I love Yanks and the work he has done so far, but his take on the flag bearer issue is dumb because UDP hasn’t won in more than 20 years under Darboe. The essence of creating a political party is to win elections. These self serving takes are destroying the country because some members of UDP are callous in their views of having only Lawyer Darboe as the flag bearer and he’s lost all the elections he partook in since 1996. This notion that without Lawyer Darboe who by the way, I respect a lot, is the only person who can lead UDP without whom the party will be shattered pieces is demeaning to the party. This is basically telling us that the party is rootless and not adaptive. The UDP party has a lot of educated and patriotic people that can be chosen to remove Barrow before he destroy the country with his ignorance. You have to choose the country over your party and if it means Darboe moving aside and give chance to one of these upcoming and competent members to lead, so be it... What Yanks is alluding to, is basically saying without Darboe the UDP party will cease to exist. If this is true then we are in for a rude awakening. We need a competent person as our president before the country gets destroyed. Saving the country should be bigger than Darboe and this is not to say that I don’t have the utmost respect for Darboe.
UDP formed a camp within the 2016 coalition, they never cared about the consequences and eventually kicked the 3 years agreement into the bin. Until present, they've never owned up to the fact that they put us into this mess. UDP should have been running since 2020 had they respected the 3 years agreement.
