Oh, I’m so glad you found this video as well as my Warmup video helpful, Alison! Hope your shoulder is feeling strong these days! I’ll add a stretching routine video to my to-film list then!
Hi Clara, yes, it’s already enough to coach students how to play the instrument and master it, isn’t it? But I do vividly remember my dear teacher, the legendary Lorand Fenyves (1918-2004) showing me how to sit in orchestra. It was in Banff and I was no more than 12 a young tween at the time: “Sit on the corner of your chair 🪑, legs at ‘10’ and ‘2’” That is how I endeavour to sit when I’m given a flat-surfaced chair with a square-cornered edge but it’s not always possible.
@@violynnkuo thanks. I’ve gotten the name of an orthopedic surgeon who may be able to help…I’ve had whiplash three times. I prefer to practice sitting down but my new teacher wants me to stand. I wanna be comfortable both ways.
Oh my goodness! Whiplash three times 😳. Take good care, Nickie! I hope you get relief and solutions and can continue to play without discomfort. 🤗 And you just made my day! Your teacher is so sweet to say that! Thank you for the kind words! That’s the best holiday gift 💝 this season! 🙏
Hi Alexandra, thanks and I’m glad you liked my video! I studied with many different teachers (predominantly Lorand Fenyves, Mayumi Seiler, Erika Raum, Burton Kaplan, Nathan Cole, Nancy Dahn) and also have studied Pilates, Yoga, Alexander Technique, and Body Mapping.

Wonderful advice Lynn! Too many of us play with pain for decades and think it's normal. ❤
Hey Caroline! So true but hopefully that’s starting to changes with more awareness of performance-related injuries!
Excellent video, great advice! I would love to see your stretching video! I do most of your pre-practice warmup stretches, that's a great video, too!

Wonderful advice! You are right-too many teachers don't discuss how to sit for hours in orchestra. Thank You!!

Really great advice, thank you for sharing , Lynn!
I’m happy to hear that, Ricardo! I’ve struggled with playing-related injury over the decades so I hope it helps!
Practiced almost 3 hours today, watching this class with so much back pain.
Oh no, sorry to hear! I hope you get the advice you need and hope you found some helpful information in this video!
I have problems standing to practice. I get pain right between my shoulders!
Oh no, Nickie! Sorry to hear that. 😔
I hope you’re able to consult with a health practitioner as it’s important to find out the cause of this issue.

Hi,
I really like your advices.
Can I ask you where did you study, who was your teacher?
Hi Alexandra, thanks and I’m glad you liked my video!

Kalau saya pake shoulderest suka melorot saja, gimana ya solusinya, trimakasih.
Hi Dede, it sounds like you need a teacher to guide you. Best of luck!
