Brooo! It’s actually a new composition, all based on the Aquinas text. Yes, I removed all Christian refs because they don’t fit into the storyline of Arknights. So, all melody and harmonies are new. Anything else you’ve sung was not this, this is 100% new. I also added new lyrics etc. Loosely set/based - not taken from older versions ;)
Yee, there were DEFINITELY differences. The similarities i heard in the melody were probably just coincidences, and since i only vaguely remember the lyrics i sang (which i believe was largely a 1:1of the prayer minus some phrase adjustments because music), honestly anything could've been different or dead on and it'd probably still sound only vaguely familiar haha. Learned a lot of songs in those days
7:00 To put a little more context from the game's lore: the titular character of this song, codename Shining, is from the race of demon-like beings called Sarkaz. She is from a very rare and special sub-race/"family" of Sarkaz, called Confessarii, who served the Sarkaz royalty as head priests... well, sort of, they are more like royal magicians, since Sarkaz don't have a god or any deity to follow, they have their innate "witchcraft" instead. Very closely related to death in many ways, but it's really hard to explain without retelling A LOT of the heaviest lore) And this "family" wields a horrific, forbidden form of said Sarkaz "witchcraft", which is, in essence, direct soul manipulation. Shining in particular, being one of the greatest swordsmans in history, is believed to be able to directly cut someone's soul with her sword. This power comes with the great curse (an utterly horrid case of "reincarnation"... again, sort of...) she is trying to escape - that's one of the reasons she left the "family", sheathed her sword (which she uses as a staff now), vowed to never use it again in battle, and became a wandering medic, saving people with her powers instead. She gathered a group of friends called Followers, one of those is Margaret Nearl, a famous knight currently working for us, the other is Nightingale - you've reacted to her EP, Spring's Pulse, before, one of the most beautiful pieces from Arknights OST. Together, they are one of our core teams of medics in the game's lore (and gameplay too). Shining's overall theme can be described as... "redemption" or "liberation", I guess, so Pange Lingua fits her perfectly, as someone who leads the way away from eternal suffering.

Yes, they did replace some words, but it still kind of plays into slightly "religious" themes since the special kind of Sarkaz people that are represented with this song and the main heroine of this theme (codename: Shining) are practicing very ancient, dangerous and taboo kind of Sarkaz "witchcraft". Think of them as evil priests or witchers haha
Listing a few Arknights songs you haven't reacted to yet: EDIT: Straight to the top of my list is the CC#2 Battleplan Underdawn Lobby theme. I've got DROWNING IN MY HELLFIRE stuck in my head in the best way possible. Also the Underdawn Battle themes, there are two of them. I prefer the first one but they're both amazing. I really like this song, if I recall correctly, it's a character named Shining leading survivors of a war(?) through a blizzard to safety. And may also have something to do with the redemption of the Sarkaz (A race of people with features of demons or creatures of the night in our world) and their homeland. There are definitely some shifts going on, but mostly to bring things to a more personal level. The character was part of a suspicious and definitely evil group (that also happens to be her family) that uses several religious references, so much of what´s left of the religious message can be related to that. Also, she´s on a nonviolent, redemption path of sorts now. About Arknights suggestions, now would be a good time to start exploring the soundtrack of IS4, Expeditioner's Joklumarkar. It came out on global recently too, so it´s a good moment to begin.
Oooh, I was wondering if you would ever get to this one. Definitely a sleeper, always get chills at the cluster chords near the end. As for Arknights related requests, I'll back the IS4 (Jǫklumarkar) battle theme requests, the setting is Sami, the same region and event that the character featured in Mortal Eye that you reacted to before is from. It'd be nice to get back to some actual in-game Arknights music from time to time, they're pretty short and definitely made to loop (~2min each) so maybe you can knock them out in a group like you do for Blue Archive, though they don't really connect to each other like BA themes do as much.
Now you could look up some evnts that seem interesting to yo and listen to some of the ingame ost ie, boss battle themes, if you esnt to. But for another ep reaction recomondation would be gearing up.
