It was even more odd given they added the baby, all but ensuring a set amount of time had to pass. Yet all them look exactly the same 9+ months after the last movie, which in itself is possibly years since the first one.
The worst part is they didn’t even continue the story from the last movie. Where the heck is Dru? Didn’t he and the Minions run away and steal Gru’s car?
@@Goomba1309 Exactly. It’s like they forgot him, remembered him at the last minute, and shoehorned him in to be like “Remember this guy we kinda abandoned?”
Remember how the ending of the third movie where Dru, still wishing to be a supervillain, along with most of the Minions, stole Gru's rocket-powered aircraft and flew away, which prompted Gru and Lucy to decide to give them a five-minute head-start before engaging in pursuit was set up as a cliffhanger ending the fourth movie would follow up on in a fun and exciting way? I do…. 😕😕😕
15:45 we can't forget the fact that in despicable me 1, when gru was STILL a villain (he didn't completely become a father yet) he still defended the girls, remember the carnival scene?
To be honest, each plot did have potential, but as a show. Cuz this feels like a show turned movie, rather than a normal movie with a set plot. There could’ve been one episode dedicated for each plot, one being them settling in to normal life, one for each of the girls, one for Lucy, maybe a few for Gru and Poppy, and maybe two for cockroach man guy.
Remember when the movies have an actual plot? Like Gru saving the girls and fighting Vector in the first movie or him fighting El macho and saving Lucy in the second? Now it's just shenanigans with Minions and random scenes. There's too much stuff in this movie; Gru and the baby, the thief girl and her cat, the villain, the mega Minions, Lucy being chased in a grocery store, the girls learning karate. I adore bugs. I am a bug nerd and even I hated the fact they made Maxime a cockroach. You know what would have been cool? Him being able to transform himself into any insect he wanted. Quick getaway? Wasp. Distraction with pretty colors? Butterfly. Wanna do battle with someone in a cool way? Rhino Beetle or Preying Mantis. Like they could have done so much more with the transformation into insect thing. Just ANYTHING other than a cockroach. Also I wanna point out ... Gru can barely pay attention or focus on the three girls he ADOPTED. Why in the hell did he think having a fourth kid was a good idea? I just don't understand the writers mindset here. As it was they barely had the time to devote to these kids in the last movie. Why write in another? And IRL kids can get really upset or depressed when a parent just completely ignores them. Moral of the story ... don't have more kids than you can care for or give your attention to.
While it doesn’t make sense for Vector to be back on Earth, which pretty much retcons the entire events of Mooned, seeing all the villains from the previous movies sing with Gru was a lot more charming and satisfying than Kung Fu Panda 4 having all the previous villains bow in respect to Po.
I think that the villains are done better here than in KFP 4 because they weren’t the focus. Dreamworks made a big deal about the villains returning and only brought back Ian McShane. I've said this from the third movie, but I cannot believe they've wasted the potential of these characters for so long. Like, they added a BABY now? When they've yet to do anything with the existing family dynamic? This is Shitty Sitcom Writing 101: spend an entire plot building up to something major, end the story, then completely forget to do anything with what was established prior and sideline characters. Why the hell does Lucy want to be a hair stylist? That woman was shown to be a nigh unstoppable force in the second film...and now she's just a stay at home mom? From then on, you can have a plot of them being undercover vigilantes and solving crimes in secret. Literally the anti-hero Incredibles. a human cockroach bro i had a dream like a few months ago of these roaches coming into my house robbing random stuff and then forming into a human shape full with roaches best part.. I'VE NEVER SEEN A ROACH IRL!! i love my brain lol
Alrighty, this sucks and I hate bad villains, so watch me try to make a better backstory for the roach despite being a fanfiction writer with no formal experience whatsoever. Maxime never knew who his parents were, as his father had died from malaria due to a bug bite and his mother perished from difficulties with the pregnancy, to preserve the pg rating and satisfy fans this would not be directly stated but implied through images and dialogue. Maxime is sent to the orphanage of doom, an orphanage made specifically for raising villains which routinely tortures and abuses the children it cares for so they can become real villains. At some point in his life after this, Max graduates from middle school and enters the same evil high school as Gru. The two became fast friends, relating with their love of odd things such as inventions, ice, insects and jelly. Gru was loyal to Maxime and even helped him score a girlfriend, who remained his only female companion due to normal people thinking him too creepy and villains thinking him too flamboyant. Finally, Gru and Maxime signed up for a evil invention project, and both hoped this could be their big break. Max and Gru worked together to create the freeze ray 2.0, a stronger and much more reliable version of the freeze ray that could freeze for longer, hold more fuel, and even freeze things as large as an elephant with some effort. The plan was simple, they would go on stage together and present the evil invention together! Gru and Maxime would share in the notoriety. Except that didn't happen, as Gru had lied to Max the whole time about the nature of the project, only one person could announce the invention. So, when the day came, Maxime holding the notes for the presentation and Gru holding the freeze ray. Gru was called. But not max. Max laughed it off, this was just a misunderstanding... right? But Gru still went up and presented it anyways, winning him clapping and cheers. Max cried "Did I not assist you?!" Gru froze, but lied to the audience "what?! No! I did this on my own!" Max was crushed. Even more crushed when he saw the golden medal of deviousness given to Gru. Maxime's obsession with bugs only grew now. He was as insignificant to his only friend as a quiet housefly. He sat there with tears in his eyes, and his Girlfriend was the only one to comfort him. Maxime moved on with life after that, resuming being a b tier villain without much relevance. He wanted to be a father, but for medical reasons, it just seemed like he couldn't make one. And forget about adopting when you are a supervillain. Unless you have a bunch of goofy minions forging your documents, but Maxime did not. So, seeing Gru again at the reunion, he had hoped Gru wanted to pick up their old friendship. But he was wrong. Gru tried to arrest him, but Maxime fought back by turning into a cockroach and flying away. Maxime wanted revenge now, and you know how super-villains feel about revenge. He looked in on Gru's life, and saw him play with his daughters, interact with his minions, be respected by his colleagues at AVL, all things he just didn't have. And most of all, He had a son. *Maxime began to feel.... jealous.*
This movie was so underwhelming, the only part i really enjoyed was at the end when he sang everybody wants to rule the world and danced with characters from the previous minions and despicable me films. In the advertisment they really emphasized on gru going 'undercover' and hiding his identity but i felt like they could've played more into it. I really felt like i wasted my money going to the cinema for this, i could've happily waited a year or two till it was streaming on Netflix or something... Also i would've loved to see the girls grow up a bit, that would've been interesting.
This movie is a nothing burger. They didn’t know what to do with any of the characters aside from Gru, the baby was kinda pointless till the end, and the witness protection plot went nowhere, they didn’t go anywhere with it. They could easily have the same kind of plot of the new family along with the villain kid just moved next door to their house. Feels like they only did it because they needed something for the girls to do but even then the girls barely have a part in this movie. My mom loves these movies as she found them funny and even she dislikes the fourth one which I am surprised about. My favorite part is double life and the end because it shows all the past villains which I thought was fun. That’s it.
In my personal opinion from a story perspective, I think "Despicable Me" and "Megamind" as movie concepts would've worked better if their stories following after their first movies were switched...... Gru should've found out about multiple bad guys from his past trying to get together with him to do crime again and take over the world together instead of his brother Dru in the third movie, that way there wouldn't have been no need for a 4th at all! Megamind and Roxanne should've had a kid together at the end of the second movie while he's busy working for the forces of good and taking down another villain, then the third movie of Megamind would be about him and Roxanne's son or daughter needing to grow as a character.
Following my previous comment about how much I hated Maxime as a villain, it's even worse considering the scales the previous villains were going for and how much Maxime becomes tame in comparison to them. Vector stole a national landmark without anyone knowing it was him (aside from Gru and Vector's dad), El Macho wanted to unleash his Purple Minions on the world (and if anyone tried to stop them, their cities would get eaten by the Purple Minions), Bratt wanted to send an entire city into space where they would possibly DIE due to lack of oxygen, Scarlet wanted to conquer an entire country and was going to kill ALL the Minions just out of hatred for Bob temporarily becoming king, Belle Bottom wanted to destroy the entire AVL along with everyone who works there and wreak havoc alongside all the other Vicious 6 members...while Maxime *just wanted to steal a BABY.*
To be fair stealing a baby is a pretty big crime but it definetly pales in comparison to kidnapping three girls + stealing the pyramid, caused mass destruction and committing genocide. (vector, el macho and bratt).
Heyo Beanii!! I honestly adore your videos, they are so fun and well-edited. I'm curious tho, Why do you hate the Good Dinosaur so much? I know It's an old movie but im so INVESTED in your opinion about it!!
I really feel like they underused way too much especially with the girls who were a key factor in the first film like margo didn't even get a scene like the karate scene with the other 2 like she could've had a scene in the school with poppy where poppy let on that she knew something. the mega minions who were the centre of marketing yet having them do absolutely nothing until the end of the climax where they show up after the villain is defeated made them completely redundant it would've been nice to see them show up in some big fight against the villain and his cockroaches. gru jr was there purely for comedic relief like remove him and nothing changes gru still has a reason to chase the villain after he is kidnapped because of his job as an AVL member. as for the villain it felt kinda sudden with the whole school bit of gru's history just being dropped. i just hope this is fixed with a minions 3 (bc we all know they're gonna do it) set in the school where the minions just make gru's school life hell for him. in total i feel they just completely flopped with their usage of key characters in the story. my favourite bit was probably all the endings purely because of all the callbacks to previous films in the prison such as scarlet overkill and the vicious 6
I was so excited when I watched the trailer for this and I even predicted they'd make a 4th film, But when I got it on DVD and watched the film for the first time I was so Disappointed I felt heartbroken
If dru was in the forth movie imagine the conversations he would have with Maxime and dru freaking out whenever maxime was a cockaroach and three minions on dru’s side
Poppy’s subplot is kind of cool but, there’s no reason for it to exist because it only takes away screen time that could have been given to Maxine. Maxine La Mal doesn’t do anything in this movie!!!
How I personally rank the movies 1.) Despicable Me 2 2.) Despicable Me 3.) Minions The Rise Of Gru 4.) Despicable Me 3 5.) The Minions 6.) Despicable Me 4
honestly I wasn’t too surprised that this movie wasn’t going to be great or whatnot. like the mega minions was what made me interested in this movie like the mega minions I think were pretty cool and unique, but they were nonexistent in the film which was severely disappointing honestly I think the concept of the movie is kinda cool but the movie is just so all over the place, it’s just so hard to focus on the characters and barely even using interesting concepts more i mean I like this movie more than DM3, but by only slightly
I've said it before and I'll say it again, no matter how evil and heinous the villain is the very *worst* crime a character can commit to make the audience want to see them gone is... to be boring.
This franchise is nothing but a cashgrab now. Despicable Me 4 is so painfully unnecessary, but illumination doesn't give a damn. Hell, now we got Minions 3 coming out
The downgrade in quality with the villains between the third and fourth movies is *INSANE.* Bratt was EASILY the best part of the entirety of Despicable Me 3, mainly thanks to Trey Parker's voice acting, while Maxime is pretty much the worst part of Despicable Me 4 in my honest opinion due to how unfunny he was and how *generic* his goal was.
They legit just added a whole subplot of super hero minions just to make a joke about super hero fatigue. I did enjoy the poppy subplot, I wish the whole movie would have focused on that, we have gru, a veteran trying to focus on his family and the baby, having to teach someone younger how to be a villain, and the kid did actually showcase actual admiration and respect for him as their plot advanced, it would have been a great 4th movie, but we're illumination and look kids, boohoo haahaa gugugaga parents give maneeyy.
"Despicable Me" is about family? So the "Despicable Me" franchise is actually a spin-off of "The Fast & The Furious" franchise?? 🤯 But that would explain Gru's haircut. 😉

Max was crushed.
*Maxime began to feel.... jealous.*
If a teenager went up to gru and blackmailed him in the 1st movie i can assure you gru wouldn’t let that one slide either.
Is it just me? Or are companies ruining themselves by miking Some of their great work.
Yes they are
So, Are you ready for Inside Out 2?
I promise it's way better than this.
Also, This was Disney's comeback, Did you notice?
Pixar's comeback, not Disney's
@@HydragonofDeath Oh, I see, Didn't saw that coming.
To be fair
stealing a baby is a pretty big crime but it definetly pales in comparison to kidnapping three girls + stealing the pyramid, caused mass destruction and committing genocide. (vector, el macho and bratt).
Are you gonna review Inside Out 2 next
No
Maybe when it's available on DVD seeing his usual review style.
At least Pharrell Williams did a fantastic job singing Double Life. We really don’t deserve his musical talent.
23:37 - Oh hey, Dru is there
Wait Warner bros made furiosa not universal
Love ur videos! Keep it up!
Thanks! 🩵
To me, "Despicable Me" fell off the cliff since the third movie. A shame this isn't great either.
I love how we built up a plot for Gru to have a twin brother just to not show/meantion him
Heyo Beanii!! I honestly adore your videos, they are so fun and well-edited. I'm curious tho, Why do you hate the Good Dinosaur so much? I know It's an old movie but im so INVESTED in your opinion about it!!
Found youyr channel and have been binging some of your movie reviews
I mean, illumination is bad because the audience clearly supports it.
They aren't the problem, *we* are.
I kid you not when i saw it in a theater the actual plot didn't kick in until right after the halfway interval
This Movie Is A Disappointment
But!
It's Better Than MegaMind 2
It’s not hard to be better than megamind 2 lol
Bar is in hell
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought the ending was pretty amazing.
I'm ashamed to say that this movie came out on my birthday
My deepest condolences.
At least it isn't "Terminator: Dark Fate."
Or Megamind 2.
14:33 ✨️The Gorls✨️
Poppy’s subplot is kind of cool but, there’s no reason for it to exist because it only takes away screen time that could have been given to Maxine. Maxine La Mal doesn’t do anything in this movie!!!
Why does the mega minions logo’s look like Mario’s hat logo 💀
How I personally rank the movies
1.) Despicable Me 2
2.) Despicable Me
3.) Minions The Rise Of Gru
4.) Despicable Me 3
5.) The Minions
6.) Despicable Me 4
honestly
I wasn’t too surprised that this movie wasn’t going to be great or whatnot. like the mega minions was what made me interested in this movie
like the mega minions I think were pretty cool and unique, but they were nonexistent in the film which was severely disappointing honestly
I think the concept of the movie is kinda cool but the movie is just so all over the place, it’s just so hard to focus on the characters and barely even using interesting concepts more
i mean I like this movie more than DM3, but by only slightly
Hol up, they should make megamind the villain for the next movie. Do a crossover. Get the megamind 2 we all deserve
The only thing everyone agrees to is that the song "Double Life" is the Best
i just binge watched all of your videos lol
I’m so glad I found your channel and I’m also a avatar the last air bender fan 🙏😊
Bro... after 3 or 4 decent movies, illumination just had to break the streak with this movie. But who knows, may be the next one can be a banger??
That sponsor was genius lmao 😭
"your dætah"
14:17 easly bother anythe gorls...
I've said it before and I'll say it again, no matter how evil and heinous the villain is the very *worst* crime a character can commit to make the audience want to see them gone is... to be boring.
To be fair in the case of the opening skit, the Mad Max films, aside from Road Warrior, never did well at the US Box Office.
Even though this movie is really old, can you do a review on how to train your dragon?
“Somehow”
It’s Illumination, most of the time they disappoint…
“Do think the minions were watching” WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAT?!?
They should've just recreated that Roblox game Despicable Forces in movie form that would've been freaking awesome
I rarely get physically sick by seeing something… but when I saw the cockroach man my stomach turned, AND I WAS EATING. 😢
Illumination works better with fewer characters (like in Super Mario or Migration). That means less subplots, better pacing and less pointlessness.
This franchise is nothing but a cashgrab now. Despicable Me 4 is so painfully unnecessary, but illumination doesn't give a damn. Hell, now we got Minions 3 coming out
The downgrade in quality with the villains between the third and fourth movies is *INSANE.*
Bratt was EASILY the best part of the entirety of Despicable Me 3, mainly thanks to Trey Parker's voice acting, while Maxime is pretty much the worst part of Despicable Me 4 in my honest opinion due to how unfunny he was and how *generic* his goal was.
But hey that’s just a theory a FILM THEORY
Hearing I swear (underwear) made me emotional
3:27 This is more frustrating when you know that Mac Guff the french animated studio behind Illumination made made for french animation cinéma MASTERPIEACE like « Chasseurs De Dragon » but no the ass holes producers who control Illumination want to force the talent peoples of Mac Guff to do terribly bad and lazy works
I think the best way to explain this movie is a bunch of illumination shorts smashed togeder
The first despicable me was good, the second was alright, then they overdid it
