    Morey Amsterdam didn't actually write Rum and Coca Cola. It was written by Lionel Belasco (Venezuela) with lyrics by Lord Invader (Trinidad). Amsterdam copyrighted it in the United States,
    and after years of litigation he lost and had to pay damages. See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rum_and_Coca-Cola
    ...the fact that we still see people claiming that Amsterdam wrote it shows that once a lie becomes embedded in the popular culture it's hard to set the record straight.

      Not even the dignity to acknowledge that fact speaks a LOT about his lack of character.

    Thanks for keeping the interview as focused as possible Morey! Skip doesn’t pay attention to answers or have follow up questions, horrible.

    9:30 that's so interesting "young performers have nowhere to be bad" - I wonder if this is coming back nowadays where young performers can experiment on social media or if it's even worse now because the permanence of a post means there's more scrutiny

    Morey wrote the sanitized American lyrics to Rum and Coca Cola but he was not, by any means, the originator of the song, the title or the concept.

      After doing some research, it appears that Amsterdam plagiarized at least part of the lyrics. In the interview he seems to indicate that he won all the lawsuits. He did not. Below is a link that will give you insight into the case. It is disheartening, but it gives you insight into Human Nature. mcir.usc.edu/cases/1940-1949/Pages/baronfeist.html

      Morey wrote squat. He copyrighted the song in America after hearing it in the West Indies, where it was already popular.

    Amsterdam is conveniently LYING about writing the song. He won the case of being able to hold the American copyright of the song and the ORIGINAL writers (Belasco & Invader) won their case for back royalties. Amsterdam could now claim that he was the sole write since the original writers died in the 1960s and this clip is apparently from the early 1980s (A Soldier's Story film reference).

      @origvincecarter3843 Год назад +1

      @@ashleyisachild I have named them in my post. They were local Trinidadian, popular musicians. It is believed that Amersterdam heard the song while serving in the military, there, modified they lyrics and PUBLISHED the song in the U.S.A. as his own work.

    Morey was rather rude...I totally have respect his ability to entertain, which he did well, but his personality here was a bit rough. Love the Andrew sisters especially, Patty. 😇 makes one a bit sad that I missed this era, and melancholy, when thinking back at the eras I did enjoy, especially the late 70’s and 80’s. Just look at the condition we are in now, it being 1/ 2021 and what the world is facing politically. 🙏🏻🇺🇸

      Patty was great! Morey was alright, I suppose. A real old school vaudeville comic(I pefer the Marx Bros). However, I didn't/don't share his enthusiasm for Reagan.

      And just to think that Regan was the catalyst for all of it.
