Contact paper from the dollar store does nearly the same thing as laminating! I tried the cash system for a while but couldn't stick to it because I had so many categories. We just used our debit cards exclusively and once we figured out where we could trim to save more we created a budget which we have been sticking to for six months now
That is a great tip about the contact paper Jenny Bean . Glad to see you did find a way that works for you to trim some spending and save more. I an anxious to see if this system will work for us, thanks for watching & commenting :)
Thank you so much! What a great idea, will be putting it to work soon. Must get the tabs and index cards.
msdikova23 yes it's been working out great--almost 6 months and I love it. Super easy to make the tabs too :)
A very good idea! All this time I was looking for wallet with at least 7 sections for money and it's hard to find one. I'm surprised I haven't thought about using laminated index cards. Thank you for the video!
+Shanti Sukmawati you are so welcome!!!
Thanks to you and OCD much, I gave in after 6 months and ordered the TB wallet, LOL. I think I will try doing as you guys do, I use cash most times, but don't actually section it out...will give it a try.
Mikia Cotter oh you are going to love that wallet. I switch between my grey and black ones. Love it so much and it feels like butter bc the leather is SO soft!
That's what I'm scared off, cause then I'll want another colour or two for when I need a change, LOL. I went with black for a neutral classic look. Can't wait for it to arrive :)
Mikia Cotter can't go wrong with black! Hope you love it mama!
I love the way you organize your wallet I think I will try this system It seems to be so easy and convenient.
janzig1 Thank you! I know I love it too, and it does seem to just make sense! Let me know how it works out for you!
Thanks, great video. Just FYI, you can purchase the self seal laminating sheets by Scotch in Walmart & have it at home for when you need it. It will save you travel time & $$ on gas. I love the wallet. God bless.
Thank you so much, very helpful!!! God bless you too!
I like your idea. I would like to be able to write and make notes on the index.
You are so smart. !!! Thank you for sharing. What catagory do you put your cat needs in ? Just wondering....
Grocery 😁
Great job Leanne! Good idea on the index card
Thanks Mikia Cotter but I can't take the credit, I got the idea from ***** since I already had the wallet coming it just ended up working out!!
Really like that cash system. I was also inspired by other peoples' videos, too. Just subscribed. Thanks for sharing your set up!
Hi Sustainable135 I love RUclips because you get all kinds of inspiration and everyone has their own take on things, thanks for the comment & welcome to my channel :)
Lol my fiancé gives me mommy money too. I agree about having an extra section for coupons. It does help to have them visible. :)
sara rosario I agree and so many times I've been at the grocery store and just grab my wallet and forget my separate pouch that I keep my coupons in. Looks like I need to add another tab to my wallet :)
myself and my fiancé are trying to budget so we can apply for a mortgage I can't wait to show him this amazing video/idea thank you so much :)
Katie Donohoe thank you for watching & good Luck to you both!! :)
Wow!! Love this, quite some time ago I used the Dave Ramsey Envelope system, but moved away from it. Use my Debit card, and keep it updated weekly. But this has encouraged me, I think maybe I would spend less if it I tried it again!! How has it been working for you?
Basics with Patricia HI there! I did an update awhile back. It has been working well. Some weeks I get off track a bit which I think can be normal. But overall it seems to helpout with my spending for groceries & gas. I like that it's simple and easy to create and use. Maybe you could give it a trial run? I've seen some people just use index cards for their trial run before making the laminated tabs. Either way, thanks for taking the time to watch!
Great, thanks!! I might give it a try :-)
Thank you for making this video, I've been wanting to try this and you've just inspired me to actually do it!
You're welcome! I'm so glad I inspired you to give it a try. I have been hearing about it for awhile now and someone on YT inspired me to give it a shot! Thanks for watching allthatjaz808 :)
So if there is leftover money what do you do with it? Add to it or put the extra money a bill?
***** I roll it over to the next week :)
Weird question but do you withdrawal money from your bank bi-weekly for these categories? Like if you know you need a total of 300$ for all categories, do you go and withdrawal it than fill your wallet? Most of my checks are direct deposited so i don't usually have cash on hand
+Gianna Cammarota I actually stopped using the cash system. I tried it for a year and it didn't do anything for me. However I do know a few people who swear by it. When I did do it I would have to go to the atm each week and take cash out for each category. Hope that helps!
Love it! Great idea, thanks!
You're so welcome Y Port :)
I've seen this video so many times... I loveeeeee it everyday i get excited
Awe I am so glad you enjoy it! Thanks!!
+GradysMom ...
Great video.. thanks for posting! :) I usually use my debit card for basically everything, but I think it'd be a good idea to start carrying/using cash so I can virtually see where and how my money's being spent.
Being a single, working Mom, I'm pretty good at keeping my finances & spending in check, and this is a great idea. Btw, LOVE your wallet! :) I'll hafta try your system w/my LV zippy wallet. 🙌✌
+Generation X I actually am going to just use my debit card from now on. The cash envelope system was great for me for the first few months, but it became a chore for me to go to the bank every week and get the cash, then track spending each week etc. In the long run it didn't end up benefitting me enough to continue to use it. However I know lots of people that is does work for. I think it really depends on each person's spending habits. Thanks so much for watching!
+GradysMom
Thank You for replying! Well, I haven't given it a whirl yet, though I may think about trying it. Until then, I'll continue to use my debit card as well😉✌
Thanks for making this video. I really enjoyed it. Like you, I make my purchases by debit. I also use a credit card to earn cash back then pay it off monthly, or whenever, through online banking. What is the name of your nail polish? I really like it. I also have short nails like that, which I find far more practical. :)
Hi and thank you. I don't remember the name of it, I am so sorry!!!
GradysMom That's okay! Thanks for trying to remember. If you do think of the brand, or salon - (if you went to one), or anything, please let me know. Many thanks. :)
Enjoyed your video. Thank you!
+Pamela Chappell thanks so much! I will be doing an updated video on my cash envelope next month :)
after checking on the price of the wallet....I said to myself...boy, are you serious???!!!!
Lynn M that's why I bought mine used on eBay!
GradysMom haha that’s exactly what I just did, went and looked on eBay. $50
super doper!
Lynn M its super Dooper not super doper
you are clearly not a jacksepticeye fan
What about money for taking him out to the mall or zoo or whatever ? ... That's a major for me
And What about his clothes that goes under his name ? You didn't mention his other spendings , other than his school lunches ,,,
Thanks for the brilliant idea, needed it
Hi ***** money for taking my son places would be categorized under Grady. As for his clothing, shoes etc I don't really have a monthly/weekly "budget" for that. I buy his clothes seasonally. The reason for the cash envelope system for me personally is for the things that I buy on a weekly (regular) basis. I want to make sure I don't overspend or go over budget for groceries & gas. Thanks for watching and I hope it inspired you to give it a try :)
My name is Amanda
