I watched your " how to meet people in Japan" video and compared it to this one.. your fluency in English has significantly improved. You doing well. Keep it up
Great video Asagi! I'm someone who is hoping to teach in Japan, and I am currently in my final year of university, so I'm doing a lot of research whenever I can and honestly the subject of meeting people and dating in a totally new environment does make me anxious to some extent! (Especially since I come from a rather conservative country, and here dating is kind of weird and low key lmao) But that's why I've been loving watching your videos as it's really nice seeing things from the perspective of a Japanese woman. I'm doing my best to keep the mindset of: 'just take the leap and go with the flow', I hope that if I do make it over there, I shall not allow worries to get the better of me and look forward to meeting lots of great people! PS: You mentioned you wanted to make a video on how to meet people, do you still plan on making that? I feel that'd be quite the helpful video actually.
I went to Meguro Live Station on my trip to Tokyo to meet this girl and watch her band perform. She knew my brother and me from Twitter but I was the only one in town. I'm a decent looking guy but my brother is a male model and much better looking than me. I felt like I was her 2nd choice right from the start and that she had her heart on meeting my brother instead. The night was going well, then she told me that my brother was "very handsome" I was shocked she would tell me that!. About an hour later she asked me to buy her Mr. Big tickets. I agreed because I thought we would go to the show together. I got back to my hotel and found out that the show was still 2 months away and I would be back home. I then realized she only wanted me to buy her tickets!. This unfortunately set the precedent for other girls I met in Japan. My brother was their fantasy and I was the wallet..lol
Another great video! I agree 100% on your points. Can I add this...? The "shy factor" ... When Japanese girls giggle a lot while covering their mouth and nose.... I found it difficult to know if they were happy-flirting or giggling/laughing for "dame" lol!!! hahaha.. ;)
You are Absolutely Right, when it comes to limit talking about yourself on a first date. Remember, you went on a Date. to get to know each other, not just YOU...
Can't even remember my last first date( been married for thirty years)! What I'm looking forward to is being able to safely go out to eat in a restaurant again! 🍜 Nice video Asagi👍
Yeah we Americans sometimes tend to speak up and even interrupt. I do it by accident being a New Yorker it comes natural. Talking a lot about ourselves is a habit I've seen some have too, lucky for me I haven't picked that one up I'd much rather hear her talk about herself than talking about myself. Some these questions I noticed weren't Japan specific even though they tried to be in the phrasing of their question like "How can I tell if a Japanese girl likes me" or "Do Japanese girls like white guys with blonde hair and blue eyes" the answer would probably be the same as any other girl. "It depends". And questions pertaining to intrinsic social values I think those are more individual too rather than monolithic to a whole country or culture.
Great video, really helpful as I’m looking to move in the next two years. Look forward to the video on how to meet people in Japan as I think that will be the most difficult thing!
it isn't that difficult but you need to know Japanese. The more you know the better. To me the ultimate challenge is understanding group conversations. Everyone will use their native pace and even sometimes dialect when speaking so it can be extremely difficult if you want to join in on the conversation.
Foolish people always ask about finding someone to date... and more. The way to find a great partner is to keep making yourself a better person. If you can’t find someone, you better have a talk with yourself in the mirror. If your a man/boy go read the book “Fire in the Belly” by Sam Keen.
If you're in the US and you meet all 1 billion criteria including being both clean shaven and having a beard, having both short and long hair, being born a specific height you can't change, being a specific race (e.g. asian only if you want to date asians), and having lots of money and self-esteem such that you don't really need anyone and you're doing her a favor by even speaking to her, and beat the incredible odds to get a response from the first move you made (don't count on any woman making the first move; if they do, it's a miracle), don't make a restaurant reservation because most people don't eat on the first date.
Your comment regarding how to know if a Japanese girl liked you on a date, (quote) “She would get a little bit touchy … I’m not talking she would grab your ass kind of touchy” … really cracked me up ! LOL. I was drinking coffee at the time, and that comment was “GOLD” ! Your videos are very natural, insightful and informative. 6:30--7:02 Asagi gets emotional, LOL. We Americans can get a bit overbearing at times. Good video, with good advice for those who might live in Japan. I did notice that editing was especially nice, too. Ganbatte!
This was pretty helpful compared to the ones I just seen that made it seem more difficult to meet a Japanese chick. Honestly my biggest concern is the langauge barrier - been studying nihon-go for about 1.2 years so far, chotto wakaru ga chotto hanashimasu But it does seem like a big issue , and only if u find someone like urself or my Nihon-go no sensei that knows either English or a decent amount of English to be able to communicate effectively .. but ehh here’s hoping by studying for 2 years I’ll be almost 100% conversationally fluent 🤷♂️
Good video as always! And I don't think that Jenny will have any trouble in meeting a great guy sooner or later: it's a numbers game and she has the advantages of being cute, smart, and even a little bit funny! 😊
It is actually true. I went on a date last year with a japanese girl I met on Meet. And I was nervous so I blabbered all date. She spoke too, she spoke about her personal problems which I was happy. But the next day she stopped replying. and 3 to 4 days later she texted me to tell me that she didnt want to see me again becouse a I talk too much. Damn, I was nervous. I wish I saw this video before hahaha. The big problem is, In my country a date where there is no silence is a great date. Silence = Bad. What do you do in a Japanese date? Do you stare at each other while eating and drop a casual: Ii tsuki desu ne? So unconfortable.
Ohh I got you though! I think you can just ask questions that aren't just yes or no, so that she can talk. Japanese people tend to be silent until you ask things.
@@AsagisLifeNoBSJapan Yeah I was confused though. Becouse when I took her to the station and I was going to say goodbye. She started to poke my arm with her finger and grabing my sleeve and moving my arm. I never understood what was that. Did that mean she liked me or maybe she wanted to go to a love hotel, probably not since she didn't like me in the end. But you said that if women get touchy they like you, so she was either bipolar or im just confused.
I think you should maybe appreciate things around you like for instance music in the background. The reason you are nervous often equates to the fear of losing someone. The good news is you can always try to find someone else if it doesn't work. Try to just enjoy the moment with her and have fun. Crack jokes, tease her a bit. And one thing you can do while you wait is play something like thumb wrestling or something. Japanese girls seem to like that and especially the いっせーのせ game. If you show her that you know those games she will be impressed because of your knowledge of Japanese culture! But don't take one rejection too seriously. Take it as an opportunity to learn about the culture. There is practically an endless sea of people to choose from so don't worry if one date doesn't work out.

Good video Asagi! From a guy's perspective, Japanese dating apps are good, better than tinder imo. I find that I match with more "serious" women on there. It's hard to explain but sometimes tinder for example feels like everyone is just trying to practice English or "meet a foreigner because they are a foreigner". The only thing I don't like about the Japanese apps is that they are so expensive. From my experience, only guys are paying, which is interesting. Basically, you can get matches for free but won't be able to read or send messages unless you pay. And you have to pay a lot.
Good point. Seems like they are expensive to set the bar high because dating apps tend to have way too many guys compare to girls. (Pairs 7:3, With 6:4 etc.) If they are free guys would match less. That's kinda understandable but unfair from the gender equality perspective.
