After 2 years my book Getting Started with FPGAs is now available for order! This is by far the most comprehensive and best content that I've ever put together on FPGAs. This book is for anyone who wants to learn about how FPGAs work, their strengths, their weaknesses, and how to master these fun digital devices.
If you have no FPGA experience, or if you've done several designs, this book is full of great knowledge for you.
Thank you all for your patience while I was working on this. I'm back!
Table of Contents:
Chapter 1: Meet the FPGA
Chapter 2: Setting Up Your Hardware and Tools
Chapter 3: Boolean Algebra and the Look-Up Table
Chapter 4: Storing State with the Flip-Flop
Chapter 5: Testing Your Code with Simulation
Chapter 6: Common FPGA Modules
Chapter 7: Synthesis, Place and Route, and Crossing Clock Domains
Chapter 8: The State Machine
Chapter 9: Useful FPGA Primitives
Chapter 10: Numbers and Math
Chapter 11: Getting Data In and Out with I/O and SerDes

Congrats.
I miss your videos. Hope you come back with them
If you need a license for iCEcube2 email me contact@nandland.com with your MAC address and I'll get you one. Lattice changed their license form. Sorry for the inconvenience!
I can highly recommend this book. I've been working through it for a couple of weeks using the Digilent Basys-3 and Arty-A7 boards together with the Vivado design suite (simply because I already had those boards & software, otherwise I would have gone for the Go-board).
The explanations are clear, easy to understand and follow. So far, now at Ch. 5, no typos 😃
already have it, absolutely fantastic work, I got it when I found out I'd be doing more direct FPGA stuff at work, and it has already helped me work through figuring out how to make the transition between small simple stuff and larger designs
Already bought it! Super helpful - especially for someone new to FPGAs
Highly recommended! I got a copy during Christmas and been using it together with a pico-ice FPGA board.
Very easy to read and full of tips and advice from someone who clearly has a lot of practical/work experience.
Many thanks for writing this book!
Awesome! I’m going to buy it today. I tinkered with the go board years ago and it was very beginner friendly. What a great excuse to get back into FPGAs.
I want make laptop sio ite chip programmer i want use atmega328 14.7468mhz crystal & altera max ii. Can you help me please please please
this book was exactly what I needed, I actually just finished working through it a few days ago. 10/10 would recommend for anyone getting into FPGAs
Just bought it. Looking forward to it!!
Russel you are one of the best teachers I've ever read a book from (I finished it already). I'm a computer scientist at heart and I'm trying to get some hobby projects at first done and then want to transition into HFT. What further would you recommend me to try ?
Bought it. Great book!
Got the pre-order a few months ago and a Go board to go with it, fantastic way to learn for beginners! As a mechanical engineer with no experience nandland has been my go-to resource, thanks Russell!
Just ordered it, looking forward to reading it.
Wow! I'm so glad you made this I am already buying it! Congratz!
Any coupon code to buy a GoBoard 😂
Ordered a board and a book cheers from Australia
I have a handful of books in my FPGA library already, but I bought this one too! Great stuff and love your videos!
Cool beans. Congratulations on becoming an author. We knew you could do it!
How to program chip .only board or external tool ?
Awesome book! I have it and the go board and have been working through the book for a bout a month now. Perfect for beginners in college or professionals curious about FPGAs. I highly recommend this book and your dev board!
Thanks for this, I miss your videos also
Soo good to you see you sir. Now I think we can expect more content from you? 🙃🙃
Congratulations on your new book! I can't wait to read it. 👍🏻
I learned a lot of VHDL from your site back in the day. I got the book just to return the favor, thanks. I don't understand this book was available months ago but this video is from an hour ago. One wonders what caused this latency.
Amazing courses, amazing board and amazing book! The IceCube2 is no free anymore and this is insane :S Russel, I've emailed you with my mac, please drop some response when you got a sec! Thanks for everything you do!
Thanks for the email. I'll make the request thru my Lattice contacts for the license. Thanks for your patience and understanding, this should be fixed soon (fingers tightly crossed).
@@Nandland Thanks for the response!
FPGAs!
I'm missing new content from you Mr.Nandland! You are the best teacher I've ever seen for all FPGA-related topics. Please consider making more youtube videos! I bought your book btw.
You’re awesome
Hey Russell. Bought your book. Really nice at first glance. I hope more videos in 2024 from you as well!
Thank you for all that you do! I am learning incredibly soo much from your videos and I will definitely grab a book from your web :)
The Canadian price seems a lot higher after currency conversion. Whats going on?
What if I want an iCEstick or TinyFPGA?
I bought this book when it first came out and finished reading it a couple of weeks ago. I highly recommend. My only critique is that I struggled with understanding the syntax and which there was more emphasis on syntax.
Sir can you please help me out shall I start with verilog or something else for the VLSI industry
Man, long time no see. This community should be thriving.
I can program hello world in python. Can i build a fpga dac by reading ur book?
I followed your excellent videos on fpga's and got your board a few years ago. I will be sure to grab the book.
awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations!!!
I miss your videos.
Can you write code for me altera max ii parallel programmer bidirectional flip flop 8 bit read write.
Great, thanks!
Thank you! I got them both. Looking forward to spending some time with them this year
nice! Just ordered the book and board, thanks!
Wish you the best and for your book !
Great news! Congrats.
Holy cow I thought you died
Thanks!
i'm not dead yet!
"....FPGA Friends...."
HEY! He's back!
its 2024, no one reads instruction manuals
RTFM🤣
aren't you afraid many people have given up on the GO-board after the initial video's that were published? that flow dried up at some point, as I see it
Sales have literally never been better. Still going strong!
@@Nandland Okay, I really missed new projects/tutorials on youtube for the GO-board. But looking at the responses from others, they are very positive on your book: congratulations!
@@tono_01 Note that icestudio software from Lattice supports the Go Board.
Congrats!!!
👍❤
What's the use of buying a book if you can't get an FPGA???
why can't you get a FPGA dev board?
@@ct1igu401 can you get a Digikey iCEstick or a TinyFPGA? No? Then I hope your question is answered.
@@ct1igu401 my comment is getting deleted...
@@ct1igu401 can you get your hands with a TinyFPGA or iCEstick? Because they have been out of stock for months now, almost two years, imagine publishing a product that you can't buy, what's the point??
👏👏👏♥♥♥
