Very nice video Dennis. I have a Yaesu FT-891 and like it a lot. I've been using it as my primary radio but have wanted to buy a full featured radio for the shack and make the FT-891 my field radio. The ICOM 7300 had had my attention due to it's overwhelming popularity and tons of good reports, however the Yaesu 991A is a strong contender as well. Side by side comparisons between those 2 rigs show he pro's and con's of each. However seeing your demo for the ATAS system now tips the balance toward Yaesu for me. It's pretty well established that having the tuner close to the antenna is the best location and ATAS makes that both possible and simple. Thanks again for the video.
hi you can find a lot of addons 4 the 891 if you want to use at home in the field bakpaking .4 home you can buy the fc 40 antenna tuner ,mobil you can huk the 891 with a fc 50 tuner.4portable just take a atas120a
Good point Charlie. We need not be discouraged conditions are not the greatest now but hopefully they will improve. I am licensed but don't have a radio yet. Also I want to take my general class license test but need time to prepare.
Excellent video Dennis. I always enjoy seeing gear demonstrated, especially gear which could make my life easier. Your Yaesu rig looks fantastic as well. The touch screen is cool.
Thank you for this video. I have a Yaesu 991 and I immediately pulled out the manual and I found the command you need to set up for the ATAS on my 991. One question I have concerns the instructions for the LDG-10. I'm looking at page 9 and there seems to be an error in the drawing. I think it has the connectors switched around in the right hand side of the RT-100 drawing. I wished you had shown the underside of the LDG-100 on your mast because I am presuming where it says "ANT" that is where you connect your jumper to the antenna that is mounted on the mast. The connector that says RADIO, that cable goes back to your FT-991A. I know this all should be obvious, but the instructions were translated from Chinese to English and combined with the drawing error, it is very confusing to me. I just want to be sure. Also, I use 2 MFJ Hamsticks on 40M with their mounting device with BOTH of the Hamsticks going vertical. The active one is straight up and the other or passive one is pointed down. This seems to work well in this "vertical" dipole mode or whatever you want to call it. 73s Dave WD0HHU
I don't want to stand in line with the "frequency cops" but as of today, LDG (Dwayne Kincaid, Tech) responded: "We would not use the RT-100 tuner in conjunction with the ATAS. Both are tuners and should not be used at the same time."73, Chip
Chip, he is not using the ATAS antenna with the LDG tuner, he is just using the ATAS tuning feature that is built into many Yaesu radios to tune a 17 foot whip with the LDG tuner. Normally the ATAS setting on the radio would be used to tune the ATAS antenna, but LDG allow that setting to power and control their tuner.
VERY NICE DEMONSTRATION, I HAVE THAT SAME RADIO, JUST GOT IT A FEW MONTHS BACK.. NOW WORKING ON GETTING MY GENERAL LICENSE.. 73.. FROM N3NDX... 07-20-2019..
Thank you for the Demo. I'm Very interested in this type of Ant. System Right now I'm looking around and trying to get feed back from any Experienced Sources such as your self..Thanks again 73's K4tts
Would anyone know what signals are sent down the coax (other than 12V power) to initiate the tuning cycle? I am building a remote ATU and wish to use this ATAS signaling to control it.
Sorry for the long wait, I missed seeing this question. Here is a link to the owners manual ldgelectronics.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/RT100Manual.pdf I hope you can find the info you are looking for there. 73 de VE3BF
How long is the coax to the rt 100 ? Ihave also yaesu ,last one is the FT 891. I work normally with the ATAS on the camper. but this is interesting to use with my buddipole trypod and the mfj 5M long whip;
in this video I was using what I had in the RV, the coax from the tuner to the antenna was 20 feet long and the coax from the tuner to the radio was 75 feet long. 73 de VE3BF
i tried this with my atu-100 autotuner. does this only work with the ldg? my 857 wont send out a low power carrier when on ATAS mode and ptt+up pressed. i have a remote mic with it.
I have the Chameleon Tactical Dipole Lite for an antenna. I purchased this tuner for my 991A and I can't get anything better than a 1:3 match on any band. Does the tuner work with wire antennas like the Chameleon? It has a 5:1 transformer (aka the Em-comm II) and 60ft of wire on either side of the transformer. Thoughts on that? Thanks!
Did you need some sort of counterpoise with the antenna? I suppose if I used a wire hung in a tree about 33 feet long 40 meters might be a better match? JK
The 17 foot whip did not have a counter poise the the 12 foot mast did act as a an offset and the wire to the station ground help as well. All this said this was a 5 minute antenna setup to test the tuners ability to make a match, the antenna was far from efficient but I did manage to make 2 contacts into Australia and 1 into New Zealand on 20 meters when the band opened up at about 11:30 pm. A 33 foot wire would work a lot better on 40m but this video was all about the tuner. 73
The antenna isn't connected to the receive section when transmitting. Either connected to the RX section or the TX section, but never both... 73 ki4cjj
Stop saying the band is dead! I make QSOs every day with 5w QRP. Maybe the bands are not in robust health, but they are far from dead. 73 Charlie, KM4ZZ
We are at the bottom of the solar cycle so conditions are hit and miss. There are still great contacts to be had but it's all about timing and mine has not been the greatest when I can film. 73 de VE3BF
hi good wideo to see this tuner in action it is a bulky configurantion to much coax prefer tuners made by yaesy 4 yaesu radios a friend distroyd his 897 toyng wit tuners and other stuff that presumaby works with yaesu
Thanks for posting about that radio looks like it would be something down my alley.
Brilliant feature of both radio and tuner 👍
Very Helpful, I didn't know about tuning with the mic key and button, I have just been pushing the tune button. Thanks

Thank you for the video. I have the 991A for portable also and I think it is great. That makes the tuner a good option
The 991 A is a great all in one radio. I would love to see yaesu bring back some version of the 857.

Thank you for the video, this is an excellence feature! It helped me to get this tuner.
Old video, I know, but did you test this on the RT-600 you had? Interested to know whether it might also work on the higher power model?
Excellent video Dennis. I always enjoy seeing gear demonstrated, especially gear which could make my life easier. Your Yaesu rig looks fantastic as well. The touch screen is cool.
Great video thank you. I got the RT600 and will try it with my FTDX-3000. Cant wait. 73s

Were you using any counterpoise wires??
Paul K1YOU
yes there are 4 16 foot wire radial drooping down at about 49 degrees.

I operate the 991A remotely (other side of the house). Is there a way to kick in the tuner without the mic (i.e. the MOX button for TXing)?
With a Yaesu FT-450 in ATAS mode and I only have the MH-67 mic (no up button) is there anyway to activate the tune cycle?

Denis...great video. Have you tested the ATAS 120 antenna with this RT 100 LDG Tuner?
No Ron, if you have the ATAS antenna you should not need a tuner.
Thank you for the Demo. I'm Very interested in this type of Ant. System Right now I'm looking around and trying to get feed back from any Experienced Sources such as your self..Thanks again 73's K4tts
I really enjoy your videos and have learned a lot. Quick question. Do you connect the whip directly to the tuner or also use a 4:1 balun? Thanks VY1GP
Hi Thanks for the kind words. No Balun used in this video 73
well explained thanks
Great Tip. Getting a Yaesu soon

Is the ground going from the tuner to the transceiver?
The tuner and the radio are grounded separately, you should never daisy chain ground connections.

Will the rt600 version work in the same way to mimic an atas?
I do not know for sure, I don't have the 600 to try out.

Also very interested in whether it will work with the RT 600. Maybe someone already experienced? Answer please.
Good as a demo but would have liked more info on tech specs eg water proof , 12volt operation ,etc. ...tnx vk5dx

I do not own an ATU-100 so I can’t tell if it works or not.

FT100/D etc also.
According to LDG yes. 73
the scope pauses when you TX? bummer, 7300 sure doesn’t.

david anderson must be the difference between super hed and SDR type.
Nicely done video. This is great! I have an 891 and have just used an LDG Z100 Plus for now, but this might be the way to go for portable. K8JLW
Thx for the vid.
Thanks for the video. Articulate and you know the tuner.
