I would have stuck both cords through the metal loop to make it stronger and then wrap the cord around the sewn part to keep that part stronger also and maybe add some strong glue cause i dont know if sewing it would be strong enough especially for a bigger dog. But thats just me
Pro Tip: As a fursuit maker myself I always use fabric ✂ to cut fabric! Also when sewing a project to be durable, I highly recommend A upholstery type thread for more reinforcement on heavier grade projects since the handle, and clip will experience more pulling and wear over time, so a stronger sewing and thread to hold and I recommend reinforcing the metal clip part.
