When I was 8, my parents forced me to grow out of Thomas and put it away cause it was “for babies”. Last summer, I got sick for the first time in 13 years and when I was sick, I remembered one episode “Henry’s Special Coal” and I watched that episode nearly 50 times over a few weeks because it helped me feel better. Because of that, I got pulled back into the Thomas fandom and it was the most wholesome fandom I have ever been a part of. Debates were civil, politics kept out of it, saying you like a certain part of the show isn’t a Scarlett letter. It truly is a fandom that I think more fandoms need to learn from.
As a Thomas lover as a child, I feel like I grew up in a golden age of the 2000s, quality products and tv show. Of course as I got older I left the fandom, then I discovered people using 3D models and maps to make their own stories and I’ve fallen in love again.
I’m am proud of the fandom making this to keep the Thomas and friends spirit alive and I love it that it inspires people to create things that makes Thomas so special after all these years THOMAS AND FRIENDS FOREVER ❤️
I think it was a really good idea for this fandom to completely ignore the new all engines go. Because otherwise people would constantly make hate vids.
I am so happy to see the mainstream media portray Thomas in a positive light without going "This is a show for toddlers and babies, grown ups who like it are weird!" (Despite DOZENS of Disney, Pixar, PBS, Nickelodeon, Universal, etc. shows and/or movies being aimed at kids and having grown up followings) or "Oh this show is too scary for kids!" This show helped me fall in love with trains.
well we could be technical (or cheating based on how you look at it) when bringing up Salty's Lighthouse, but if talking about true Tugs, then I agree with you.
Everyone from the age of 40 and younger has grown up with Thomas, and I guaruntee that none of them dislike it. You can't dislike it. It's impossible. I'm so glad to see the comments are supportive of this guy. Keep doing what you're doing.
I will agree with this. I, too, had a horrible childhood; my parents were always fighting. I often drifted aside towards Thomas and friends as my only place for escapism and comfort, and despite my parents making very little income, I've always stayed towards the VHS releases throughout my life.
you are insecure and you need to grow a fucking pair and leave your childhood (which mind you is still alot less shit than alot of other people's so honestly be greatful) in the past.
When THIS is big enough to be featured on the news, it’s clear that the fandom is keeping Thomas as something REALLY Special better than how Mattel is doing :) Also: 2:24, of course he grabbed and examined Thomas Tales From the Tracks, the final US Thomas VHS release.
People do know that adults make children's media, right? They can use their passion for the arts to work with animation, music, editing, model building.. I think it's wonderful and these creative individuals are not to be unfairly judged. The critics are likely bitter their life isn't adequately full
I was a Thomas fan for quite some time and was always a little shy about it. I love the show for its cute and calming nature and beautiful stories. It’s cool when people like him let others know it’s ok to love something you feel passionate about. Best of luck to him and his documentary
I still hold a special place in my heart for Thomas the Tank Engine. My dad and I didn’t have a lot in common but we did share an interest in trains (in particular model train sets). One of my fondest memories is when he took me to a train museum and we got to see some famous trains like Mallard and City of Truro.
Makes me smile. I can't help but feel at least some joy whenever Thomas makes an appearance on the news or another evening show. But to know that An Unlikely Fandom is getting some more recognition is something that I can help but feel hyped about!
As a thomas and friends/ railway series fan myself I can confidently say that This is a HUGE W for the Thomas fandom and I’m soo glad this was the first thing I woke up to. Bless the creator of the unlikely fandom along with everyone else in it, It really makes me proud to be a Thomas fan.
Wow! The documentary had made it onto the news! This makes me proud to be a Thomas fan for a long time. Even though that Mattel would stop at nothing to ruin the franchise in every shape or form, the fandom will always continue to grow vigorously with more quality content every year. Making sure that the legacy will be kept afloat for years to come. I’m happy to attend to the premiere of the Unlikely Fandom documentary up in New York City, and I’ve got all excited coming there to meet the crew who worked on the documentary, the fans of the community and people who created the Thomas show and Shining Time Station like Britt Allcroft and Rick Siggelkow. It was one of the happiest and most monumental days of our Thomas fans’ lives.
3:45 i never got embarrassed to show everyone about thomas even as a little kid i still love this show ever since 2006 i grew up with the hit era on discovery kids. The classic era is also good. Along with the cgi series. So i still like thomas to this very day
Thomas still has a place in my heart. I grew up with the original show that used the model trains instead of cgi. I even have a toy from the wooden railway series I keep as a desk buddy. Reminds me that not every day is a bad one, just gotta get the work done.
wow, only 2 comments? (well 3 now) that beside, I'm glad to be here in this fandom, even though things have not been very good for Thomas in recent years, you can't help but just love him!
I grew up with thomas the tank engine and that has sparked my love for all things steam powered and all things trains. Now I get to work on old steamships as an engineering officer. It has been a lifelong dream. Without Thomas, I wouldn't know where I would be today. So, God bless you Britt Alcroft.
yoo!! as someone in the thomas fandom, im amazed this made the news! i wasnt a part of Unlikely Fandom as a production and didnt get to go see it myself, but im friends with people that did go see it, and this is simply amazing!! I actually got back into thomas as an adult, one of my friends played the chatracter themes on a Discord voice chat one day and it just set the ball rolling from there. May the Thomas fandom never die!!
That is one of the best news stories I've ever seen and it does take me back to my early childhood where I first watched "Thomas And Friends" at "Shining Time Station" and I still watch that show today as a young adult. If you're seeing this Britt Allcroft, thanks for bringing Thomas And Friends to television. One more thing, I hope "An Unlikely Fandom" will win the 97th Academy Awards for Best Documentary Feature Film.
I used to have Thomas the Tank Engine toys, but I never became a huge fan of the show. But even years later I still find the show just whimsical and fun :) (Unfortunately I was a Chuggington kid since I watched that more lmao)
To say that Thomas was made for all ages is an understatement. Thomas has made such an impact on all ages, especially adults because it talked about many serious issues, death in the way of scraping, saving your railway from going out of buisness in Gallant Old Engine, which many kids may not understand and was a call or nod to the adults watching the show with their kids. The creativity and support of this community is amazing, all just because of a man’s son got measles. And to those who are making fun or putting someone down because of their love of Thomas, you don’t realize the passion of the person your making fun of, someone who, one day, could make an amazing achievement. Our community is unbreakable, road to 80 years!
I'm 20 yrs old. Me and this guy would get along just fine. He proved a point to people that Thomas is more than just a kids thing. That it actually teaches people things, that it just comforts people like myself.
Never been so proud for the passion of thomas getting known by fans and the true inspiration that had effect on our childhood lives. Thomas is not just a kid franchise, it's what makes it unique and how its stories been told. Thomas is for all ages as Wilbert wanted it to be. Thomas forever. 1# 💙
Its a huge shame that I (and Surely a few others) couldn’t attend to the Unlikely Fandom event, as a massive Thomas fan I would’ve love to see TV Creater Britt Allcroft, ask her so many questions and even get her autograph or picture! She really brought Thomas the Tank Engine a lot of charm that I hold dearly in my heart and I still have yet to make videos of them on my channel! I really hope this Documentary gets put on streaming service real soon!
This is very inspirational, seeing a person who is genuinely themselves, and had the courage to share his love for a franchise to the world. God bless him
It's the Thomas fandom itself that's helping to keep the spirit of the franchise alive, the way Britt Allcroft wanted.

I’m so proud to be part of this fandom because Thomas is the sole reason why I got into trains 🚂 in the first place!
I’ve been a huge Thomas fan for over 20 years!
We love you, Thomas.
“Am I in it?” asked Frank
omg hi matt
Rex: Sorry Frank!
Better luck next time!
WE DID IT BOYS THOMAS’ MESSAGE IS GETTING OUT THERE TO THE NEWS
I’m am proud of the fandom making this to keep the Thomas and friends spirit alive and I love it that it inspires people to create things that makes Thomas so special after all these years
THOMAS AND FRIENDS FOREVER ❤️
I wish Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends could be use for something else for another company like maybe Disney or Hasbro
@@vanessasandoval96 Definatly Hasbro
Hasbro actually cares about their products!
This fandom is literally now making Thomas seasons after pretty much everyone abandoned seasons 25 and on.
Thanks to $@#! MATTEL
I think it was a really good idea for this fandom to completely ignore the new all engines go. Because otherwise people would constantly make hate vids.
I’m so glad they showed the good stuff.
And not the garbage stuff
I am so happy to see the mainstream media portray Thomas in a positive light without going "This is a show for toddlers and babies, grown ups who like it are weird!" (Despite DOZENS of Disney, Pixar, PBS, Nickelodeon, Universal, etc. shows and/or movies being aimed at kids and having grown up followings) or "Oh this show is too scary for kids!"
This show helped me fall in love with trains.
So happy that I got to be a part of Carty's passion project, and I can't wait for you all to see it too!
Is this the first time Tugs has been on TV since 1989? Albeit it’s just a merchandise cameo, but it’s something.
well we could be technical (or cheating based on how you look at it) when bringing up Salty's Lighthouse, but if talking about true Tugs, then I agree with you.
Never watched Thomas but I hope that this documentary gets the recognition it needs.
Everyone from the age of 40 and younger has grown up with Thomas, and I guaruntee that none of them dislike it. You can't dislike it. It's impossible.
I'm so glad to see the comments are supportive of this guy. Keep doing what you're doing.
I’m 17 I grew up with Thomas the rank engine. Favourite show as a child and loved playing with the toys.
Thank you so much!
I was not expecting to see Unlikely Fandom on the news but I’m glad that it is
"But i just got to show this in front of 250 people in New York with the creator of Thomas The Tank Engine there, so who's laughing now?"
raw as FUUCK
Me and my mother LOVE Thomas The Tank Engine! She and I watch it whenever one of us are having a bad day
Tomorrow is the 79 anniversary
@@vanessasandoval96 Ooh! Thanks for telling me 😁
@@cozykat12 well I think maybe thoughts about why Thomas and Friends could have be used for something else like Disney or Hasbro
@@vanessasandoval96 As much as I love Disney, I firmly believe Thomas and Friends would be much better in the hands of Hasbro. But that's just me
I will agree with this.
@@yeoldeseawitch sounds like someone's a little cranky.
When THIS is big enough to be featured on the news, it’s clear that the fandom is keeping Thomas as something REALLY Special better than how Mattel is doing :)
Also: 2:24, of course he grabbed and examined Thomas Tales From the Tracks, the final US Thomas VHS release.
People do know that adults make children's media, right? They can use their passion for the arts to work with animation, music, editing, model building.. I think it's wonderful and these creative individuals are not to be unfairly judged. The critics are likely bitter their life isn't adequately full
Im 14 and since when i was 4 Ive been a thomas fan since that happen thomas will forever be my childhood
Tugs in the background
I was a Thomas fan for quite some time and was always a little shy about it. I love the show for its cute and calming nature and beautiful stories. It’s cool when people like him let others know it’s ok to love something you feel passionate about. Best of luck to him and his documentary
I still hold a special place in my heart for Thomas the Tank Engine. My dad and I didn’t have a lot in common but we did share an interest in trains (in particular model train sets). One of my fondest memories is when he took me to a train museum and we got to see some famous trains like Mallard and City of Truro.
this is so awesome, as a Thomas fan this is SO COOL
I remember Thomas the tank engine. I loved that series too. It meant so much to me.
I love that a news publication picked this up!
I love being apart of this fandom
Very proud to be part of this amazing fandom! It doesn't matter how old I get, I'm always going to love Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends!
Bro im nearly 25 and i still love Thomas so much
I used to LOVE Thomas as a kid. Nothing wrong with showing love to "kids' stuff," for there's always an inner child somewhere in one's heart.
Makes me smile. I can't help but feel at least some joy whenever Thomas makes an appearance on the news or another evening show. But to know that An Unlikely Fandom is getting some more recognition is something that I can help but feel hyped about!
As a thomas and friends/ railway series fan myself I can confidently say that
This is a HUGE W for the Thomas fandom and I’m soo glad this was the first thing I woke up to.
I’ve loved Thomas since I was a kid and I always will. The ingenuity and creativity is something I always enjoyed as well as the comfort aspect.
And I thought news saying it’s like Michael Brandon or just Brandon
Fellow Tank engine fan here: YES! Bring back classic Thomas!
Congratulations guys. We made it on the news.
Yea now Mattel has to get out attention!
Soo ok happy to be here with everybody else and that a news station picked up on the wonders we are into . I do hope this fandom stays for a long time
I grew up with thomas the tank engine and that has sparked my love for all things steam powered and all things trains.
Disney characters are likely to Thomas
Mickey Mouse Lightning McQueen Mater Toy Story gang Tinker Bell and friends
That is one of the best news stories I've ever seen and it does take me back to my early childhood where I first watched "Thomas And Friends" at "Shining Time Station" and I still watch that show today as a young adult. If you're seeing this Britt Allcroft, thanks for bringing Thomas And Friends to television. One more thing, I hope "An Unlikely Fandom" will win the 97th Academy Awards for Best Documentary Feature Film.
I have and always will love Thomas the Tank Engine. I love this fandom for keeping our really useful engine alive!!!
I used to have Thomas the Tank Engine toys, but I never became a huge fan of the show. But even years later I still find the show just whimsical and fun :)
(Unfortunately I was a Chuggington kid since I watched that more lmao)
the fact that this is 5 minutes long surprises me great job to the fandom and thank you for airing this!
the fandom has kept this flame going, proud to be a fan of our little blue engine
we will keep that firebox lit!
Don't worry man
We'll make sure Thomas's fire continues to burn bright!
Nice to see this documentary getting attention! I’ve been following it in hopes of getting to see it!
I can't believe I stopped watching my favorite childhood show. I miss him...
It’s never too late to come back.
This is very inspirational, seeing a person who is genuinely themselves, and had the courage to share his love for a franchise to the world. God bless him
As a Thomas fan I can confirm you’ve been spared from being hated on
hallelujah!
Hold on to your childhood! I still have all my toys from the 80s and will always treasure them!
I can only imagine how this coverage would have gone if it were back in 2010
It doesn't mean you're immature. If you grew up with the originals, it made you a 90's kid. If you grew up with the HiT era, it made you a 2000's kid.

This is so surreal to see, each passing day I'm more and more hyped for this doc since it was announced back in 2019.
The happiness I’m feeling makes me wanna cry! Also I love being from the Carolinas
DUDDDE WERE ON THE NEWS
i grew up with this it makes me cry in joy of how far we made it
