  • Good lord this took longer than I was hoping, but the house is finally fully framed, and is being roofed as we speak. It really took a lot of work and head scratching to get to this point. I ran into so many little problems, that I could've done a full video on just those.

    Great videos. Interested to hear more about the process of hiring subs and contracts with them. Chronological order of the subs and what they were tasked to do.

      Thanks. It's getting there. If I can peel myself away from the house for a day, I'll be doing another video on the progress, and one for those conduits. Thanks for the sub by the way.

      Already working on em. Footage is a mess, so it's gonna take some time to edit, but they're coming.

    What an impressive home 🏡👏
    Cam you show how you ended up doing the glazed gable end in the truss?
    Cheers Rick

      I don't think I got much video of them going in, but what I used we're replacement style vinyl windows. These get screws directly through a channel in the window frame into the timber. There's no flashing on the outside face, so this wouldn't be a good ootion for a window that would see direct rain. What is usually done, is the window flange goes on the face of the timber, flashing tape goes an, the a trim board goes over that. The close proximity of the plates to the window wouldn't allow for that here. Next time though, I'll plan that part better.

    Awesome build! What’s the ceiling height with the top of the trusses?

    Really cool! What’s the ceiling height at the top of the trusses?

      It's about 25 feet. Thank God everything up there is LED, cause changing bulbs would suck!

    You could possibly create a column on the other side of your LVL instead of doubling up your wall.

      That thought crossed my mind at the time, and looking back, I wish I had gone that route. I can always change it up later if it bugs us that bad though.

    Why did you have to "Clean" the trusses? What was on them? Just general dirt?

    • @PetryfiedWoodworks
      @PetryfiedWoodworks  4 года назад +2

      For the most part dirt. But there were a few spots where the blocking i used to stack them cause some milder to form.

    where did you get the hard wear for the trusses?

    • @PetryfiedWoodworks
      @PetryfiedWoodworks  5 лет назад +1

      The nuts and bolts, all 800lbs of em, came from bolt depot. The plates were fabricated by S&M Welding in Elk City, OK, and GTZ Powdercaoting did the finish work.

      did you have a mock up design that you sent them or did the engineer have all the details for you to give them on the fabrication? I'm also dying to know what Texas timber frame quoted for all that work.I understand you not sharing FYI. I'm in a similar situation now but I'm in Colorado and finalizing my plans to build hopefully next year.

      Yeah, it was pricey. As far as the design goes, I did the design and made tweaks to it as I gained more knowledge. I used SketchUp to model them and exported the plates to a DXF file that the steel fabricators software could read. I basically winged it and built it all a bit more robust than it needed to be.
