- In this video I give my Pros and Cons of the panoramic sunroof/moonroof! Overall I think the panoramic roof is a great if you have a warranty, or if you don’t do anything to break it like mine!
Pros:
Great look, let’s in natural light, air flow, feels more “open”

I have to have a sunroof in my cars. Once you have one, it's very hard to go back to a car without.
I almost purchased an F-150 without the sunroof but so glad I didn’t. To me, it’s a must despite the potential problems.
Once you have a car with a sunroof you’ll never buy another car without a sunroof lol
@@aronnikes5660 I thought that too, the last 11 cars I bought had sunroofs, dual sunroofs or panoramic. However, I opted to not get it on my 2020 F150, because I did not want to deal with the issues. Out of the 11 cars 2 did give me issues. I love how they brighten the cabin, but I don't want to deal with the issues.

Yeah. And since we’re in the age of showing off, people are drawn to it no matter how impractical. Majority of people are broke, drowning in debts just to show off. So i’m not surprised it’s a trend to stay for good
Last year I ordered a 2020 F150 and initially I was going to order a sunroof. However after watching several RUclips videos where people also encountered problems with their sunroofs, I decided not to order a sunroof. I also notice that the aftermarket offers the brackets for the sunroof which sent a red flag to me. After watching your video you have confirmed that I made the right choice!
So you have aftermarket exhaust. Let’s stay away from buying cars altogether...
I love my Panoramic roof its worth the money!
Same here it beats the regular moonroof and sunroof
I love it. I have remote start from my phone so i can start my car before i get into it so that it cools down before i get into it or in the winter i can start my car so i can have the ac or heater on and the car comes to temp.
Mine is in the same condition as yours. Lots of videos on how to repair yourself with repair kits available. I’ll have to repair this at some point.
I have it on my Audi SQ5 and I also had it on my previous car (Ford Escape SEL), it looks great but on my Audi the sunshade broke because of the florida heat and Audi charges $2,000 just to replace that very thin shade, that is like a very cheap curtain. So I didn't replace it, but need to find alternatives or i would bake in the summer, big time, without a shade. The sunshade was way better on my (twice cheaper) Ford Escape, the shade was rigid and way less fragile, never broke. Moonroof is nice for the rear passengers, the driver doesn't really enjoy it as you're looking in front of you (hopefully) when driving.
Go have it tinted with 5% window tint and you'll love it again

@@HP_line_cook now I get to teach you something. A sunroof is what cars had before a moonroof. Sunroof is metal and you cannot see through it. Moonroof is called that cause at night with it being made of glass you could see the moon.
I have a question. Do u mean if this moonroof doesn't close fully like its broken, then whole thing has to be replaced?

My 2011 Jaguar's panoramic sunroof o my XJL started opening on its own while driving. I been looking for info to see what could be causing this. Do you know what the problem is?
I got a Honda accord 04 with moonroof 233k still working just fine. No leaks or any other problems. Looking for a new car with the panoramic but came across people having problems with it or maybe it's just a Ford problem.
The other query is that with undeniably material changes in global temperatures, would a shade mechanical or manual be effective enough so that there was no recognizable difference between a standard roof and a moonroof in the cabin temperature? On very sunny days, if one placed a hand near or against the shade, you could feel the radiation heat
Sunroofs were the original alternatives to full convertibles, and the key difference is that a sunroof was a *non-glass*(cloth, vinyl, or matching roof sheetmetal) section that tilted and/or slid open for air and daylight. Moonroofs are glass, and nearly all have a separate shade when no daylight is desired(or one just wants as 'normal' looking a car overhead as possible). ;)

Sir, do you think if a car has the sunroof would makes the car looked more luxury & will you get more money for it when you selling the the car?
You can fix your sunroof yourself for $160. Buy the rails from the dealer, take off the sunroof via 6 bolts, remove both rails via 3 screws on each side. Problem solved. 1 hour of work. Note that you have to re program the sunroof once installed which is simple and can find on RUclips.

A good deciding factor is how the insulation quality is? We either live in hot weather or cold. So having either and knowing how to choose will be right. Any temperature comparisons using the coldest AC setting? Which last longer? How does 120° weather handles ? It’s alot to spend on that roof which we drivers don’t enjoy while driving just our kids.
Sunroof is definitely worth it as it makes the car brighter.
Sounds like you could really benefit from a ceramic window tint on the roof that blocks out the UV. Don't know how much benefit but perhaps worth looking into.

A good ceramic would definitely help. Ceramic tints reflect uv rays away from the vehicle instead of being absorbed into the glass. When UV rays are absorbed by the windows it turns into heat. With the tint its reflected away lowering the amount of UV being absorbed which in turn reduced the amount of heat produced.
You can’t add wrap or tint to the resin panoramic roof-
You didn't really say if you recommended it. I'm guessing you don't, based upon your con list, but I think you should answer the question you posed in the title.
Third party sunroof repair places will fix that bracket pretty cheap. Worth looking into
Hi thanks for the video, I wish I’ve know before. I took mine to the dealership the first time it happened and they said they lubricated and fixed it. The next thing I know it broke. Wouldn’t open all the way then wouldn’t close. The dealership told me $5,300.00 ok still looking around.
Trust me,… owner of 2016 F150, with 40,000 miles, garage kept. One total moonroof replacement (2 years old) requiring total interior removal and doors. Truck was butchered by uncaring dealership mechanics. And one guide rail replacement (not under warranty $700). Their sunroofs will give you problems,save the $1,500 option and expensive trips to the dealership if you’re keeping your truck.

I would tint that so it reflects the heat. Top grade ceramic 70% still lets light in but it'll reflect most of that heat 🔥
My roof came with a slider cover so I could shut out the light if I don’t want it.
Here in Australia you would cook under a panoramic roof..smaller is ok....mine has a slight tint with a ceramic 3m film to reduce the heat
I really like my panoramic sun roof on my 17 Lariat, but it rattles like crazy when I don't maintain the rubber seals 🤦
Depends on what car, some cars it is pointless , however some cars like an family luxury suv it will be pointless without the sunroof.
Also the sun roof is actually for winter days, nothing better than having everyone soaked in the sun under the pano roof while on the winter family trip👍🏻
I have one on my 16 f150 absolutely loved it when the truck was brand new, as the years have gone by now 2021 it leaks and the headliner now has the moldy smell , my advice stay away, it does let in a ton of light and looks sweet but it will leave you with a 2 plus grand bill
should be covered by the warranty, the sunroof on my '11 went out, I think twice, they fixed it. IMO it is never good unscrewing that many screws off a brand new car.
Its funny seeing all the comments about sun vs. Moon roofs. And i guess i can add another. Always thought that the difference was a su. Roof just vents and a moon roof retracts as well.

A sunroof is glass. You can see through it. A moon roof is not. It's just a movable body panel. Older Volvo's and merc's had em a lot. At least that's what I was told at one time. I could be wrong... Also. They typically can't just pull it out and replace the bracket because it's all one piece. Once it's put together. It can't really be taken apart. The brackets are built around the glass. It just makes installation easier in the factory. It accounts for minor discrepancies between vehicles. Wile keeping the whole thing aligned. If it gets out of alignment. That's when you get leaks.
I have the pano in my 2016 F150 platinum. IMO it's worth having if you can afford it.

Another con of sunroof: Less headroom (usually 1-inch) as compared to trims which don't have sunroofs.
Some cars may fix it increasing the height of the car, so check the specs of the car you're purchasing.
I also want to know more about the strength of the glass, specially during a hail storm because the glass is the main protection from any objects hitting the roof. How strong is it? The metal roof will be damaged during a hail storm, but at least it will not break that easily.
First hand experience mine shattered in a hail storm, but it was golf ball sized hail.

Two grand is a lot of money however I heard Toyota Camry XSE panoramic roof cost about 12k to replace if you don’t have warranty

I'm still on the fence if I should get the Camry XSE with the panoramic moonroof. There's a lot of issues with them already.
If you get a warranty that covers the roof I say go for it!

depends really on my F90 M5 it has the carbon fiber roof in order to make the centre of gravity lower thus improving cornering

Somebody probably answered but a moonroof is a stationary piece of glass installed atop the vehicle and not all moonroofs will have the sliding shade. A sunroof which you have there is will open
for your shade you should have remote start
Getting a good ceramic tint should help if you leave it open

Hello, I'm about to buy an Audi with a glass roof - what about safety with the glass roof? in an accident? Do the parts hold together in the event of a crack or does the pane fall into pieces? Here I would be most afraid that an object could get through the window from above (in an accident) and fall on my head as a passenger. What is it like driving at high speed, can you hear a whistle? And is it warmer in summer than in winter? The roof is only made of glass and - if I've seen it correctly - only has a thin sun visor underneath. I would only take the roof so that it is lighter in the interior, as my equipment is completely black, but I have concerns, mainly because of the technical defects.

Lol don’t crash then. There is usually a rule at driving no more than say 70mph. You can go faster - I have but. I got mine for sale reason you have. Lighten up the cabin. I also wondered in the even if a crash how’s it effected. But it hasn’t put me off.
Does it have that Feature where It Covers the glass with like a cloth so that You want it be dark or something? Or does it stay as Glass only
It has a cloth that goes all the way across so it can be dark!

Overall if installing you shouldn't cheap out, it should be done oem and at dealership and it should have warranty.

Thats even more reason. Rain with pan roof can be very nice. Depends if ur a teen with a gf or a single working man. Obviously if i was old and didnt care about life, i don't get the pan roof.

Mines won’t open all the way back. Do you have an idea why that may be? It only opens half way. But the other piece below it goes all the way back.
Hey Darcelle, if your glass panels don't go all the way back something could be broken on the rail system or it just isn't lubed up enough! I can't diagnose the full problem for you, but hopefully this gave you a little insight! I am no where near a professional!

@@triniD25 In my truck, and I think other Fords, only the first panel will go all the way back. The rear panel on top of the backseats can't because it doesn't have any place to move to!
Biggest con for my pano sunroof in my car is that if I forget to close the shade, it turns into a damn greenhouse during the summer here in Central California!

Moonroof open tends to get fairly loud whn driving
The lighting can actually make me feel better about my day with how great I makes the car look and it also creates such great airflow. It’s definitely worth the money

The cons are lack of insulation for cold and hot weather months, potential for water ingress if the seals fail and they are a maintenance nightmare when components need to be replaced! If debris from the road strikes it- it's a nightmare to replace! Never keep a car with a panoramic roof beyond the warranty period!

If you already have a pano roof my best guess would be to take it to your local dealership. If you’re going to make your own pano I have no idea where to start!

Exactly! I watched a video with a Raptor. He recommends this product on Amazon "Krytox GPL205 Performance Lubricant Grease". I bought for my F150 and I lube the rubber seal one a month. Also open it at least once a week. To keep the seal from sticking.

Honestly I have no idea, I was driving with it retracted one time and next thing I knew it didn’t want to go forward!

@@BrandenLopez was you driving quite quickly with it open. They usually advise not to. My last car had a pan roof but only halfway. I opened that thing and drove faster than probably advised to. But the car before that had slight issues closing after driving that fast too. In the end I solved that with grease spray on the tracks.

@@macp349 they advise not to go past a certain speed with it open. I assume they mean fully open. About 60 or 7ph. I can’t remember. But I had exceeded it a few times. I had small issues closing sometime after. But greasing again solved that

Looking at Santa Fe's, and higher trims come with a panoramic sun roof... and I don't think I want the sunroof. Mainly because when we pack up the family to go camping we use a roof bag for extra storage... and because it's a soft bag, not a rigid box, it sits down on the roof itself, rather than riding up on the roof racks.
On our current old beater of a car I dont mind it... but I really don't think it'd be smart to load a roof bag up onto a glass roof...?

Always, always, ALWAYS a full pano roof is worth it.
it's not worth it, especially if it opens: if water freezes it will infiltrate, if the water tubes get clogged it will flood the car, if it breaks it is expensive, less heat insolation. If you have a garage and warranty you could consider it, else it's a pain to maintain
I heard that you cant have crossbars or top storage on a vehicle with a two-panel moonroof or panoramic moon roof. If thats true then that's a huge con.
They give you five year bumper-to-bumper hundred thousand mile warranty when you get one of these trucks
Mine came with 3 year bumper to bumper and 5 year power train!

That’s just one turbo, I’m sure if you had to replace both it wouldn’t be a pretty picture either!
Only worth it if it comes as standard with the car, otherwise, don't bother. Most Mercedes these days offer the panoramic sunroof as an $1,000+ optional extra, frankly, I'd stick with the conventional sunroof since it's already standard. At least it is standard in the C-class and higher up models.
Hell yeah and that's one of the reasons why I love my c class because of that panoramic sunroof

If it's in a Lexus, you don't have to worry about it breaking because Lexus/Toyota vehicles are built like tanks and are built to last! Never once has a problem with mine!
Still, pano roofs aren’t necessary and interfere with vehicles’ chassis rigidity
I have been looking at the RX for the past year. I just found a great deal on a 2021 with right color int and ext, and luxury package (❤ the rims and lights)! But I’m afraid of the panoramic roof because I keep my vehicles for a long time. We’re a Lexus family because of the reliability and low maintenance. I’d hate for that panoramic roof to change our history with Lexus. 🤔🥺

My kid opened it in winter and it couldnt close anyways on VW Tiguan 2015, frame got twisted and motor got dammaged. VW replace the frame and motor.. 2800$ CAD + 6 hours labour + Taxes... :S

What??? My volvo has a double protection and also you can close a blind if there is a strong sun 🌞.. fix the brakes are easy, you should take in consideration to check the price abroad. Good luck.
What I realized that all vehicles that has panoramic sunroof they comes in one piece so if anything brake the entire thing has to taken out, that’s how they are manufactured and assembled

Good question! They should cause any additional wind noise unless the panoramic roof is either open, or it isn’t sealed correctly!
