Sebab Turunnya Ayat Mengenai asbabun nuzul (sebab turunnya) ayat ini diterangkan dalam riwayat berikut: عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ إِلَى الْبَطْحَاءِ فَصَعِدَ إِلَى الْجَبَلِ فَنَادَى يَا صَبَاحَاهْ فَاجْتَمَعَتْ إِلَيْهِ قُرَيْشٌ فَقَالَ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ حَدَّثْتُكُمْ أَنَّ الْعَدُوَّ مُصَبِّحُكُمْ أَوْ مُمَسِّيكُمْ أَكُنْتُمْ تُصَدِّقُونِي قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ فَإِنِّي نَذِيرٌ لَكُمْ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ عَذَابٍ شَدِيدٍ فَقَالَ أَبُو لَهَبٍ أَلِهَذَا جَمَعْتَنَا تَبًّا لَكَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ تَبَّتْ يَدَا أَبِي لَهَبٍ إِلَى آخِرِهَا “Dari Ibnu Abbas bahwa suatu hari Nabi shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam keluar menuju Bathha`, kemudian beliau naik ke bukit seraya berseru, “Wahai sekalian manusia.” Maka orang-orang Quraisy pun berkumpul. Kemudian beliau bertanya, “Bagaimana, sekiranya aku mengabarkan kepada kalian, bahwa musuh (di balik bukit ini) akan segera menyergap kalian, apakah kalian akan membenarkanku?” Mereka menjawab, “Ya.” Beliau bersabda lagi, “Sesungguhnya aku adalah seorang pemberi peringatan bagi kalian. Sesungguhnya di hadapanku akan ada adzab yang pedih.” Akhirnya Abu Lahab pun berkata, “Apakah hanya karena itu kamu mengumpulkan kami? Sungguh kecelakanlah bagimu.” Maka Allah menurunkan firman-Nya: “TABBAT YADAA ABII LAHAB..” Hingga akhir ayat.” (HR. Bukhari no. 4972 dan Muslim no. 208)
Dalil-dalil yang dirujuk 1. Orang Yahudi percaya "uzair sebagai anak" Allah At-Taubah Ayat 30 وَقَالَتِ الْيَهُوْدُ عُزَيْرُ ِۨابْنُ اللّٰهِ وَقَالَتِ النَّصٰرَى الْمَسِيْحُ ابْنُ اللّٰهِ 30. Dan orang-orang Yahudi berkata, “Uzair putra Allah,” dan orang-orang Nasrani berkata, “Al-Masih putra Allah.” 2. Harta benda dan anak-anak melalaikan dari mengingati Allah. Al-Munafiqun Ayat 9 لَا تُلْهِكُمْ اَمْوَالُكُمْ وَلَآ اَوْلَادُكُمْ عَنْ ذِكْرِ اللّٰهِ Janganlah harta bendamu dan anak-anakmu melalaikan kamu dari mengingat Allah. 3. jangan patuhi orang yang suka bersumpah. Al-Qalam Ayat 10 وَلَا تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلَّافٍ مَّهِيْنٍۙ 10. Dan janganlah engkau patuhi setiap orang yang suka bersumpah dan suka menghina.
This surah is not about prophet Muhammad saw uncle. Its misunderstood. Every man has free will in this world whether you choose islam or not if you choose and do good deeds you will be rewarded and its same for the bad deeds. In quran allah swt never spoken about anyone before his death that he will be in zahannam. Quran speaks about groups of bad and good people but it never spoken about one particular person that he will be in hell before his death but the two points which comes only one time the person and zahannam its for Pharaoh after his death. So at the time of prophet Muhammad saw there were many cruel people than abu lahab and first of all his name was not abu lahab its his title. So why allah chosen him to be a hell prisoner before his death according to our mufassir. Because allah has not spoken about him its about pharaoh and his one of his woman servant or slave who is a kind and good woman. Because the ayat was in past tense its not about abu lahab watab means cut off. Pharaoh used to cut off the hands and made pyramids and he challenged musa and his people to ask your lord about mercy if he come i will see him and he is a liar that why allah gave him the title abu lahab and his servant promised moses that he will save moses from Pharaoh and she get stuck like something stuck in neck. So its a short stories of Pharaoh and the beautiful kind brave good woman who try to save moses from pharaoh. Hadith was not sahih bcoz abu hurairah and abdullah ibn abbas was not even born at that time or very small when this surah has been revealed.
