How do you stop slants or the mesh route with 2 read. Do you rely on the mike picking up the crosser while he’s watching 3 out of the backfield ??

If the RB pushes, the overhang will match him, letting the Mike work to match the new #3. That is called a "Push" Alert pre-snap. With the overhangs playing a Wall-2 (no push), they should be able to cut off any Slant as long as they don't climb too high with a vertical by the Slot. Mesh should be handled with the 3 underneath players.
