Speaker Biography: Cristiane Franca is a clinician-scientist with a Ph.D. in Oral Pathology and post-doctorate in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine. She is a Research Assistant Professor at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), where she holds joint appointments in the School of Dentistry and the Cancer Early Detection Advanced Research center (CEDAR) at the Knight Cancer Institute. Dr. Franca develops, optimizes and applies organ-on-a-chip devices to investigate the interplay of cells and the extracellular matrix in the context of biomaterials testing, cancer development and further disease models. Her work encompasses the development of the first ‘Tooth-on-a-chip’ to emulate the biofilm-biomaterial-dental pulp interface, vasculature on-a-chip models to understand the mechanisms by which blood capillaries sense collagen changes in fibrotic conditions, and a bone on-a-chip platform to investigate head and neck cancer invasion.
