    To become a Fighter Pilot for the United States Navy, you have begin with a college degree. From there, you will need to get a commission in the Navy as an Officer.
    Once you have your commission, from there you would go on to flight school, assuming you have a flight contract. Speaking of a flying contract... you will want to negotiate that with your Officer recruiter in advance if at all possible.

    I did 8 years in the Navy and got out in 2011. Joined when I was 22. If I had it to do all over again, I would have gotten my degree right after high school and then right off to OCS. I really enjoyed my time as an AD in the Navy, but with my fascination in fighters, I should have pursued my dream. Short background; I was an engine mechanic on the F/A-18E (aviation machinists mate) and was also high power/low power qualled. Getting to run those engines up to afterburner was very rewarding, but I would much rather have flown them. Don't let time get away from you. If you are thinking about doing it, nut up and do it!

      That's where I'm at right now as an airframer lol. I'm 19 and will more than likely put in a sta-21 package. Or go EOD if I get tired of aviation

      CamSayCam Well my dream career path is to go from airframer to EOD, to pilot. I figure if I can knock at-least two years worth of college using the TA I could do one enlistment as an EOD and still have enough time to get into STA-21 and get commissioned. Or not who knows?

    • @heathen_actual
      @heathen_actual 8 лет назад

      Analogmp3 not trying to knock your dream career path but if you do legitimately want to go EOD they're most likely going to keep you there the rest of your career just because of how much money they put into training their guys. Just passed my 4yr mark in the Navy and that's some of the knowledge I've gained. They put a shit ton of money into training those guys so my advice is to work hard, get through the training, then go EOD officer. it's a badass field man

    • @douglas_fir
      @douglas_fir 8 лет назад

      GunnersMate .45 Things change. I've been training for air rescue swimmer recently because that's what I decided I really want come hell or high water. If I end up getting a bachelors while still in the age range I may or may not put in a OCS package. More likely not. Either way I know what I wanna do when or if I get out.

    Earlier this year I was offered an appointment to the USNA, and I couldn't be more excited. I'm 99% of the way to earning my PPL, but I've heard I shouldn't really disclose this information when trying to get into aviation because I will be judged harder. What is your opinion on this? I've had a passion for aviation since I was 6, and while I'm sure this is just the beginning of it, it's starting to come to life. I really don't want to mess up the one shot I have at getting a fighter slot (or any other carrier based aircraft, that is). Also this video was quite informative to me. I've gathered just about all the information I can get on this subject, but it's always good to hear another point of view and some excellent advice. Thank you for your service!

    • @douggymac3539
      @douggymac3539  9 лет назад +17

      +AceInvader Fascinatingly...they don't play much into it at all. All you need to do is get accepted to OCS after college. You can't be a bottom barrel student and expect to get accepted, but you don't have to have a 4.0 either. Once you DO get in, you'll need to kick ass in your academics. My advice would be to build those good work ethic patterns now. ;)

    Hey Douggy Mac,
    I'm currently attending PA school on the Navy Health Services Collegiate Program (HSCP), and will graduate with my Master's in 2019. Afterwards, I'll go to ODS and owe the Navy 3 years working in Primary Care. I love medicine, but I've always wanted to become a Naval Aviator. My question is, is it possible to go from being a staff corps officer to getting a shot at being an aviator?
    I know the Navy recently started allowing PAs to enter aerospace medicine to become the flight surgeon for a squadron, which would send the PA through API and then primary flight training as part of the pipeline. Is that my best bet, or would it be possible to transition from the Medical Service Corps to becoming an aviator?
    My thought is that they wouldn't want to take a trained medical provider away from practicing medicine. Am I correct in assuming that my best bet is to get selected for an aerospace medicine assignment? Thanks for the help!

Does going into the Navy with the guaranteed flight contract like you said with flight experience already had give you a better chance at getting the aircraft you want?

    Good afternoon, I am a junior in high school and I have a passion for aviation. My grandfather is a pilot and I fly with him a few times a year. I’m a part of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps and I plan on attending a USNSCC ground school this summer and I hope to try and get my private pilots license before I go off to college. I am currently looking at NROTC in college and majors such as aerospace engineering or meteorology. My dream would be to fly helicopters or Fighter jets for the navy and I guess my question is whether or not my “plan” would assist me in this goal and if not what would you (or anyone who has knowledge in this area) recommend regarding what majors are beneficial to look at, how hard it is to get a pilot commission from NROTC, if I’m wasting my time trying to get my Private Pilots license, or any other helpful advice. Thank you:)

      *in addition: my grades have been very good throughout high school and I think I would have a good chance at getting an rotc scholarship, however, my parents aren’t letting me apply as they don’t want me to be “locked” into the military (😡 they don’t get). Would not having a scholarship play any role in not getting a desired commission?

      A four-year degree from an accredited college/university. The navy prefers degrees in a STEM major (Science,technology, engineering, and mathematics) such as computer science, biology, etc
