me and my childhood best friend driffted as we got older, we always kept in touch, and she invited me to her wedding. i wasn't offended at all that i wasn't a bridesmaid or anything, i was happy that she considered me still a friend that she'd want at her wedding. i've since been to her baby shower, and birthday parties. her wedding actually bought us close again

Lucky, I'm pretending I'm not upset that I didn't get invited to my longest best friend's wedding this year. Probably because I still mask like a silly little child even though it's become as normal as wearing my hearing-aid out of the house has been for my entire life. -_-
She's said to me that she wouldn't be where she is now without me so sorry that I felt I was some sort of rock in her life for the past 20 years.
Part of me wants to treat her the same way if I ever get to experience that miracle because it only seems fair, but part of me wants to go "oh well, I wouldn't be here without you either, celebrate this miracle with me!".
Should I talk to her mother or something? I don't want to break us up platonically, I've had enough of losing friends over my silly feelings.

Story time: My wedding was kinda a drag. I had karaoke and dance music and a beautiful reception area, but it was just ... Dead. I planned to throw my bouquet off a large balcony overlooking a pool area with a forest scene as the backdrop. If I threw it off to the side (as intended) it would easily clear the pool into the reception area. However, my cousin and maid of honor, asked that I throw it towards the center of the pool for her to leap and catch it mid-air and cannonball into the pool and it went PERFECTLY. People still didn't dance, but it definitely livened things up 😂

I have worn a sundress that was white with a very colorful flower print dominating. It could never have been mistaken for a wedding dress. I certainly wasn't trying to upstage the bride. It was not revealing. It was all I had on hand for an unexpected event. If someone looks like a bride, I can understand the revulsion. If they look like they are attending a summer luncheon. give them some slack.

My BFF from my childhood and I had made a pact that we would each be the other one's MOH. After high school, we both moved to different towns and lost contact for a little while. I ended up eloping, so I felt bad. When we got in contact again, she wasn't upset at all, just was happy that I was happy. Several years passed, my mom called, said I had gotten a wedding invite from her at mother's house. So I called, very excited. It didn't even matter that I wasn't in the wedding party, and I drove halfway across the country so I could be there.
Helped her get dressed on the day of, and the wedding was beautiful.

I met my best friend when I was 4 yrs old. We always promised that we'd be each other's chief bridesmaids, but when it came to her wedding (she married first) there were so many young girls in her family wanting to be bridesmaids - and her parents were organising/paying for the wedding, so the bride had little say in the matter - I wasn't asked to be a bridesmaid at all, but I was of course invited to the wedding. I dressed well, went along to the wedding, had a wonderful day, was joyful to see my friend's happiness, and bore no ill-will about not being in the wedding party. When it came to my own wedding, my situation was different and I was able to ask her to be my MOH. Both of us have since remarried, and were witnesses for each other's marriages. We've been best friends for 58 years, and I think this illustrates that there's more to a friendship than wearing a bridesmaid's dress - or not!

A little gem regarding the queen wearing white to Camila and Charles’s wedding: Camilla wore white to Diana and Charles’s wedding, so the queen made a point of wearing white to their wedding. Since she was the queen, it meant no one else could wear the same color as her to an event. She tagged along for only a little bit of the ceremony, but long enough to justify Camilla not wearing green.

When I was still working as a chef, we had a kitchen (fully loaded) inside a small trailer that we would bring to the location. With it we could cook for up to 200 people. We also had coolers in another trailer for produce and such. We got hired to do a wedding of around 140-150 people on an estate property that had to be in the millions. I remember this because I was in charge of the steaks. I had a list of how many and how to cook each one. There was 5 cooks including me and everyone had their jobs with lists of food to prepare and any changes or allergies. After sending the last plate out one of the caterers came back asking for the last 5 plates. we told them we counted everything before leaving and marked them off as they were done. I showed him the paper work to prove it. He left and went back inside. Since we were done we started to clean and pack up. The caterer came out for a smoke and told us that the family of 5 who own the property invited themselves and were the ones who got the 5 meals meant for the guests. The family just left after the meal like they did nothing wrong. So 5 of the guests didn't get the food we made so the wedding party had to send someone to another restaurant close to pick up meals for them.

Most of them are probably happy to have them in the photos and at the event. I would have been. That is the sweetest party crasher story I've ever heard. That last one. My sister in law was so rude at our wedding. She did not congratulate, thank or even SPEAK to us at our wedding. But the worst part was that during photos she kept positioning herself in our sightline with her arms crossed and glaring at us. It was very distracting. We had a small, lovely wedding at a winery that we had planned ourselves. It was idyllic. I guess she was jealous and being petty. Well, petty comes back around like karma. My brother in law dumped her 2 years later for not refilling the ice trays after their ice maker broke. Obviously, it was a straw/camel/back thing but I still laugh about it.

Wait a minute, please. I need to process this, she was your SISTER-IN-LAW, and you BROTHER-IN-LAW wound up dumping her? If she was your sister-in-0law, that would mean that she was married to you brother, and your brother-in-law would be married to a sister (unless they had a different sexual orientation, which might not have been). Either way, I guess it's not that important, and while she didn't seem to be the most pleasant person (I know somewhat about adversarial SILs, thank you) it doesn't seem to be a reason to dump someone over not refilling an ice tray, unless there were other (maybe minor) things that had been done, too.
That's one thing about karma. It will sometime allow small things to accumulate until it becomes a huge, messy thing that karma can explode into your face.

I've heard this story before, but you know what makes me feel it's iffy?
We're talking about Queen Elizabeth II here. Not just any mother in law. And the 'wedding of the century' basically (well, in Europe at least). With an exact and strictly observed protocol, that probably took dozens of very experienced people to plan and hundreds to execute. And huge, worldwide media coverage.
I find it hard to believe, that especially back then, when the rules were stricter still then today, the various outfits of the members of the royal family and of high ranking (and therefore very visible) guests would not have been subjected to an approval process before the day. I don't think, you can just turn up to an event like that in an unsuitable outfit and not face consequences.
I don't think, Camilla would have worn that dress against the wish of the Queen (may she rest in peace), or that she would have been allowed to just stay as she was, if her dress had been decidedly against protocol.

First story absolutely shows the difference between my wedding and others - I had my wedding at a beautiful 500 year old hotel castle in Scotland and met so many lovely hotel guests in the toilets that I ended up inviting them all in - we gave them free drinks and a hot meal buffet and danced the night away with them - we made friends for life - it’s always rubbish when you’re a hotel guest and there’s a big wedding on cos it makes you feel like you’re interloping if the venue is too close to the bar and ours was, so I wanted everyone to have a great time and join us. As Scots, we pride ourselves on having the most fun weddings, and the people we made friends with that night were thrilled to be invited to a Scottish wedding. Some were from England and some were from the US….and one was a travelling musician who ended up playing the harp for our ceremony…but we showed them all a great time!

My mum told me a story of when she was little, she saw in town that someone was getting married so she went and had a look. She asked one of the guests who was getting married and the woman looked at her like she was crazy and said, "Your DAD is getting married?" Mum went in, saw that yes, her dad was getting married and ran and went home to go tell grandma. You better believe grandma crashed grandpa's second wedding and raised hell. I was told there was hair pulling on every side. Not sure what happened to that woman, but she wasn't the only one grandpa was getting it on with, even though he was legally married to my grandmother. He had the audacity to try and hold a full wedding whilst married to my grandmother, who had no idea. DNA test done by my twin sister revealed grandpa had a LOT more children than we thought he did. Mum thought she was his only child. Ha. Ha. She wasn't. We get more updates every now and then. Fun times.

But the daughter doing all the hollering just made her look crazy because she knew the truth. The actual wife posted videos on IG & FB of the "bride" & her daughter coming to try and fight her a month before the wedding, so they knew he had a wife he lived with. Honestly though 🤷🏽‍♀️ WHY??
I can't believe the audacity of some people. He knew he couldn't be married to 2 women at the same time and the new bride knew that they were denied a marriage certificate because he was married.

The last story. I'm a wheelchair user, this year I organised a massive haloween party for my church group, many of whom I've known since I was a kid. At the activity, 2 people spent any time with me and most treated me like I was invisible, I'd organised the whole thing single handedly but no one came up to me and said thank you, they just enjoyed my hard work and ignored me. I was dressed as a flipping fairy, I wasn't easy to ignore. But this happens a lot. I'm an ambulatory wheelchair user, so sometimes I need my chair and sometimes I don't, on the days I'm using crutches or a cane, these same people are a little more aware of my existence, when I use my chair, it's targeted avaoidence and it just disgusts me.

      @paulagoeringer9466 7 месяцев назад +2

I've noticed that too about people who are in wheelchairs. What is it about them that makes them practically invisible? I don't get it. It's literally just a chair with wheels. How does sitting in it make you somehow not a person? It's weird. I have to use a walker sometimes and people really are weird about it.

I've been offended once at a friend's wedding. We were childhood besties. Neighbors who spent a lot of time together. always talked about being in each others' weddings. Well, I knew we drifted after college. so I wasn't offended when I wasn't in her wedding, nor was I offended when I wasn't invited to the ceremony itself since it was a small close family only thing followed by a large reception. However she did make it quite clear that I was no more of an afterthought on the guest list when she had me sitting at the vendor's table instead of with any of our mutual friends. She also proceeded to ignore me after the wedding when I reached out to maybe hang out and catch up once life settled back down for her. I feel like I would have been less offended if I didn't get invited at all before letting the friendship fade out. She clearly no longer wanted to keep our friendship. To this day I haven't spoken to her at all unless you count when she published a book and sent me a message asking me to buy it. I never responded to that. Fast forward to my wedding, to a guy she had introduced me to. My mom was shocked that this former friend wasn't on our guest list. Mom's still friends with her parents and thinks that old friendships like that don't fade away but by this point neither husband or I have spoken a word to former friend in over 5 years at that point. Why would we invite her to our wedding?

Want to share the BEST wedding - My friends threw a picnic on Sydney Harbour and just provided picnic blankets and baskets. It was so simple, no seating plan - no hassles. We played cricket, listened to music. She looked GORGEOUS in a really simple white boho dress and flip flops with a fresh white flower crown and over the bands of the shoes. The groom wore white linen. In the picnic baskets was a feast! Lobster, champagne, cheeses, little cakes.. no gifts required. Afterwards, we caught the ferry to a local posh hotel on the water and people had cocktails if they wanted and then they went to thier room for the night. Cost them $10 grand tops. Still the most chilled, stylish, REAL wedding I have been to. In contrast, the worst DIY wedding I ever went to, the bride and groom had platters of food and champagne while they got ready [so they were fine] and all the focus was on the bride getting her hair and makeup done. I was there all day doing the flowers and table decorations, but got offered no food or even water. Wedding guests assembled at about 3pm in a garden and the pizza guy hired for food to the guests didn't begin serving until 9pm. We were STARVING... and getting cold outdoors. People started to leave - I got pneumonia.

Story time - I had totally forgotten about this but all these wedding dramas brought it back -
Back in the day, mid 90s - my best friend has 2 older sisters. Her oldest sister actually became part of our active friend group so she and I were also very close. That summer, we all started hanging with the guys in the local band that played at the main hangout - oldest sister ends up engaged to one of the band members. Mind you I grew up at their house all the time so very close with their mom and their dad, who later left their mom for the women he had been cheating with (little attempt to hide) for YEARS- their dad marries mistress and live in a gorg house with large property pool - all the things.
Sidebar- whilest being mistress to my bffs dad, since he was married and all, mistress also ends up publicly dating people. One person she dated was my then boyfriends bff - (she was older than my parents) so fair to say we spent time together the 4 of us. I grew up with him too (boyfriend’s bff). Boyfriend was a jacka$$ to me and most his friends clearly didn’t like it but didn’t stand up to him or protect me when it was happening - but I had broken up with him by the time my bff and I and sister were band groupies.
Back to wedding - sister had wedding at dad’s house by the pool. It was a whole things we spent the summer planning - handing by the pool at dad/wife mistresses house just living life.
We get to their house wedding day and bff and I go straight in to find sister who was in their dads/(mistress turned wife)’s bedroom. I was closing the door behind me as we entered bedroom when crazy (we called her crazy) literally grabbed my arm thru tiny hole in the crack of closing door and snatched me and began yelling at me to leave her house -- 😶 - stunned and HELLA confused I snatched arm back while she is repeating while speaking to soon to be bride and my bff that I need to leave her house and that they were told that she would act a fool if I showed up - and I mean she is truly living the crazy name at this point. Bff and bride’s mom is there and trying to intervene and telling crazy to get her hands off of me but she’s crazy so - that wasn’t happening - my friends are profusely apologizing while I’m just spinning around like WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL IS HAPPENING ….
Long story short…. I left because it was one of my closest friend’s wedding and I didn’t want it ruined (and I’m 4’10” and whilst my tiny self can work up some chihuahua size rage in a hurry - it was no match to crazy!) I walked out alone, took my bff’s car cause we came in hers and drove back home so in shock …. I later learn she hated me and my bffs saw her a time or two when we were all there eating dinner with the 🔪 to my back when I wasn’t looking and had told everyone I was not allowed and they never told me any of this thinking she wouldn’t go thru with it. I also learned she hated me because the friend she dated that I grew up with and was my then boyfriends bff was apparently secretly in love with me and said my name in his sleep when she was there with him.
    😶🥴😮.
None of these people are together now. Me included. 🤷🏻‍♀️🙊🙈🙉

Maybe I'm weird, but I don't think I've ever had bad wedding food. The food at my reception back in 2001 was $6.50 a plate. (Sure, it was buffet, whereas Mrs. $350-per-plate probably had table service, but unlike her, I was on a realistic, normal-person budget.) It was absolutely delicious! 😋 I also had leftovers for a week.

From a wedding photographer: choose your guest list extremely carefully and EXTRA CAREFUL about your bridesmaids. Those "questionable" people can and WILL ruin your day.

The girl that did my hair was my husband's "best friend" who was married with a kid of her own, and known me the entire relationship. Her "gift" to me was to do my hair for the day. She got offended that I didn't give her a gift like I did my bridemaid's. She left right after doing my hair to drive 45 min (one way) to pick up her husband and son for the ceremony (he was supposed to bring the son) I went outside to do some Bridal portraits, it was windy, my hair got mussed.. Not only was she not there to touch it up, but she and her family never made the ceremony, she said they were both asleep when she got home. 1 1/2 years later as she was getting divorced she had the audacity to ask my husband if I weren't in the picture would they be together. (I know this because he told me). Needless to say I had the foresight to not put any pics with her into my wedding album. She only ever cared about herself, that day was an eye opener, but the death of my husband last year sealed it, as much as I miss my husband the one thing I'm happy to have out of my life is her.

From what I understand, if the time, location, etc., of a funeral are in the obituary or otherwise published, anyone can come who wants to come. (Though not necessarily to any gathering afterward unless someone sees them and invites them.) It's only if no details are published, especially if it specifically says "services will be private" that you shouldn't attend a funeral uninvited even IF you somehow manage to learn where and when it is.

The queen deliberately wore white to Charles and Camilla's wedding as Camilla wore white to Charles and Dianna's wedding! 🤣

Camilla did not wear white to Charles and Diana's wedding. She wore a light gray dress. The Queen gave her blessing to Charles and Camilla's wedding , although technically they didn't have a wedding, they had a civil ceremony because they both were married before. The Queen attended the blessing only after the civil ceremony and it was not white is was a cream color.

I want to ask if her sweater is vintage, because I have two sweaters from the 1950s that look very much like this! I also have a Vogue magazine from 1955 that has an ad for this type sweater, and it was _expensive!_ About $100. Mine are fine cashmere with rhinestone buttons and a mink collar. BTW, $100 in 1955 has the same purchasing power as $1,122.54 today.

It usually happens in Asia, because wedding is an event for everyone. Everyone is invited, no need for invitations.
It was just this modern times when weddings are held inside buildings with security that people started screening guests. Plus food is expensive now.
