She scares me when she says "practice paintings", they look awesome! :~) It's really cool to see the difference between te two paintings and the effects of the choices that you have made.
You're such a card Louise. Always look forward to your end of video bloopers. Dont know how you find time to enrol in Skillshare classes as well as all you do in your day. I find things like pinterest consuming enough I had to stop watching. Love your fish they are so bright and beautiful thankyou for the tutorial. cheers from the west.
This fish was beyond gorgeous, the colors you pic were right on. Thanks for sharing, and all the laughter from the outtakes is just what I needed. Thank you
I have to try this. When I get back to work, I’m gonna sign up as a Patron. My 14 year old granddaughter loves fish, she has a fish tank in her room and orange is her favourite colour. Can’t be more perfect!
Thank you so much for including the outtakes! I love your tutorials, I always feel like I learn so much, but seeing your personality shine though the outtakes is an even greater joy.
First, love your watercolor paintings lovely. And your outtakes are so fun, such a lovely thing to see the behind-the-scenes. Making videos is truly a process and good editing! Bless you. ;-)
I’ve learnt so much from you here and on skill share, just wanted to say thank you. Always a pleasure spending time with you. You’ve taught me to loosen up and who doesn’t love that.
I was watching while eating breakfast (cereal with banana), and when you said in the out-takes, “120 sheets of cold-pressed…” and zoomed in on 20, I almost spit milk everywhere.
Louise, I just found your channel a few days ago. And I love it. Your work is extraordinary and your teaching is fabulous. Thank you, so much for your kindness in sharing.
Wow! You have sharpened your skills greatly! I have to say probably one of my favorites! Love 💕 the bold colors but still soft .. I really enjoy learning from channel! Keep up awesome work😊❤️💕
How lovely...this fish has sooo much movement, and the colors are so refreshing! I am reading Quiller's Color Choices, as you previously recommended, and am becoming enlightened. Now just practice, practice, practice. I continue to learn so much from your description of the process between your studies and finished pieces. Thank you for your instructive videos.
Thanks very much for the video and for the info. on paper. I have a suggestion for a topic - what to do when too much external sizing is put on paper making it tough to paint on. You are an amazing teacher.
A beautiful set of betta paintings and an amazing set of bloopers. 120 sheet block of paper, eh? Who needs a gym membership after hauling that around! I appreciate the much needed laughs!
I’m a beginner and use the Baohong academy 100% cotton paper in a block. I can’t find the grade you are showing but this paper is so much better than anything else in it’s price range. Leyton too offer 100% cotton paper in a block which is pretty good. They take quite some punishment😂
I’ve been doing a lot of Procreate tutorials, but what I really want to do is watercolor. I’ve done some online courses, and I keep coming back to you. I think I’m pretty much done with learning Procreate, so it’s time to switch! I’m just waiting for the beginning of the month.
I think the texture probably will lend itself better to watercolor pencil drawings. I think the Arches creates additional texture I’m not looking for. I’m using good pencils I believe, so we’ll see if the paper’s responsible.
I use CP Baohong (artist grade) and the experiences of using it are quite the same as like you said above, i love how it behaves and suits my painting style well. Just the texture is quite unique and obvious (i rate it as rough) compared to other cold pressed papers. Also it is cheaper, its a huge win. So far, personally, i have better experiences using Baohong rather than Arches. I personally feel that Arches is overrated. But we all have different painting styles and needs. Cheers!
I'm with you! I like Arches enough and I have a ton of it so I'll continue to use it but when I run out, I imagine that'll be it. Most of my paintings are on rough press- Saunders Waterford and Bao Hong Masters Choice. For finer detailed work I'll use Fabriano, Stonehenge or Arches CP and Ill use Arches HP, Bao Hong HP and Fabriano soft press for those occasional times Im doing botanical painting, using gouache or when I need a surface for calligraphy , cartouche, birth announcements etc. I'm glad to see people mention this paper. When I was researching it I found so little.
I have just found your channel and I’m so glad I did. I am very new to watercolour and found it confusing to work with. I work primarily with pastels and coloured pencils. Your tutorials were extremely helpful and informative, and easy to follow, thank you Louise.
I use the Masters Choice rough press and it's absolutely gorgeous. It feels hard sized to me, much like Arches, and the color looks exceptionally brilliant. I might just try the hot pressed!: Louise your beta looks incredible. I'd love to see a line drawing for this one.
Beautiful painting! I looked to see where you purchased the watercolor paper. I have some Arches, but I would like to try this other that you have mentioned, especially if I can save some money while practicing. Thank you again for a great video. You always get me inspired to try a different technique.
The outtakes have quickly becoming something I look forward to on your videos. This time I unfortunately I was eating my breakfast while viewing. One of my rescued cats, "Miss Jingles", was sitting on the arm of the chair, hoping there would be some goats milk left in the bowl I could pour into her bowl. I had just taken a mouthful of Coco Pops when You made me snort laugh, choke and spray her with the said combination from my nose and mouth ! I loved the video and learned a lot as usual. My cat 🐈 however, hates you.
Wonderful as always Louise! I was gifted a block of the Master's Choice paper from Parkers last year and was really impressed with the results as well!
Love your videos. Your colors are very vibrant and beautiful! You have absolutely the best and funniest outakes at the end of your videos. Do you teach absolute beginners in watercolor on Patreon?
Wonderful painting. I'm still struggeling so hard with watercolor and am fighting so hard with not giving up. I just hope that one day I will be able to paint like that.
Thanks Dom. It's not an easy medium to use. Once you begin to understand it - it's a lot of fun. I doubt I'll ever truly master it. I painted in acrylic paint for ten years and grew tired of it. I switched to watercolour and I'm still excited about it after using it for 11 years.
Oh Louise that has to be one of your best!!! The colours are gorgeous. You've really lost control !!!🤭🤭🤭 question...I cant get my colours to 'bleed' like you do...does the quality of the paper make a difference? Eg does it hold more water so the paint flows freely? Excellent thankyou🥰 PS I wonder how many people turn off before the end or as soon as the video is finished and miss all of the fun bloopers at the end..love them!!!
I know this is a year old so you may not see it. I don’t like Arches paper. My favorite Fabriano Artistico cold press extra white. I love the white through the paint and the paper lifts paint easily. Beautiful paper.
I personally would avoid Cinese products when alternatives are available. One of the reasons it is cheap is because they have no polluion controls and the carbon footprint is much larger.
If we all avoided Chinese products Australian imlorts would drop in a major way. If you're honest Im sure half your clothes, household goods etc come from there.... In relation to the paper I hear what Louise is saying, you cant keep using your expensive paper for test pieces and anyway...cheap is what I can afford and not what Louise calls cheap..what was it ?? $80 a book instead of $160.....lighten up Joel, we all do our best.
Joel is simply giving a recommendation for folks interested in helping the planet and being a little more conscious in product choices. I think the two of you are the ones who need to lighten up and be a little nicer 😬
@@coloredpencils01 Well, maybe some people come here for recreation and to get away from the everyday world. Maybe these people are exactly those, who care about the planet in a very sensitive manner and therefore need some recreation for their soul. Thank you for forcing your thoughts on people like me, who has already been doing the best to save the planet when being laughed at by the majority of people.
Louise, you have touched so many lives with your gracious sharing of your creativity, knowledge and talent. The area in which you (and many other great artists) excel is CREATIVE interpretation of a subject. This is where I struggle the most - going past the literal. Like so much in life, art is a series of decision making. In a workshop I took with the late watercolorist Diane Maxey, she often said, "You paint with your brain". You may have done this and I missed it, but could you please address your thoughts on the cyan/magenta/yellow color triad that is oft cited as a substitute for blue/red/yellow. I first read about it in a 2012 art book, but it was not widely discussed until recently.
how can I get your pencil drawings for your paintings. I love your work, but I’m just a beginner starting out. I would to be able to print out your drawings.
Good morning from the U.S., Louise. As a beginner, I thoroughly enjoy your tutorials on You Tube. After practicing for a while with inexpensive paints, I would like to purchase one really good set of paints. I can't buy them all to try, so do you have a favorite brand, ?
Ok that painting so beautiful. Practice painting just as amazing. My only concern about the practice paper is not being confident in the product. How will it stand up? Will it yellow? Will the colors fade? Only time will tell. No matter. You are so incredibly talented and your subjects are fun.
Love your work and so nice to see the background effects. Would you please provide me with a link to where you purchased the A3 Master's Choice paper from? Also good to see that you are so much better now and we can hear you clearly again, great work as always ❤🌹🐕
I cannot believe how expensive watercolor paper is in the UK. The block of 20 sheets of Arches 12 x 16" cold pressed watercolor paper is selling for $61.17 right now at Jerry's Artarama here in the U.S. That is slightly larger than A3 which google says is 11.75" x 16.5" or 297 x 420 mm. If you were talking about the Arches block costing 160 in English pounds, that would be like it costing $210.90 U.S. dollars. Even if you were speaking about it costing $160 in U.S. dollars, that still means that you are paying almost $100 dollars more for the same pad of Arches paper. I was on a Japanese website and thought I might pick up some Japanese 100% cotton watercolor paper at a good price. I expected the imported brands like Winsor & Newton, Strathmore, and Arches to cost a good bit more in Japan due to import taxes and such, but it cost a whole lot more; it was really expensive. But what surprised me the most was the cost of the Japanese brands of paper. The Japanese brands of paper were barely cheaper than the imported brands. The prices, compared to what I am use to paying in the U.S., are really high, really expensive. I am so grateful the prices for watercolor paper are more reasonable here in the U.S., even though I still consider them expensive; $61 dollars for 12 sheets of paper is still a lot of money if you ask me.
