    I put together my first Ender 3 v2 this weekend. Took me all day off and on while also putting together my kids new toys, making dinner, & cleaning the house. Honestly, if you’ve ever built your own PC, you can assemble a printer.

    I started with an Ender 3... Whilst my first print was great, it went downhill afterwards. I started to get a hate relationship with the machine, it was getting out of hand... sucked my joy from 3D-Printing. I figured: man I just want some prints, I don't have a desire to become some 3D printing wizard. Got Flashforge Adventurer 3 and now its running almost everyday everynight and all the prints look, in my opinion, great! Later I also added the Anycubic Photon S Resin printer which has also been smooth sailing from the start. A year later I make many D&D prints, and sometimes even machinery parts on my Adventurer 3 and its become a big hobby of mine to model, 3D-print and paint.

    I could recognise so many problems with my Ender3 v1. You follow the manual and it looks like a printer, but... Things don't move like they should because the frame is not installed well... Bless the RUclips 3Dprinting channels that helped with the problems, without them I would have thrown the printer away I think XD
    But in the end, the experience was nice. It makes you really really proud if it DOES work after hours of tinkering. :D

    You better make that second video! On a more serious note: as someone struggling with an Anycubic i3 Mega, that was a 20 minute "set up" and ran perfectly from the first try - until it stopped, half a year later and now gives me a new problem, every time I put time and money into rectifying the current problem, I know how frustrating it can be.

    It may not be the most popular opinion, but I truly believe you get what you pay for. I bought a Prusa Mk3 kit 3 or so years ago, built it, and I've never had a single issue that I wasn't able to resolve in less than 3 or 4 prints. I've even added an MMU to it and the MMU sometimes gives me a few fits, but overall, it's been a rock solid machine. The only major issue it has had was when a wire on the hotend thermistor broke inside the insulation.

    • @BrunodeSouzaLino
      @BrunodeSouzaLino 2 года назад

      Thing is, Prusa printers are fairly expensive for what they offer. You're paying more for the fact some costs of it being fully open source land on your lap. Even their mini printer is more expensive than printers with three to four times the build volume, including some resin models as well. Those printers are more meant for production work than hobby. Creality seem to fill the hobby niche well at this stage.

    • @mitchelwb
      @mitchelwb 2 года назад

      @@BrunodeSouzaLino Ha! forgot I made this post. Interestingly, since then, I've picked up an Ender 3 Pro. It went together relatively easily... Knowing how the end product would work helped a lot though. I've not used it a lot yet, but even knowing what I was doing, I still managed to already drag the hot end across the bed sheet... Maybe a Prusa is a premium price, but that doesn't mean it's not worth it or that you aren't getting a solid value, especially as a rookie. I look at it like DIY plumbing. Sure, I can do it a lot cheaper than hiring a plumber, but the value comes from the plumbers experience even if the end result looks the same to an untrained eye.

    So I have watched some of your other videos but I am SOO happy you did this. I am currently waiting for my first printer to arrive in the mail and have been doing nothing but reading and watching youtube videos to prepare. The fact that it took you about a week or so to put it together and sort out the diagnostic... If this happens with me, at least it might give me hope in trying to continue instead of 3 days in tinkering off and on to no avail and then throwing my hands up and calling it a day. I realize that this comes with the territory, but I dont think other videos have really gone over that... or at least the ones that I have seen. It seems to be something that is brought up, but also glossed over. So thank you. And please give us more.

    For me that I'm new to this and started with a resin one, can say that setting the machine is easier but at the same time tricky. Because besides having issues with the leveling of the plate, I didn't notice that the film in the bath was not completely tensioned so It was giving me failures. Also more recently found that if you have the printer over a table that is not completely level it can also give failures prints. But overall it has been really fun.

    I built my first printer, a standard Ender 3, and the first print was fine. Had no issues except dialing in the z off set as it was printing the base for the first print. Unless something is broken, it's just user error, a little common sense goes a long way. Making sure belts are tight but not too tight, making sure that there isn't wobble or play along each axis, making sure the bed is level, this is all common sense

    Loved this video AJ and Danny!
    It's always nice to see new people joining the 3d printing community. I would like to see more content like this, where you invite newcomers to do common 3d printing tasks for the first time!
    I also found building the 3d printer kit from scratch the most challenging part of the hobby, it also took me a couple hours. After you learn how to slice in PrusaSlicer or Cura and print your first prints this hobby will become a lot more fun. You have to occasionally troubleshoot the slicer settings or the hardware for better prints, but that's a piece of cake after you get to know your printer.
    It's best to buy a 3d printer with an active forum or online community. Troubleshooting it will be far easier. If you buy a lesser known 3d printer brand or model you will be mostly on your own. Having a terrible first experience can discourage newcomers from continuing with this hobby, which is a shame.
    Don't give up and be patient!

Figured out a way to level for my machine while it's laying out a brim so I can tweak it on the fly. It led to a lot of stringy waste but I think I will finally be able to get the print. Even what Danny said about having to get new screws or even fixing the angry buzzing the printer was doing by swapping screws and tightening the belt makes me feel like "ah, yeah, no, I would've never thought of any of that and given up on the spot". That being said 3d printing would probably be the easiest solution for some ideas I have, so, things to think about

    My first 3d printer was a Prusa i3 clone I bought in 2015 which took me 2 hours to get the thing fully assembled from a box full of hardware and parts, It took me a few weeks to get the thing printing solid objects because it turned out the steps config file were off so even printing with 100% infill it was like it was only doing 25%.
    My second 3d printer was a Nova3d Elfin resin printer which was basically ready to go out of the box.
    My third 3d printer was an Ender 3 and it only took me half an hour to build with no issues other than one belt was too tight and another was too loose but they were my own fault which was an easy fix.

    When you’re printing something like that master chief helmet lower the model down on the build plate so only the top prints then import another one rotate it 180° and lower it down into the bed so you end up with the bottom half and the top half then simply glue them together. I’ve use this technique also when I have an error and a print fails instead of printing the entire thing over I just crop it like that and print the missing part. I have the same printer get the adjustable legs off Thingiverse they’ll help with the wobble.

    For the "warped" frame, it's not warped, it's incorrectly assembled. All 7 of my FDM printers came from the factory this way (they're all Ender 3s or Neptune 2s). You need to loosen the 4 bolts on the outside of the frame, and then push the frame down towards the table (make sure the table is flat). Then retighten the screws.

      My ender 3 (v1) had this issue, and it was my very first printer, and I was baffled that it could be assembled incorrectly, with no notes in the installation docs mentioning it. I get that these are massively cost-engineered printers, but this is a common issue that is pretty easy for new hobbyists to stumble into with no real guidance... Either there should be better documentation about squaring the frame, or it could engineer around the issue even with a simple 5mm cut into the extrusion (which, of course, would add cost...)

    • @williamremig6095
      @williamremig6095 2 года назад

      @@oasntet Indeed. Makes me wonder if they just hold it sideways, zip in the 2 screws....flip it over....zip in the 2 screws. If they'd just lay it on a flat surface before installing the screws, it would not be an issue.

      I just had a look at the assembly docs, and wow, they're really bad. You can just barely make out, on page 6, that the teeth are supposed to be on the inside. Pretty obvious if you've assembled another printer with better docs, but a newbie assembling this one could easily miss that.
      That said, I'm pretty amazed that benchy printed with what is essentially a friction-only belt. That might also mean the belt tension is extremely high, which could lead to missed steps, too.
