to my Brothers' contribution as Drummer on the "if only" mini album
@@alanknotts1844 (sigh) I know and coming up to the 35 year anniversary of my Brother Ian's death on 23.5.86 - the drummer "Batesy" on the record rip old friend
Hi , My younger brother Ian Bate ("batesy" on the album sleeve) was the drummer for this band but tragically died of cancer on 23/5/86. Does anyone know if the band carried on and/or what they are doing now. Would be grateful for any info or if any one knew my brother welcome to contact me.
+Fab White Hello Fab and thanks for your message. wondered who Kate was though (lol) I am fine and can report that Ian's widow Joanne re married and has children from the second marriage . First I have heard about that book. That's great ! . Glad that Ian will be remembered . he was about to start composing music and writing lyrics for the band. Amazing to think that 2016 is the 30 year anniversary of his death. But he will never be forgotten now thanks to the Internet. I have written a piece on the Sears for the Birmingham music archive . The highly rated female lead singer of the Sears is still singing . But no longer this kind of music . She has become a Jazz vocalist !! ps I assume you are Italian. is that book of Italian origin too ?
+Fab White They were on the rise in 1985. (I was a member of the famous JB''s club in Dudley - look it up !- it was the one of the longest running music clubs in the UK- and I saw them play there ) never really recovered after Ian's death. The mini album is now much sought after . I know there is interest in the Sears in both the USA and Australia as well as Europe. Funny thing is that Ian gave me a copy of the album but I never thought about getting him to sign it. ps you never know what is around the corner.
+Fab White You can find loads of info about JB's Dudley by simply typing "JB's Dudley" in to your web browser. I have a large book that was published about the club a couple of years ago. The club was at one stage the longest running music club in the UK. It opened in 1969. I was a member from 1976 and saw hundreds of bands there from 76 onwards. Some went onto become huge like Dire Straits, U2, The Police, Blur. , Tourists ( pre Eurythmics band of Lennox/Stewart) even Dead can Dance played an early gig there in 84, also Penetration, The Only ones. Stone Roses and also many rock/metal acts like Robert Plant/Judas Priest and of course not forgetting the Sears ! ps Ian was born in 1965 I am older born 55 !! I was brought up on late50's/1960's music . And my fav musical decades are the 1960's and 1980's. My fav band ever are still the Beatles'. My fav track of all time is "the green Manalishi" Fleetwood mac (1970). My fav live performances ever have been by Wall of Voodoo (1980's), Dead can dance (1980's), Thin White Rope (1980's), dream Syndicate (1980's) , The Clash (1970's), Joy Division (1980's) ps despite the above . Love modern Music my current fav acts are Low (my fav of the last 20 years), XX, London Grammar, Agnes Obel, Lisa Gerrard, , First Aid kit, PJ harvey etc etc . This year have bought and enjoyed new albums by Daughter , Tindersticks and Aurora. Got tickets to see her live later on in the year in Birmingham what about you ?
