Are you sure you are using HE against that 109? The HE hit puffs usually are black clouds not that light grey/white color you got there. As for using it in air combat, it's actually not too badly modelled. I have shot down around 40 109/190s both in single and multiplayer and maybe one or two of those survived more that 2 hits. Most kills are one shot kills with wing offs on 109s, shot off tails on 190s and engine fires if you hit that area. Even if they survive the first hit, getting a second one isn't too hard since they don't fly well anymore.
Starpor the appearance of the explosion is not normal, obviously, so judging from the explosion clouds is not possible. Yes it was HE. I’ve had both success and failure with this gun, but it’s most inconsistent when hitting the fuselage and tail section. Sometimes if I hit a wing it’s wing off, other times not. It’s quite different from my experience with the same gun in the LaGG3. I think they’ll maybe tweak the DM in the future. Maybe. For all I know this is accurate.
@@chuckbarney3945 Oh ok that's wierd. Something might still be wrong with the 109s tail. When you shoot a 190 dead six it looses all its tail wing surfaces but the 109 sometimes just doesn't care, it doesn't even lose control surfaces.
Very good

even a .50 bmg can penetrate 15mm of armor
Yeah, there’s no doubt. I’ve done it myself IRL.
