Bringing in Ashely as the mother to Ellie was just the nod that we needed.
The nod that wrecked me. Knowing and loving both games and what she went through just made me feel attached to Ellie. Then being able to see her birth, by the person who played her character in the games no less… It was beautiful, and of course in typical TLoU fashion also fucking tragic.

Seeing Ashley today as Ellie giving birth to Ellie is something very poetic and it made me really emotional.

Having the voice of Ellie in the game play Ellie’s mom in the show is SUCH a power move and what a way to give that actress the respect and recognition she deserves for playing such an iconic role to now be the mother of the character she played. Like what a freaking full circle ❤

So lovely it still means so much to her. Ellie is an amazing and strong character performed to perfection by two amazing actors Ashley and Bella. Just wonderful. I wish we got see Ashley in more live action she's incredible.

This was so wholesome 😊 Ellie is my favorite video game character of all time and Ashley Johnson's portrayal of the character is a huge part of that. My expectations were high for the live action adaptation and Bella exceeded all of them. Such a phenomenal performance ❤
Selling it as just the voice is a gross understatement. She played Ellie, she's an actress, the game was fully motion captured.
It was so emotional seeing Ashley as Ellie's Mom. After 10 years I am still blown away by her acting in Tlou 1&2.

I really love how the actress who played Ellie in the games gave birth to Ellie in the show. I love the games and the show so much and the story really makes me question what I would do in these situations (in reality I doubt I'd survive that far lol but it's much more fun as a hypothetical than a real life situation)

Not voice actor. Ashley Johnson gave a motion capture performance. It always frustrates me how wrong media outlets and people get this all the time. Voice acting is amazing but they are two different things and motion capture work deserves to be acknowledged on its own. All Good Morning America had to do was some basic research about the game's development and they would have known it was motion capture.
But Ashley gave a motion capture performance AND is Ellie’s voice in the games.
The title of the video specifically says, "Ellie voice actor". She didn't just voice Ellie, she portrayed a fully motion captured character. Seeing the title I feel like people are going to think Ellie just voiced the character like you would for a cartoon show. When in reality she had to act out the scenes fully blocked and filmed like Bella did except through motion capture. So I think it is a distinction worth making to honor the work Ashley did.

to say “she’s the voice of ellie” she simply plays ellie in the game. her nuance and performance is captured and fully on the screen.

Do better research, GMA. Ashley Johnson was an ACTOR for the game. not just a voice. Extensive motion-capture with the funny looking suits happened to create the game. Everyone involved was an ACTOR. Don't reduce them to "just the voice."

I'm not going to lie, I hated Bella Ramsey for Ellie but she has done well, she still isn't Ellie really but she has made the part her own.
I knew they were gonna focus on making ellie alittle different yet keep the essence of ellie from the game in a sense ,they want to kinda separate the two ellies from the game and the series just like they want to separate the series from the games.
@@matthewlee4697 I get what you are saying but I have watched many vids and read many articles and have never seen this said, I'm not saying it hasn't I just have not seen it, contrary to that I have seen them say they have tried to stick the game as closely as possible in every aspect. The reality is they could have used anyone and it would have been successful as long as the actors could act, which in this case they can, but that does not mean there was not a better option for both parts.

To me personally they are BOTH ellie, Ashley helped create the character for the games with her involvement just like bella is helping to create the character for the HBO series with her involvement.
